Simple poi tricks do exist, and I'll show you some of my favorites! Poi has a reputation for being hard, and with good reason. Get your foot in the door to add flow to your life by learning these basic poi moves that will be friendly to any beginner, so you can gain the confidence to learn and spin at your own pace!

Good list. I think arm wraps should be here, too- they're easy to pick up, versatile (good transition), and have a lot of variety (arms, legs in different directions). Anytime someone wants to try my poi, that's the first move I teach: first arm wraps, then the same thing with a lifted leg, then dancing around with both.

I bought some poi sometime last year because it looked cool. I didn't use them much because I have a tendency to get into hobbies and then drop them due to getting distracted by other things, but I would like to eventually learn some tricks. I kind of know how to do reels, but that's about it and I hit myself super often. It is kind of fun to sometimes just swing them around though. My poi are pretty soft, so it's not painful to hit myself with them.

We all start somewhere and goodness but I was the same way with hobbies before I started spinning poi. If you're interested in learning more, I have tons of tutorials on my channel!

I was in your situation, what made it stick was making it part of my routine. After dinner I would usually listen to music and sit in bed so I started spinning instead. I really focused on learning the basics of a lot of moves and then switching to using my little knowledge to just spin. Super sloppy but it got more and more comfortable every day

I'm actually teaching a class via livestream that goes over transitions for flowers and pendulums. They're all recorded, so you can either join us for the classes as they're streamed or watch at your own pace: www.crowdcast.io/c/poi-flowers-dance

Pendulums are really cool to do but it takes time learning how much energy to take out or to put in. Butterflies are so easy to do now but doesn't translate to hoop that well. They call butterfly with hoops behind your back vs doing it out I front of you. Reals are really good to learn and it is so easy once you get the footwork for that it comes naturally when you put in the work. Tic tacs came so easy for me bc I learned how to do them with hoops first. I so have to practice antispin flowers. It seems so much harder than it looks when you do antispin flowers. One poi trick that I thought was simple is shotguns or reverse butterfly.
