Missed a few videos as someone broke into my apt and stole my gaming PC so I can no longer do videos like I was unfortunately..... sucks cuz ppl think I have $$ because I had a Supra and now have a Tesla... I saved for 10 years to be able to buy my Supra... I should have kept it traded it in towards this POS tesla and got nothing for it literally 1/6 of what I paid it was BS!!

    Scotty Kilmer I have a 2006 Ford Freestyle with a CVT transmission failure. I have had very disappointing results in prices for the repair. The dealership quoted me a price upwards of $6000.00 for a rebuilt transmission. I was quoted $1800.00-$3000.00 help.

    That's ok. Teslas can be hard to come by because of the line up. If you want certain options you have to wait because demand for what they have exceeds capacity to deliver. So much so, that they had to build a 2nd Model 3 assembly line in the parking lot, which they did. The reasons are simple if you follow the technology even a little. Teslas autopilot is without peer and will only get better. Space Ex is launching a thousand point satellite system that will deliver high speed internet to the cars, using the existing and developing charging network as gateways. Tesla's battery perform better in every regard and they are going down in price as they ramp up production. Another Giga factory is on the way.

    As a former Tesla owner I really hope that you guys see these comments and keep it up towards the top so others see. I owned one for almost 2 years, and I was a ridiculous over-the-top fanboy for 4 years before that. And I’m here to tell you right now Scotty is right about most of the stuff he says about Tesla. I sold mine for every reason he said, and then more. First and foremost let me say that the idea in a perfect world is absolutely better than gas, and certainly better than hydrogen, which will never take off and be a success. Forget hydrogen, but also we have some work to do with electric cars. Being active in many Tesla groups on forums and on Facebook, the value PLUMMETING is absolutely true. The more expensive P100D’s will hold their value more than the others.... until something replaces it. Which is why people spend $120,000+ on a P90D to be sold 3 years later for $60,000. I had a P85 and I took a massive hit when I took it to traded it in. I also had a very hard time selling a private party. What he says about the door handles is absolutely correct because I have had a few of them replaced on mine and I know many others who have had many replaced also. I know a guy who has had five door handles fail. It’s no secret. Owners know about them, and even if it does fail it’s not the biggest deal in the world because many of them are under warranty and nobody really flips out about it. But out of warranty it’s $980. Tesla even knows they’re not reliable because their model X and model 3 does not have these door handles. BET ME the new design Model S (whenever it is) will not have these pop out door handles. The charging dilemma couldn’t be more accurate, especially where Tesla’s are more popular. It was posted almost every 4-5 days someone would share there is a serious backup on the superchargers. I have experienced this myself. I was constantly at the Bolingbrook Illinois supercharger and many times during the day, there would be a weight of 15 to 20 minutes of two cars because eight stalls were being used. So in words 2 Teslas would be waiting 15-20 minutes for one of the 8 superchargers to open. In California, some parts of NY, and some parts of Florida its even worse. Many times I recall it being so bad that Tesla actually sent out an employee to manage that supercharger and limit how long they can be sitting there charging because there was a line of NINE TESLAS simply WAITING to supercharge... However I do need to mention it should be known that the supercharger stations there will be more of them overtime. But if I had to deal with that today absolutely not and I don’t blame anybody else. Maybe one day in 10 years you’ll ever have to fight or wait long because the batteries range will be even bigger and the charge time will be less it would be the equivalent of going to a gas station that you know today. But it’s nowhere near there yet, and the supercharger times that Tesla claims are a lie. To charge from 0 to 90% takes me about 50 (fifty) minutes. However I do need to mention it should be known that the supercharger stations there will be more of them overtime. But if I had to deal with that today, absolutely not and I don’t blame anybody else for not wanting to either. Yes it is better on the bigger battery packs like the 100, but those are absurdly expensive and we’re out of my budget. Yes the quality is also not the greatest. The quality of mine was actually pretty good and I couldn’t complain but I have seen many others that were flat out terrible, and I know of many stories throughout the different groups where owners have refused delivery of all three Model S, X, & 3 because they had such poor quality. This would’ve been a good time for Scotty to mention the parts shortage. I have waited five or six months for parts before that would normally be a week or two out from another manufacture. If you don’t believe me, just join the Tesla groups on Facebook and read up on every post. Read the comments too. You’ll hear many stories of what looks like a minor fender bender, actually costs $20,000 and the guy waited six months for parts just to get it fixed. It’s only gotten worse since. And I’ve heard that story over and over from different people and this is what scared me the most about my car. During the time I’ve owned it I thought it would be better, turns out it hasn’t and I’ve experienced a few things waiting for parts myself. Luckily it wasn’t an emergency, but I can only imagine if it was. Would’ve been paying for a car that I couldn’t drive and I couldn’t have that. I get it if you were a rich person. I get it if you love speed and acceleration. There’s nothing that will match a Tesla. But to me for right now this car