I moved to Canada for two months now , I came from a third world country , and I truly regret my move ! my quality of life took a nose dive ! there are no jobs at all not even part time low tire jobs ! no Healthcare , I got through many discrimination ! super overpriced and scammers everywhere !

Scammers? What? People move without understanding the realities of life there. It takes hard work to get ahead, usually takes at least 2 years or so to recoup your investment of moving there, so it is a long-term play. If you have a decent situation in your own country (despite it potentially being "less developed") it will not be worth the move. You need to be passionate about moving to Canada and willing to put in hard work, long-term.

Hi Anastasia and Anna, I just came across your channel recently and find it very interesting, and wanted to share my experience. I moved on my own to Vancouver from London in 1995. It was the hardest and craziest thing I done in my life. I applied for a PR visa when I lived in London and qualified on the points system. I had no contacts , no job, no where to stay (except for some temporary accommodation I found in a Canadian news paper) and a limited amount of savings. I am a software engineer but it took me over 6 months to find my first contract job, and in the meantime I worked as a window cleaner, power washing the Bentall Center in downtown Vancouver. After the 2nd year I became more established and got a permanent job, but I will never forget that experience. I guess it’s what you do when you are young and naïve😀. I think if I was starting out today and seen your video’s I may have had 2nd thoughts😁, but it’s good to be informed. I became a Canadian citizen in 1999 and then moved to the San Francisco Bay Area on a NAFTA visa and finally got sponsored by my employer for a Green Card and later took US citizenship. I still live in San Francisco Bay Area but to be honest I have never got over being homesick, but I know my memories of the UK are frozen in time. I have been back to the UK less than 5 times since I left, and the last time was over 11 years ago. My American wife and I plan to retire back in the UK some day (or possibly Canada). It's nice to have a choice.

Great video with graphics. I had an attempt to move in Canada. My case is high income and high demand, I am in IT delivery management position for last 6 years. Demand on Canadian IT market for seniors is not high now, at least it is the result of my personal research and tries. Salary grades in Canadian IT is not extremely higher than in EU, however cost of living is higher. Took decision to raise my income in Poland instead of stressful move to Canada. As the summary, without job offer which is 30% higher from the current one, no reason to get stressed and get use to Canadian winters.

One of your best videos, and they're all very good. Putting up real scenarios about not just coming to Canada, but the reasons why. These always have to be relative to your existing situation, and motivation. It takes genuine commitment. The high quality of life that Canada "can" offer, is not provided. Every part of it has to be hard earned, or your life will be far from quality.

Regret coming from Ukraine every single day. To say that my level of life dropped is to say nothing. I had 2 careers under my belt coming to Canada, good savings and I was coming fluent in English, so no language barrier. From being able to afford all possible kinds of beauty procedures, massages, hairstylists, my personal tailor, taking foreign language lessons as much as I wanted and being picky at the end of my working day when it comes to the restaurant I feel like visiting tonight I downgraded my life to being able to afford Tim Hortons and lumberjack outfits feeling like I’m something in the middle between a man and a woman (as it turned out, anything half decent and feminine looking is crazy expensive in Canada and I personally don’t feel ok paying 300-400 CAD for a linen summer dress, I’m sorry but it’s linen, not gold, and we are not at a fashion show, it’s just a mall in the outskirts of Calgary, ok?). Despite a common belief and a flashy sign “Canada is in top 10 economies in the world”, I doubt it after living here for almost a year now. It’s not stable, at all. Employers are flaky af, you can’t have any guarantee you will be employed tomorrow, even if you are highly qualified and your skills are in demand. At the moment Canadian economy is bleeding big time, it’s in an emergency room, if you will. I personally know many highly skilled Ukrainians who only manage to make ends meet here because they have a good salary from a Ukrainian company still working for it and quite often making more, than a regular Canadian person. Don’t want to sound negative, people are friendly and stuff for the most part, stunning nature, especially where I live close to Canadian Rockies, but is it worth after all? I would rather say no, than yes.

