5 Simple Periodically Reversing Gearboxes
Ғылым және технология
Hi,
this is a video about mechanisms, that periodically reverses the output-direction. I just noticed, that is actually the longest video I made, so the music could get annoying :)
Enjoy watching anyways,

These are great mechanisms. Just wanna point out that these are oscillating mechanisms. "Continuously reversing" suggests the output only moves in the opposite direction as the input.

The second one is reciprocating too.
I like to imagine all of these little mechanisms are 'gearing' up for one huge contraption

@@robert.cbaker5764 bruh wtf?
I was trying to build a mech leg spider and the first type of gearbox really helped me with the movement of the legs
I have not touched Lego for almost 10 years but for some reason I still watch videos like this :)
I can see that last one being useful for a GBC mechanism that doesn't need to lock, but _does_ need "dead" time at each end of its travel to let balls roll on and off (probably 30, the standard maximum, to maintain a rate of 1bps or so).
Good concept, interesting to see what can be done with some gears 👏
These builds are great! Though, I would definitely like to suggest that you back the camera up and give yourself a little more frame room in future videos. It's tough watching you fumble over everything to get it in frame!

Yep, the stuff of #3 is really crammed in that space
What a beautiful idea.
Thanks a lot!! Helped me on this MOC ive been building, I havent been building with gears for a while so forgot everything -.- but thanks
A little bit of ingenuity and #3 would be a interesting clock design
Oscillating or SImple Harmonic Motion (SHM) mechanisms.
You can do #3 with a switch, and make it a lot simpler.

Yep, the simple reason I didn't use a switch was that I lent both of my switches to a friend :) But I just wanted to give ideas anyways, so it didn't matter that much

@@x35gaming Yep, but I think it would still work
I love these!
the third one reminds me of the early day power functions. You can connect two of these little square motors with one wire and the other one will turn when you turn one. That was back when the lego computer thing was still called the RCX.

You meant vintage motors

That trick works with NXT 2.0 motors too
you're doing great😀
I'm planning a model train layout and that last one would be great for a moving gantry,
Really cool!
This feels like it solves everything but I can't think of a practical use for it
the last one was exactly like my idea, using the power to change gears :DD
Very cool!
Good spot on the music.
This rocks yo

yo would you be able to make lego hands? like exo suit hands? just an idea. love ur vids
Fun fact: 5th actually consists of 2 constantly reversing mechanisms
Can someone explain what these are used for?
Sei un genio!!!!
They could be used for steam trains I guess
Good!!!!
You can simplify the RC method by just making the M motor flip the lever that is powering it
@in1
2 жыл бұрын
When the lever is in the middle, it doesn't give any signal to the motor, so it stops... But by adding a rubber band mechanism it could work
You don’t need to use a remote controller and receiver for that one, there is a lego power functions switch which does that and even has an axle hole running through the lever. It has a port on it to plug in a motor and a wire to connect to the battery, no need for the big bulky pieces
@in1

Yep, I chose a remote control because it's more common, but that's totally right
so coooool its elegle
Very good Ideas, but in Nr4 I would have rather used the switch. Would be much cheaper.
4:02 look at the big gear, it matches the fps and looks like the teeth aren't spinning at all!

Woah.
Not really sure what the reversing part of these are, they're more like oscillating than reversing, still cool tho.
Last one looks like what a bread dough mixer does.
Please 5 gearbox with reverse gear
The first 1 one looks like train valve gear and the second one is piston rod
what about bionicle gearboxes?
4:04 i think the 40 tooth gear glitched. The teeth arent moving.
can you make a person an a bike with that?
İ LOVE YOU
No.5 looks very similar to an automatic transmission in a vehicle
Looks like a spin electronics h bridge I made in circuit sandbox
First one can he used as a food whipping machine
3 could be useful for when ur lazy to turn on the switches by rotating them
earned sub from me
Hey, these are all great ideas, but instead of building as fast as possible could you build slowly and then speed up the video? Should be much more fluid that way.

great video but i think these are mechanical oscillators
Video content was good, but some of the sped up video was visually jarring - I think because of autofocus. Try locking your focus / focusing manually.

You should try ditching the time-lapse-style video and cut the clips up instead IMO, it's really unpleasant to watch.

The thing is that I have things to do other than Lego and I also want to keep that you can build it yourself when watching the video in 0.5x speed... Thanks for the feedback, though!
