I’ve been doing SSB squats wrong, I had no idea I’m suppose to pull the handles down. I needed this.

The standard Yokebar safety squat has tremendously improved my posture. It works great for seated calf raises. Elevate the forefoot to get as close as possible to the ROM coming out of the hole at the bottom of a squat.

Unscrew the handles for the front squat and it become a bit easier to get in and out of depending on how big you are.

I tried that but I found it easier to manipulate the bar positioning after I got over 300ish lbs with the handles still on.

Another trick is turning the bar or pad upside down. It completely changes the camber angle and the stress it puts on the upper back during squats. I have had this bar for 6 years and absolutely love it. Go get this bar now!

I can zercher squat with my bar upsidedown because my handles are not removable,i cant bench but i can overhead press and squat Lange if i have the angle of the foams outside the only thing recurring is thambless grip on the overhead press because the bar will go a bit moving front back but if you hold very tight you can steel do it even with foul grip💪

I would say first of all lots of grip work, good mornings or some sort of back extension (especially for GI bjj where you have to resist being pulled or extending away from someones guard), lots of neck strengthening, and they don't talk about it but olympic lifts are supposed to be better for athleticism and explosiveness

Sam has really mastered maintaining the best arm angling while on camera Also, few favorite yoke bar variations for me: Unilateral work - the hands free part means I can grab the rack for balance and push further in something like a split squat Leg burn out work - Sometimes I like actually pushing the handles up for high rep sets. Often times my back is giving out first after frying it from all the standard variations and I dont have any leg machines to supplement with. So doing it the "easy" way means I can really pump my legs at the end of a workout. Goodmornings - pretty self explanatory, especially on this channel lol. I like doing them to pins to keep from cheating.

I have been using it exclusively for years now for squats due to having shoulder issues. Wish I had one 30 years ago would have saved my shoulder wear and tear tremendously. Figured most of these "secrets" out in my own through trial and error. The Zercher squat with it is awesome and way, way better than holding the bar the traditional way which is very painful, even with a pad. Plus the squeeze produces an isometric contraction of many muscles.. The front squat variation is ok but feels like your airway is going to get cut off.

Why not do both? Sometimes I purposely push the handles up because I feel like it loads my quads more. it’s more comfortable than doing front squats, and I can still hammer my quads.

I've used one a few times over the years but, just regular squatting. Glad I saw this video because as you said earlier, I'm on a budget and hate buying equipment that I can only use for one or two exercises.

Well timed video. I got my SSB last year and noticed immediately that it was a different beast. I use my SSB bar for my second back squat movement of the week (bench squat, since I don't have a box), but have been thinking about adding a front squat into the routine as a second squat on my second leg of the week. I tried them last week with the straight bar but couldn't get comfortable with it. Tried Zercher squats with the same bar but found I couldn't get my elbows out of the way to I couldn't get all the way down. Perhaps the SSB will help with that.

front squats with the ssb are silly, you want the weight in front of you to hit the quads better. Also, PRs performance suggests not pulling the handles down too hard because in the bottom it will pitch the camber down to the ground. You want the camber to put the weight in front of you to hit the quads harder, so its a balance of pushing and pulling to keep the camber in the same position, in front of you.

3:20 I see people all the time putting the SSB backwards in the rack this way, but never for this reason. They squat with the bar backwards because they were never told it’s backwards - and how can you blame ‘em? Lots of SSB experts out there but no one showing the people new to it the basics. Tl;dr If you’re gonna use the SSB for a regular back squat (not for front squat), don’t make the mistake of putting it in the rack this way. Happens all the time.