  • @MakeThatChange

Sounds like north american lifestyle and priorities are quite different from yours. Compared to Europe, people in Canada prefer spending money on comfort over fashion(it’s at least 10 years behind in fashion), hiking and travelling over expensive restaurants. And massages are covered by insurance. Hopefully as time passes and you gain more Canadian Experience you will start making more money to afford the type of lifestyle you want. Alternatively, if you feel regret coming to Canada, you can use it as a stepping stone and move elsewhere next - eg US. Just make sure to do proper research on the country of your choice👍🏻

I emigrated there from England in 1976 to join the Police (I was already in the police in England after I served in the UK military). I lived in Canada for over 40 years! I was not exactly in love with the country (although the summers in Southern Ontario are very nice) but going back to live in the UK was not a decision I wanted to make. I loved the fact that I could visit the USA and the Caribbean Islands much easier but once I retired did NOT wish to live in Canada any more.It was getting very expensive due to high taxes etc but it was the harsh winters that I got very tired of. I decided to retire here in Costa Blanca Spain when the weather AND the cost of living made it a NO brainier.

The moderate stories of people I met tried working two full time jobs night and day and house prices and inflation out grew his wages by orders of magnitude. The ones I talked with called BC the green hell, and even semi wealthy immigrants were now working two full time jobs night and day. Some contemplated suicide; egads Welcome to Canada! If you live outside of Canada and are considering moving to Canada: Don't. The federal government in place right now is making a comfortable life for the average person impossible. The cost of housing and the availability of housing makes rents and mortgages impossibly high. The price of groceries is skyrocketing on a daily basis. The federal government in Canada is imposing an ever-increasing "Carbon Tax" on farmers, truckers, and the driving public. It just does not stop. The Canadian dream now is to LEAVE Canada to where you can afford to live instead of feeding your hard-earned money to an insane, greedy federal government. Canada is now one of the most expensive countries in the world to live in.

My husband and I have 2 teenagers, and 1 of them is reaching university age soon. We hv to think ahead what’s the possible universities for the children and their future. We earn reasonably ok in Singapore but the possibility of our kids entering local university in Singapore is pretty slim, because of the high competition to get in. The nearest country would be Australia to study but that would mean we’ll be paying sky high foreign student fees of about $155k to $200k for a 3 year bachelor course and on top of that my husband and I will be living apart from the kids for years that they study and after they graduate, I’ve heard many students spending years trying to get a job there and can’t get it. On the long run, the kids are better studying in Canada because they’ll be under local student fee and my husband and I can be there with them and settle down coz I’m Canadian and I sponsored my husband to be a PR years ago.

You did an fantastic job here. Fact and figures, graphs, charts OMG you explain everything without any bias. Hats off ❤ Me and my wife moved here from Sri Lanka almost a year and a half ago. Both of us have five years of experience and Bachelor's degrees. My wife was a healthcare professional back in my country. She worked very hard to get Canadian credentials (it took more than six months) now she is preparing to take an exam to get a healthcare license to practice here. We noticed that lots of healthcare workers (doctors, nurses, pharmacists, radiation technologists etc.) work at Tim Horton, Walmart, or Uber because it is very hard to land a job in the same field that they were doing in past years. In the meantime, Canada suffers from a lack of healthcare professionals.

Before moving to Canada, it is good to target the industry. Please consider the nuclear industry. There are jobs there and expect a lot more jobs as Ontario plans to build 4 new Small Modular Reactors that will create thousands of job opportunities. Also, there is refurbishment of existing nuclear generating plants at Bruce Power and Darlington and very soon, Pickering. This will provide plenty of jobs. Ontario relies on nuclear power to provide around 60% of its electricity. You can come into the nuclear industry as an engineer (electrical, mechanical, civil, nuclear) or as a project manager. With all the new nuclear projects, project managers will be in hot demand. Start now to develop yourself to be well place to get jobs in the Canadian nuclear sector. The salary is very good too. Happy to help if you need more information.

