The dress in Footloose is a prom dress for the 80s. Andie's dress in Pretty in Pink was even a disaster IN the 80s.

I saw it in the theater. As someone who was already very much into vintage, I actually yelled, "She cut up Annie Potts' vintage dress for THAT?!" when Molly Ringwald came out in that dress. It still gives me nightmares.

@@lynnevetter As a Gen X who grew up with the Brat Pack… no one ever liked that dress. It was a real bummer of a reveal.

Romy and Michelle's outfits were a very big part of the point the film was making. The film rocks because it's about being true to your self and the value of friendship.

Sandy's dress from Grease is timeless! ❤ Carrie's dress was gorgeous 💗

Never liked the pretty in pink dress and still mad that she didnt pick Ducky.

Andie was supposedly a very "Fashion Forward" Girl, but she ruined two perfectly nice dresses to create what resembled a hideous pink potato sack. Not to mention, one of those gowns belonged to her friend and manager. Even Molly Ringwald herself disliked the "timeless" dress.

I always coveted Kat's elegant blue ballgown, but alas, I was never able to find one exactly like it in my area.

I get the feeling that the choices made where very biased.

Carrie's and Kat's are my favorites! They are timeless!

While I agree with most of this list - I wouldn't recommend taking movies from the last few years as example. You say now Emma and Alyssa's looks are "classic" but the movie is from 2020, so in ten years we might consider them hopelessly outdated and "very 20s".

I'm sorry, but the teal/turquoise girl tuxedo is not classic. The shirt ruffles scream dated to me.

As much as I liked Rachel Leigh Cook's dress in She's All That, I LOVED the silver halter dress that Taylor wore. OK, so I clearly can't remember RLC's character's name (wait, is it Katie??) nor can I remember the mean girl Taylor's real name! Dang it

The actress playing Taylor was Jodi Lyn O’Keefe. I loved Laneys dress and wore a very similar one to homecoming but I agree, Taylor’s was a little better

I wasn't a big fan of Bianca's dress back in the 90s, but now for some reason, I dig.

You forgot to mention one thing. In between the 1976 and 2013 Carrie films, based on the Stephen King novel of the same name, there was a 2002 Made for TV remake/reimagining of Carrie where Angela Bettis in the title role where she also wears a pink dress. IMHO, this actually deserves honorable mention. Likwise, it was also a sleeveless dress. I am aware that many people don't think much of the 2002 version, but when I watched it when it premiered, I thought, and felt, that it was THE best adaption of the novel as it followed the novel very faithfully. Again, I feel that the dress in the 2002 version deserves honorable mention.

I just want to say it is WILD that "10 Things I Hate About You" cast Gabrielle Union as a high school sophomore. While she does look quite young, she was twenty-four, the only high school cast member who was in their twenties and not high school-aged. Larissa, Joseph, and Julia were 17, and Heath and Andrew were 18.

I loved Rachel Leigh Cook's dress, in She's All That. It was very beautiful and elegant. She definitely had class. I hated Molly Ringwald's dress, in Pretty in Pink, but clearly, it wasn't her first choice, either. There was nothing "timeless" about it. It just kind of hung there on her, like a sack. Ariel's dress in Footloose didn't age well. And neither did Romy and Michelle's Madonna-inspired dresses. But the dresses they wore to their high school reunion looked awesome! Drew Barrymore's shiny prom dress in Never Been Kissed was horrible! But I loved the Shakespeare-inspired dress she wore, at the end of the movie.

Technically, the dance in Grease was not the senior prom You should do one of these videos about wedding dresses

I love Andie's dress. I think itwas well done in a way that looked like a starting self taught designer made.
