Heres a solid example of amazon's customer obsession. I deactivated my amazon prime subscription yeaterday. Without initiating a refund (i didn't count it as an option) a refund of my remaining sub time was automatically initiated when i chose to end my benefits immediately. I got almost all of that month's payment back with no hassle ($14 out of the total $15). That felt really good. Thats customer priority.

Just paused the video to say this: I started my entreprenourial project about 12 months ago and have been reading a lot to get my head straight about these things. Wow. As a biology major/aspiring entrepreneur I love the connection to the natural world. I have never thought about how business and science are related. But its such a brilliant point, in nature the best ideas and solutions to each and every problem survive. Just because one adaptation to a problem works in one type of environment, or niche, doesn't mean it will work in all others. And just because one adaptation doesn't work in one place, doesn't mean it can't work in another.The adaptations that allow power and control over the environment and competitors will WIN.

Great lesson. Especially the part about long term thinking (my god, this is exactly what I missed and a lot of friends around are missing, because we are responding to financial and other stresses with short term solutions ending exhausted and disenchanted with ourselves - this pinpoints exactly the trap). The idea of internal competition as a driving engine to expansion wasn't really new for me, I heard already about it from a very successful businessman whos company is in Permanent expansion since decades, without interuption. We can put this idea in action as one-person-business too. I will sure read and study these lessons again... thanks for sharing!!! :)

The Stanford Marshmallow Experiment was not necessarily proof that "thinking in the longterm" leads to success. Actually what was fundamental to that experiment was SELF DISCIPLINE. That is what it was that caused those persons to be more successful in life. Long term thinking doesn't work, if you're not disciplined, and yes on the contrary if you're disciplined then you can be even more successful if you also think long term.

Nick Hankins . Great most informative five points.

The marshmallow test. Like many classic test in psychology. Has been found to be erroneous. Once corrected for the test errors. What was discovered was that a promise being kept or not was what made the difference in long-term success. Example if an authority figure tells you you do X you'll be rewarded and follows through. Then you will have self discipline. If an authority figure tells you to do X and you'll be rewarded and does not follow through on the reward. You will learn that delayed gratification is not worth the self-discipline. Emily and the marshmallow test proves that truth, trust and keeping your word is what's most important in developing self discipline.

23:48 Communication is a cost. Make sure it is at the minimum effective DOSE!

Where's your other shoe, Brett!?

Speaking of thinking about the long term consequences, how do you reconcile that against people who delusionally think that something less significant will lead to them becoming a huge success oneday? They get a little break and they think "oh this could be what leads to my big break!" Do you see what I mean? There's a difference between knowing a reasonable long term consequence of short term actions and delusional long term consequences of the same.

You know, the first time you meet someone in person you tend to form an instant opinion. Whether right or wrong, it happens. Most times (I'd like to think...cognitive dissonance perhaps) I've been right but sometimes I've also been wrong. We're all human after all. Well, online it's pretty much the same of course. The first time you see some content put in front of you served from someone that has a message that resonates somewhat, you can't help but judge how it's presented to you and as a result form an instant opinion. So for me, when I first came across Sam Ovens, I saw some, what I would call, fairly pretentious click baity attention grabbing headlines which for me seemed way too inauthentic and disingenuous. As in, if what you have to do that to grab my attention is pull some crappy stunt then you've lost any credibility already. However, that indeed is my folly, but with so much 'shite' of a similar ilk being served to me daily my filters are pretty harsh and time served. Even though you should never prejudge anyone as a rule with all the content out there from so called 'gurus' it's easy to get do just that and become jaded. However, I have also subsequently learned that some of these people do actually talk a load of sense and their words and 'mind hacks' have a profound and positive effect on your life. How I wished I learnt about self limiting beliefs before... Nonetheless, Sam's content kept occasionally popping up....and when I saw some content that seemed authentic and not jazzed up I was curious......as to me it presented in a 'fake' way...this guy all of a sudden seemed to be coming across as authentic. As a result, it aroused my curiosity. Only at that point did I actually then give any of my time to listen to what he was saying. And...well...I'm glad I did. Since that time there have been many lessons which I have taken to heart and they've had a remarkable and profound effect on my life. In the way I've readjusted my thinking , in the way I've 'decluttered' less important and distracting things that take me away from my goals and also rewired and readjusted my mind and mindset on a few simple daily routines and tasks. Some of the things he touches on are, well, on the surface, pretty damn obvious when he explains them....however....it is only until he explains them do they become damn obvious! As a result the clear rationale he gives actually becomes clear. His free content has had an effect on me, I've now gotten to know, like and trust him and will be happy at some point to buy from him in the future. And therein, lies the true crux of my little story and is definitive proof of how nurturing your audience can take the most ardent 'anti' Fan and turn them into a fan and brand ambassador, to such an extent that they even bother to write this whole chapter about how being humble and not prejudging people, can actually be a huge lesson in life overall. I love learning, about 'things' and 'stuff' but learning about yourself and how taking full responsibility for yourself as an individual can be so empowering and also have a profound and positive effect on those around you too. So if you've got this far, thanks for 'listening' and if you haven't, well, it doesn't really matter anyway does it. Happy Sandwiches! :-)

Yes, interesting and decent advice. It's a shame that nearly all of the application of any of these ideas goes towards mindless cash inflow. "The brightest minds and programmers of today are dedicated to generating clicks and making literal clickers for clorox wipe refills." Success cultists wouldn't be such a bad thing if their followers applied some of the material to goals of more substantial value improving human life and culture. A brilliant mind focused on generating simple product and personal revenue is a terrible waste.