This is a very sensible analysis that can truly help hot-headed people think before they act. A long-haunted idea of working and perhaps living abroad made me apply for colleges in Ontario early this year. However, this decision puzzled my Canadian friend as it seemed to him that I was going to voluntarily put myself into uncertainty from a stability I had been living with. My friend's question woke me up from a dream that showed no reason in my case. I gave up on my offer in the end and chose to take short-term language courses in Calgary in its lovely summertime, and returned to my country this August with cherished memory. I don't know if my heart will tell me to try turning over a new leaf in Canada again, but I am sure it will be more convincing because of better research and evaluation.

I think to give more or less right idea about what to expect in Canada it’s that you potentially have a really good, healthy, wealthy and fun life here, but it’s not easy to get there, just being a hard worker is not enough, you have to be a quick learner, be creative, and result oriented person, if this is about you, then moving to Canada might exactly what you needed, if it’s not about you, then it’s probably better to stay in a comfort zone of your home country

@MakeThatChange Thank you for the great video and the insightful graphs that provide ideas on how to make a decision. However, a high income can be a relative concept. Could you elaborate on why having a high income and being in a high-demand profession might still not be a good idea to move? I am skilled in IT (BI, SQL, data analysis, etc.) and I am doing quite well in my country. Still, I am considering moving to Canada to start a new chapter in my life. I am aware that in the first year or two, I may need to lower my quality of life, as finding the first job in Canada, even in the IT field, may require me to accept a position that is a bit lower than what I have here. But still - IT is in demand, and probably this will not change. Isn't it secure enough to say that my career should remain quite solid and progress slowly? Additionally, currently I'm working remotely so for the first months, I guess I could stay with my current job (despite of a different time zone...). I would appreciate your comments.

  • @MakeThatChange

    @MakeThatChange

If you have high income and an in demand profession - the biggest question is what is motivating you to want to leave your own country. Imagine you have the life you have now, but the country you live in is different. Has anything changed? The reality is that the first 5 years will be difficult, it may take longer than expected to find a job, which will make you depleted on your savings. With the cost of living and tax, you will have less disposable income too. The bottom line is if you’re prepared to potentially downgrade your lifestyle for the next 5 years and work hard to progress in your career and make high income, then It’s absolutely worth it. Think about it as an investment in stock market: it will be turbulent in short term, maybe even negative, but over long term it will pay off.

If i may suggest, Really do extensive research on the cost of living here in Canada. Watch videos, go on actual websites for food, rentals, insurance etc to do a proper budget and compare relative to the average to top percentile salary in your field. People underestimate just how expensive it is here, even for those in high earning industries like IT, finance, engineering, etc there is a good chance your drop in standard of living will be significant and for longer than you expect.

  • @labamba6643

@@tsybze So far, I have done some of the things you mentioned, and I am still doing them. This includes watching videos, even those in which someone walks around the store looking at products, and checking all the costs using sites like Numbeo. I compared one of the largest cities in Poland with Winnipeg, where I am considering moving. In general, it is stated that consumer prices in Winnipeg are around 30% higher, rent prices around 23% higher, and almost everything is around 20-40% more expensive. However, essential services like electricity, heating, cooling, water, and garbage are around 40% cheaper, and gasoline is also more affordable. The average monthly net salary in Winnipeg seems to be around 39% higher. This suggests that it should be quite possible to find a job that will compensate for the 30% higher cost of living. What worries me the most is that it might not be easy to secure that first job in Canada, and it may be something below my professional experience. Here, I need to conduct more research. I have attended some career-related webinars, and my plan is to network with people to gather more real examples and information. I also conducted an experiment recently and changed my location on a job portal to Winnipeg to see if I would receive any offers. I only received one, and it wasn't spectacular. However, this could be because I didn't specify that I have a Work Permit. In the end, the question of how possible it is to achieve a good enough balance between the first job and the overall cost of living in Canada for an IT professional like me remains unanswered.

