    The dotted quarters resolving each bar is the tresillo rythm btw :) (The basic Reaggeton and Afropop rythms are both exactly this 3-3-2 pattern. Reaggaeton does it with Kick - snarish sound - Kick, and afropop does it with Kick - snarish sound - snarish sound)

    Since "resolve" has a specific meaning (relating to notes and chords in a key/scale) when discussing music theory, you could avoid confusion in this video by saying "restart" when talking about the rhythms. These rhythmic patterns don't "resolve", they are loops that restart.

    I'm working in FL STUDIO and there's an option where you can chop to 8th/4th/quarter notes by one click. Pretty handy qol function.😊 Pretty awesome tutorial and well insight into production techs. Your channel improved my craft pretty awesome.     Instead of dragging out multiple notes each time . . . just make your note or chord the length of a bar (or however long you need it to), then - make sure the note or chord is selected, take the scissors tool and while holding 'alt' cut at the first 8th (or 4th, or dotted 8th . . . etc) and Logic will automatically chop the whole chord into 8ths (or whatever you've chosen).

    I like the stuff you mentioned and I subbed because of this video and the melody video... I just can't get over in my head getting off the grid on that first rhythm 😂 Quantizers are my one savior on my songs (I free play everything on a midi and I have a terrible time holding my own tempo) But I dunno, it might be something good if I was programming/designing a game that used more eclectic/anxious sounds that make players feel uncomfortable, the whole, being on tempo one note, then the next where it kinda randomly isn't, then the next one on is, is probably a great way idea for a psychological thriller/horror game/movie/show, ngl.

    The film Halloween uses a 5/4 timing to create anxiety, unfamiliarality in its theme tune. I know that's not the same as turning off quantise but the outcome is similar to what you describe. I have to be honest, I dislike it when producers do that with the drums. I used to DJ and I was unaware of this craze and it could throw a mix apart if you didn't expect it. My biggest bugbear though is people saying "Do x or do y,, to make it sound "more real"". Then once glance at their drum pattern and they have an open Hi-hat playing at the same time as a closee Hi-hat. I know some DAWs will remove the clash with mute groups but its just bad practice Note - I don't mean Alex BTW

    A simple 808 or 909 should do the job and yes, your kick shouldn't be longer than an 8th note too to give the bass more headroom :)

    okay but what about a melody that goes 0---0---0--0--0- --0-0---0---0-0- 0---0---0--0--0- 0--0--0--0--0-0- and then you have the higher keys on top of that going up and down, sometimes 00000000 sometimes 0-000--00---0000 or just 0-0-0-0-0-0-0-00 or just any variation like who cares tbh and then you add a simple breakbeat over it, like not amen but just a simple groover break or some standard yamaha preset break with the bass in between beats with a reeverb on nearly everything except bass, but all at different levels, so that the drum beat sounds more like a studio drum with a bit of echoing while the melody sounds more ethereal with them lengthy reverbs if you get what i mean.. then every so often you throw in that key change for no reason just to pretend like you just did something there, but all you did was throw everything 2 keys up and change every minor chord to a major chord.. you could also like add some sus4 chords in there if you're not sure about the key change yet, so that you can add another key change on top of that, now with more instruments accompanying the melody to make it sound orchestral.. but in reality it's just a simple loop that doesn't overstay its welcome..

    I dunno man. Where you have it not resolve on the bar kinda sounds messed up. There are other ways to go about it though. A leading note at the end perhaps. I have been a musician like 40 years.

    Leading note at the end of the first bar is definitely the musically “right” way to do it but this is also targeted towards relatively beginner electronic dance producers so I think it was left out to focus on the rhythmic aspect of the melodic structure