is the type of car that is okay to own IF you own something else next to it. So if your Tesla does need repairs, you’ll just take the Porsche to work and its not a big deal to you. As far as road tripping a Tesla, I got lucky. But if I lived in California or some of more populated Tesla areas, I would’ve been screwed. So that’s one of many reasons why I dipped out quick. One of my straws was my horrible winter experience. What he mentioned about the range is absolutely true. The range of/30% immediately in cold climates. Yes it would be better if you had a garage and or preheated the car. But you better have something higher than a 110 outlet because trust me it’s not good day today unless you live in a warm climate and drive less than 25 miles a day. Trust me, that was my primary charging source was a 110 outlet. When it gets cold, the car always had a tendency to freeze up the door and the charge port. Teslas have a frameless window, so if the window is stuck, so was the door. There of times I’ve had to do desperate things to get my door on stock and also risk pouring washer fluid on my charge port. Just to get everything unstuck. Also the electronic parking brakes have stuck on me a couple of times. Another last straw with the car was the new firmware. It is very distracting and unsafe. Tesla change the whole way out of the car and I couldn’t stand it. I told Tesla I couldn’t take it another minute and nothing got done. The absolute straw was on a normal Midwest winter snowing day I was driving. Not crazy, just normal. With normal fresh snow on the ground too. The snow managed to pull off both wheel liners upfront, and break the plastic rocker panels on bottom. Behind those wheel liners, there is essentially what I call a tunnel where there are coolant and high-voltage lines and some other electrical gizmos there as well. So it rammed over a foot of snow over all of that. This was a 2 1/2 week repair, and they were waiting for parts so they had to improvise. During those two weeks I had a gas car, I remembered how nice it was to gas up for five minutes and have a 400+ mile range. So when I got my tesla back it wasn’t special to me anymore and that’s why I had no problem selling it that day. Believe me I was a total geek over this car I loved it to death. You couldn’t tell me anything to not love it until I experienced it all myself and listen closely to others. These cars are very expensive, they do not hold their value, I wouldn’t bet on their reliability or I certainly wouldn’t roll the dice, it’s going to be expensive to repair, and we need a bigger charging infrastructure. Especially in a more popular Tesla area. This is coming from someone who had nearly 8000 subscribers and over 80 Tesla videos on their channel. Trust me I raved enough about it. But everything kept backfiring left and right and people we’re looking at me because of it. It got to be too much which is why I abandoned this channel and took all of my videos down. It was like a bad break up. I can’t recommend these cars to other people knowing how many issues I’ve had and how many others had the same issues. If you value your money, you’ll buy something a lot cheaper that’s more reliable. I wish I would be able to transplant my data from my brain to yours, so that way you can see it and get it out of your system. Tesla is not quite there yet and I’m sure one day it will be. But as long as rich rebuilds keeps uploading the type of videos that he uploads, where he has waited two months for his Model X with constant disappointment, hard pass. Since I have posted this several months ago, I’ve had a lot of people criticizing it. It’s fine you’re welcome to your own opinion, but let’s be very clear Scotty doesn’t know me from a hole in the wall and he did not pay me to say this. This was also not copy and paste it. This was the first time I ever opened up about my bad experience. I didn’t even do it online on forums or Facebook groups or even on my own KZread channel because I knew that the negative criticism would’ve been in sane. I’ve already had a lot of personal attacks from Tesla owners, they are some really arrogant people. I still feel the same way I do about Tesla. It is a cool fast car don’t get me wrong. But you better have a lot of money in your bank account enough to not ever care about your spending before you should consider an even faster one. Some comments were referring to the recent release of the $37,000 Model 3... sure it’s going to cost less and you’re not gonna be in as much of a hole as you would with something that’s more money from Tesla, but you’re still going to have a lot of the problems I mentioned earlier with the charging, winter problems, and quality problems. If you need to really redo your budget to be able to barely swing financing this car for 60 months, don’t do it. Don’t buy this car unless you’re super filthy rich and can pay it off in cash. Please.

    I suppose it depends where you live. In the UK, winters are mild so cold range reduction is minimal. Electric supply at home is 240v so full charge over night no problem. Super chargers are rarely busy and there are enough around everywhere I go. Its a small place so no need to go more than a few hundred miles in one go. Model 3 isn't here yet so maybe helps with how busy superchargers are. Mine hasn't gone wrong yet fortunately and Tesla service has been fine. Fit and finish is fine but its no Lexus. Fingers crossed I don't bend it because I'm sure parts supply here won't be great. I might change my mind after a few hundred thousand miles but ok so far. Only thing I don't like apart from the purchase price is that its too big for my tastes on our narrow roads. A guy in Toronto parked his Tesla at the airport with 60% charge, went away on a two week holiday, and when he came back the car battery was so dead he couldn't open the doors. The charge port door won't even open when the battery is dead and it wasn't cold out. In cold and hot weather the battery has to supply A/C or heat and it takes a lot of electricity to provide heat.