Toronto is a financial capital of Canada, so there will be no shortage of work for you, especially if you approach your job search in a smart way. You first job will likely not pay you more than your current salary, but in a year or two, you will be able to move up and make more. It is best to start interviewing and applying for jobs a few months before your move. 20k saved up should provide you with a good cushion early on, but be prepared to spend a big chunk of it on accommodation. Finding a roommate will help spend less!

But I will recommend to my cousins Ali and Mohammed, who are in the kebab business, to stay where they are. Right?

Seems like all 3 of you fall into the category of people who don't feel comfortable or secure in your home country. Hence, you should definitely consider moving to Canada. All of you will need to work hard to reach comfortable level of income. You, being a doctor, will need to get your medical license in Canada. We also made a video exploring philosophical side of question "should you move to Canada", if you're interested: kzread.info/dash/bejne/ZpauuKWYXb3biJc.htmlsi=CiW3Qpi1IDbZpkDx

Low interest rates, particularly the ultra-low, "emergency" interest rates during the pandemic, combined with poor scaling of housing production ( ie not in proportion to increase in population ) over last 10 years have all created a gross distortion in the Canadian economy and social fabric of Canada (ie shrinking the middle class , creating a division between those who got into the real estate market early vs late). This cheap money / credit has particularly affected the distortion, by creating an incentive to take on huge debt/boosting bids (including new permanent residents taking on huge debt), multiple real estate investments (competitions to out-bid, out-shine, your neighbours, friends, boasts all around). Here in Canada , there should have been better foresight (learning from the US great recession 2007 to 2009) although there were differences; banks here have been able to give loans pretty risk free given the mortgage insurance provided to lenders by CHMC ie ultimately by the Canadian tax payer collectively shouldering the risk. As people have struggled to keep up with their mortgages, some of the cost has naturally been passed to the mortgage helpers, ie, tenants . Given the ridiculous housing costs (Combined also with other, non-housing sources of inflation,) more mortgage and non-mortgage holders alike have been resorting to food-banks to cover the difference. Currently it might make sense to re-think immigration targets, given that infrastructures (health system, emergency system, transport systems, housing "systems") haven't scaled. Canada does need immigration for help with new building (etc) but the catch-22 is that there has to be buildings to reasonably and respectfully house these builders (etc). Part of the reason for the earlier "plan" to boost immigration targets even higher (currently being revised) might have been the following : in the absence of significantly new building construction, keep immigration targets high thereby keeping demand high on existing housing, thereby maintaining equity levels in housing even despite increasing interest rates (ie to prevent sellers selling at a loss, or worst case to prevent fire-sells, to get a buyer). Ie to prevent a dreaded housing price collapse, engineer at worst a soft-landing. Of course, if the high cost of living in Canada becomes even worse, that will act as a disincentive, and immigration will adjust naturally as demand to come here goes down. However, this would take time for it depends on accurately communicating the situation in Canada to potential new-comers. Harshly speaking, demand to immigrate would also depend on whether coming to Canada is the lesser of two evils.

Do not move to Canada. You will regret it. There are so many immigrants coming in and not enough homes being built to catch up at all with the increasing population due to high immigration. Also, there is a lot of LGBT+ brainwashing being taught in the schools where they brainwash the children into being LGBT+ and opting out of the curriculum is not allowed and the teachers would even harass children or parents that speak up. Also, the government freezing peoples bank accounts and arresting as well as attacking protesters during the Freedom Convoy is an example of Canada being an authoritarian country. This place is not the paradise that people outside of Canada think of. Please beware.

Depends on your definition of “expensive” and how much you like to travel of course. 800$ for a domestic 4 hour flight expensive.
