    100% mate, his gibson g3 grabber bass tone honestly drives the whole album and is so well accompanied with Billy's guitar. Such a big sound. I'm so glad those were some of the first songs i learnt on bass.

    Good video and alot of work out into it. I just got a fender P bass and want to kinda get a Mike dirnt tone etc so I'm just watching video's etc. Nice!

    I agree, he has his own style for sure. I watched a video of him playing solo the other day and he has hidden chops that we don't see in Green Day.

    It's not a 59, it's his signature which is modeled after a 54 but with the split coil pickups. The standard p bass design came out in 1957, so a 59 isn't that different from a 63 or 77 or modern p bass

    He also played a Gibson G3 during the Dookie era. Just sayin' 😜

    Actually I think dookie was recorded with a p bass but insomniac with gibson G3

    The story I have read is he used a P bass which he hired on Dookie, but it was a PJ set up. Hence why it has a bit more of a rich tone than a organic type of sound of a pure P bass. He started using P basses live in the Nimrod era.
