5 Reasons NOT to move to NOVA SCOTIA!!
With so many people leaving other parts of Canada and moving to Nova Scotia, I thought it would be helpful for anyone thinking about moving here to know there are things to consider before relocating.

Very good information here but I also believe the bug and winter cons really depends where you live in the province. We live in the south and bugs aren't all much difference then living in Ontario and the winters were much better. We only had about 3 weeks of actual snow on the grown this year and it was similar last year. Freezing rain on the other hand is much worse here then in Ontario. Keep up the good work.
I recently moved back to Nova Scotia from the States and I agree 💯 with everything you mentioned. But I LOVE this Province, it's the most beautiful place on the East Coast. 🥰

Haha sprinter, I’m going use that one. Thanks for your comment!
I lived in TO for 15 years and definitely prefer winters in NS. Next to BC this is the mildest province and the snow generally melts a day or two after a storm. The air smells amazing during a melt and it often doesn’t snow until Xmas. As for summers I disliked many days in TO- too hot and humid, whereas outdoors is enjoyable in NS from June-Dec. Jan-May can be tough. Black flies last a few weeks, although I don’t have many where I live, not that I’ve ever been bothered by them. We were taught as kids not to swat at them because they detect panic making you a target. Buddy should take that into consideration. And don’t wear black. They like that too. Costco doesn’t exist in rural communities although you can order online if you need to be buying things. NS has more doctors and specialists per person than any other province. 10% don’t have GPs. In AB and ON it’s 12%, BC it’s 15%, and it’s 25% in QC. Getting a doctor in rural communities anywhere in Canada is a challenge. Taxes in NS are high, the cost of living in a have not province.
NS is hardly England but it has the mildest weather in the country (sharing a plant zone with SW Ontario). Yet, the ocean is dangerous, storms can be wild, and winter is messy. That’s Nova Scotia. As for the bugs, they are what make us Canadians! Lol Taxes? Yes, Very High, the reality of being a have not province. And the weather? Nova Scotia has more of it, for sure, but the heat and humidity of an Ontario summer isn’t always pleasant.

Well I have to say those five were spot on However; moved here from Vancouver Island last year and hears a few more to add. Have 135 acres and was expecting to be in the woods a lot. Ticks make that a no go.... lived on the island for 27yrs, in the woods all the time seen about 4 ticks...Muggiest most uncomfortable summer since growing up in Ontario. Windiest place on Earth it seams. Bloody Hurricanes, had $100,000 in damages, boy what a night to remember...Porcupines ... Dogs can't go into the woods either..3 porcupine incidents at $500-1000 bucks a piece...If you can live with a tick epidemic (Seriously super bad) and the fear of lime disease daily when temps are above 4c, keeping your dogs inside all the time and 100k winds and Hurricanes plus the other stuff then it's a great place to live..if your a city dweller I can see it being less of a problem but if your looking for country relaxation it may not be for you...just saying

@@LifeinNovaScotia Ticks are most populous in the South Shore and Annapolis Valley regions. They are also frequently found in Halifax and the surrounding areas. Researchers collecting and sampling black-legged ticks found that in Nova Scotia, 30 to 50 per cent of them carry Lyme disease.Jun 1, 2022 (worst for Lyme disease: NS, Southern Ontario and Southern Quebec)
The things you list are 5 Reasons Not to Move to "Rural" Nova Scotia. Living rurally vs city are two different experiences. I live in Halifax, Nova Scotia and when living right in the city, black flies and mosquitoes aren't a problem. As far as shopping, I have easy access to products. And doctors are readily available at walk-in clinics in most neighborhoods even when you don't have a family doctor. I agree that spring arrives a month later in NS than in Ontario but Halifax winters are milder than most places in Ontario and Canada for that matter. (I get regular weather reports from family in Toronto, Ottawa and chilly Sudbury). We get a lot of rain in winter in Halifax while other parts of the province are getting snow. You're absolutely right that the taxes you pay in Nova Scotia are outrageous. I certainly agree with that one! :) Hope you really enjoy your time in NS! Take care.
