I had the longest hair in high school, I remember dreaming of the day my hair would be long and luscious in middle school, finally after years of growing my hair looked like a long curly beautiful head of hair, definitely a topic of conversation for everyone in school at the time, but also I got a lot of hate. I would get hate mail on social media and guys trying to pick fights with me. I wore band shirts and was heavy into music. My hair was well maintained and had huge natural perfect curls that girls envied. Girls would play with my hair and I got a lot of attention and notoriety for it. I was also very insecure about it. Because more often then not main stream didn’t see it as a male thing to do. Adults made fun of me, jocks and popular kids hated me. I cut it off one day because I just wanted to fit in. I donated it all to locks of love. Not a day goes by where I wished I never did that because it was part of my identity for so long. I’ve tried growing it out many times again but my hair doesn’t grow as fast as it once did. I’m trying it again now and it looks bad lol I have a very steady career and it’s not easy going through the first phases of long hair at a professional setting, my hair is thick and curly so it looks like an Afro almost at first. Anyways moral of the story don’t care what others think, it looks awesome. I wore band shirts and had long hair and I was made fun of nowadays you can get an overpriced band shirt that kids never actually listen to at forever 21 and urban outfitters and every dude has a man bun wtf I don’t understand the world.

Hopefully it will lessen the amount of time stuck in the “awkward phase”. Are you working from home right now? Maybe this is the time to pursue it while you’re not in an office setting. Love the story and moral! Everyone has opinions. Be true to you!

This is a true story: I grew up in Eastern Europe in the 90's and since then I always wanted long hair. Society was still rigid back then. Schools didn't allow it, most parents either. But eventually reached 31 years old, growing my hair (it covers my face entirely, I think I am 7 months). My wife was just complimenting it and I just realized how much I waited for this to happen. Unfortunately it started to gray and receid at the forehead . I am sure given the chance years ago to grow it, it would have looked great. But today there s not as much stigma around it, basically on one cares enough to give you a bad time. So grow your hair guys

I unconsciously started growing my hair out in October 2018 and looking back on the ‘awkward stage’ of spring 2019 I don’t think it looked too bad. So if you are growing your hair out and are thinking it is out of whack, just remember that we can be our own worst critic.

Trav! I've watched 3 of your videos. The way you can see that you love your character off the screen in a genuine and positive way; really brings a comforting environment around your content. I literally started putting my hair half up and half down 2 days ago. It's all a little strange to me. But I've always hated haircuts. Had my fringe long once; in that emo kind of phase. But this is the first time having the whole thing long. I even have a braid in the down half on my back left side. And a braid running from the front right side into the tail. And right at the beginning of that top braid, I have a little bit flicked out that is shorter. So where the flick starts going down my face, the braid starts going into my tail. Thought it would be cool. I'm glad I can find some guys confident in who they are to look how they want. Really benefitted from this. Thank you! From Australia, Far North QLD.

Thanks for reassuring me about hair health! I realise now it's not too with age but long term damage to the hair folicles that causes thinness and balding! I'm now on a mission to feed my hair scalp so it can come back to life cheers!

guess I have to agree ever since I've grown out my hair which I've had long hair on and off for years now but since I've regrown it long and I plan on keeping it long for a very long time it's as to when I was going back and forth I've gotten stopped in the street or when I'm in shops and it's always positive!

You know, I really liked about your video. It made me more comfortable because I was anxieted because of the length of my hair, and how it covers *in some situations* my eyes and I realized that my eye is going crossed. So I started wearing headbands and sometimes ponytails, my eyes now are good but the confidence is down. Right now I watched this video and felt very comfortable because I don't get much compliments *just the part of russian cold culture not giving compliments (Thank God except for family)* and sometimes just think for what am I doing it, but you gave me back that confidence and happiness because I like how I look (for many years I did not) and last 2 years when I was growing hair I had some of the best moments of my life. Anyway thank you. Sorry if you didn't understood much of what I just typed because I'm from Ukraine and I'm learning English and again huge thanks

After getting through the awkward growth stages, long hair is LESS maintenance for me! The weight and volume tends to relax over time. I have more control over styling my hair instead of less control 😂

It is literally all you have to do is comb it and wash it and it usually looks good. Compared to short hair you have to wash every single day and spend 200$ once a month to get the newest fashionable style that you have to comb just the right way and ad gel to etc.

Interestingly when thy talked about centuries ago , thy would be called 'Barbarians' by Roman standards , as Romans were culturally strict on short hair & clean shaved, so non romans were just referred to as Barbarian AKA hairy ppl, which came from the word 'Barba' in Latin meaning beard.