Tesla is the first successful American car company in over 50 years. They're growing exponentially. I've owned about 30 cars in my life. The last 3 were electric. The Nissan Leaf was okay. Bought it used, sold it used for the same price. Never needed anything as far as repairs or maintenance. The two current cars we own are Teslas. They are amazing. Trust me, your gonna want this tech in your Ford and Toyota. Fast as hell, very little maintenance and we haven't given money to Saudi Arabia for years. Plus we're not spewing poison gas for kids to breath. Please get on the right side of history!

    @@gearbox1858 There is nuclear, wind, water, and solar (& eventually probably fusion). Not every electric company is solely relying on coal or natural gas. It's also easier for these to build systems to limit pollution than it is for car manufacturers to limit pollution from the tail pipe, especially since that is highly dependent on the condition/state of the vehicle, how well it's maintained or not, etc. Far more variables and less control over same. Core point being, if there were no ICE vehicles on the road, and only electric, there would be far less pollution. Especially so if stricter standards are applied to the fossil fuel burning power plants. If I had the money to buy a more expensive electric car (not all are that expensive, but the longer range ones are), I would also probably invest in a Solar charging system as a separate unit from home electric, so that I had the option to use solar to charge, especially in the more direct sunlight seasons (mid spring to mid fall). It's less practical though for those that live in the far northern (or southern if you're in New Zealand) latitudes.

    First time I've seen a video from scotty where i totally disagree. 1. Teslas hold their value extremely well among luxury vehicles. 2. The nissan leaf sucks. They are cheap cuz they don't have any cooling system and as a result are constantly over heating. especially after and during charging. 3. Teslas are the most efficient and have the longest range of the mass produced cars so who cares if they are big? 4. It wasn't in the parking lot. It was a tent they set up outside a loading dock and they used it for painting... 5. The 240 v chargers usually take over 6 hours to charge your battery depending on the percent it has when it's plugged in. Most people use them for over night at home. They are not super chargers which is what he showed a picture of. A super charger is 400v and will charge your battery in 1-2 hours... Only things i agree with him on is the whole dealer repair thing but that will come with time. It's just people now a days don't know how to fix them yet. It's not a deal breaker for me though cuz I always take my car to the dealer anyways. I'd rather have an expert on my car than someone who knows a little about every car.

  • @HenriZwols

    Two remarks: 2) it doesn't suck for everybody. The problem with cooling only arises when rapid charging. For someone who doesn't have to rapid change often, the Leaf will do fine. 3) The Tesla model 3 is much, much more efficient than the model X, because it's smaller. The guy has a point about size. Too bad he blatantly ignores the model 3.

If you were a mechanic you wouldn't buy something like that unless you had so much money to blow you wouldnt miss it. There is such a thing as over engineering I see it all the time as a mechanic. Scotty, I've been watching you since your days at KHOU, lots of respect. I wouldn't be a friend if I didn't tell you when you were wrong. The problem here is that you are mixing up some facts, expressing some opinions as if they were objective analysis of facts and telling some half-truths. Unfortunately this comment area isn't the proper form to debate. Also, this IS your channel and you have the right to publish what you want, but many consider you an automotive authority and trust what you say is accurate. Please do a little better research and publish an update. For example, the cars built in the tent was the Model 3. But the issue you provided as an example of resulting poor build quality was door problems with the Model X. Problems which were resolved (both for already sold vehicles and one being newly produced) long before the "tent" Model 3 production facilities were ever erected. The other thing you failed to mention is that, currently, all Tesla models have the longest range of any mass produced electric passenger car/XUV, regardless of size or weight. Lastly, Supercharger stations operate at 480 volts (level 3 charging), not 240 volts (level 2, like at one's home). There are nearly 450 Supercharger stations across the United States, one very near your home on I-10. They will charge to 50% capacity in 20 minutes.

  • @tomk3732

    No supercharger stations operate at 380-480 volts AC and output up to 410 VDC. Latest supercharger standard from EU shows 1000 VDC max output at a whopping 500 amps. Poor quality of Tesla is legendary - so much so they are one of the worst brands in US and none of their models are recommended by consumer reports. Records for maintenance of model S taxicab are scary.

    The biggest problem with electric cars in the USA is the fact gasoline is so cheap. Take Europe for example, gasoline easily costs more then double what it does in the USA, so those electric scooters are considerably more popular. • @justinw1765

    @justinw1765

    True, but one of the major draws with electric, at least well built ones, is that there is very little maintenance besides tires, brakes, etc. Brushless electric motors are very simple, few moving parts, and as "engines" are far superior to ICE for long term reliability. Eventually battery and super capacitor tech will improve enough to make long range, quick charge viable and not a super expensive and super heavy option. But I agree with Scotty, go with a lighter and smaller one. And if you're a two car household like many are, have one electric and one ICE so that you can have the best of both worlds until those improvements above come in. I'm hoping that the Sondor's Model electric car actually gets made. Supposedly will retail for around 10, 000 for the base model. I'm not saying that it's perfect and without potential issues. I would prefer a 4 wheel vehicle all in all for one, but for driving around town and occasional longer trips in most conditions, it would be fine.
