Hi Beryl. I'm Native American. My grandmother taught me how to make what she called "Fry Bread"...but it's not like southwestern Native American fry bread, that's more like doughboys. My gram's recipe is more like a pancake. If you are interested in making some Native American cuisine, I also have a few recipes from my cousins, such as Hull beans and salt pork, and Venison stew ❤️

In the US, most cheese balls are vegetarian or could easily be--they're usually cream cheese, shredded cheese of a variety with more flavor, seasonings, and then rolled in chopped nuts. Sometimes they have bacon bits but those are easily omitted. The chicken is actually kind of anomalous.

So tequeños back home in Venezuela do have a cheese pull, usually you gotta use a frying cheese, or many of the Venezuelan soft cheeses that resemble mozzarella texture. We sometimes also blend cheeses as well. Queso fresco is def more of a crumble/ topping cheese. Doesn’t really work with tequeños. Confusing because they can both be called Queso Blanco. Queso fresco is also more of a Mexican cheeses as well. Venezuela has so much culture around our cheeses that I would love to see on this channel one day!

Gracias for clarifying this. I was looking at that cheese and was nope that’s not how Venezuelan make it at all. Mexican cheese is not even close to the flavor of the cheese we use. And the dough didn’t look right either…tequenos dough expands tons during fry and is more soft than stretchy 🇻🇪

0:21 Just a few tips from someone who's made similar dishes before. 1) mix the seasoning into the cream cheese first thing to make sure it gets evenly distributed. Otherwise, you run the risk of other ingredients causing it to clump in certain spots, so one person gets a "meh" seasoned bite and another gets a bite that is ALL seasoning. 2) mix in the shredded cheese last. I've found that shredded cheese tends to be very absorbent, which causes a similar situation, in that the cheese can make things clump together when if you'd mixed them in before the cheese, they'd be more evenly distributed. (Also, one final thought: for the presentation, what about a cheese log? Then people can just scoop away the end of the log. I feel like that would be less work than a bunch of mini balls.) In any case, I can see that dip being a huge smash with my family. It includes chicken, cheese, and ranch flavor, which are essentially our three favorite things 😁 4:09 It's very interesting to see a potato salad made without mayonnaise. My husband is NOT a mayo fan, so maybe he would like this or some variation of it. Also, side note, I find it very interesting/amusing that with one exception, all these appetizers include cheese. Cheese is just a party kinda food, I guess.

So for the tequeños: the queso blanco in Venezuela is different from what we find here in the US. It has a stretchy pull, and a strong almost Swiss like flavor. As such, I make my tequeños here with Gruyère or emmentaler and I highly recommend it. Glad you liked them!

The potato salat was a more South German way. In North Germany we don't use Apple and have a mayonnaise based sauce (but pickles and the pickle water for the sauce are a must, too!). It is like ios or android, there is a huge discussion about it xD I am glad you liked it! And as you said, there are soooo many variations. Btw: in North Germany it is a typical Dinner for Christmas Evening to have potato salad and Vienna sausages. It is not very festive, but I think it is that way, because it is easy to make and you already have so much to do. Also when you have kids they are impatient and want to have there gifts (in Germany you get them on the 24.). (I know everyone looked for this commend xD I wrote it because no one else did before me because I was quote early. I can't keep up with the answers, sorry)

True, luckily she said that every region and familiy makes it different. I suppose a Potato Salad from Kiel is defintily vastly differnt than one from Munich and it might be hard to find 2 families who do it exactly 1: : 1 in the same city alone. As a fellow Nothern German do you also know the traidtion of having Prickled Heringssalad in (before -&) Crhistmas times? I read it's a similliar thing there are like Prickled Heringsalad versions from Poland, Nothern Germany and a few other countries, I belive but nowhere it said it's specialized for Christmas as it is for me & my familiy.

Some don't even use pickels or even apples. Instead where I live we use soup or soup- powder added in water , some vinegar, mustard, sugar , salt, pepper and a dash of Maggie. We sauté the onions glossy in oil , this is better for digestion and you can have the salad for several days in the fridge. Sometimes we add ' Endevian ' salat thinly cut and a wee bit of garlic or even dill pickels. No matter what , German potato salad is the best ( without mayonnaise ) just like breads.

Hi Beryl! I have a Maggi (Indian instant ramen) recipe for you which I really want you to try if you make Maggi again! 1. Take a saucepan (turn on the flame only AFTER putting in the Maggi noodles and water together!) 2. Add the Maggi and water together. 3. Put it on high flame. 4. When the white layer forms within the bubbles on top of the noodles, and when you know that the noodles are done, add garlic powder with cayenne powder and turn off the flame. 5. Drain the water. 6. Take another pan, melt butter, put the noodles and fully coat it. Take some peas and also put them. 7. Add some chaat masala (according to your taste). 8. Add maggi masala (according to your spice tolerance level, I put 1 packet) 9. Add not thin but not thick layers of cheese in it. Mix until melted. Add just a little bit of oregano and chilli flakes (according to your taste) 10. ENJOY!

Beryl! Since you’re in NYC a better replacement for venezuelan cheese to make tequeños is the Tropical Queso de Freir. They sell it at most Latin stores. I agree with everyone that Mexican queso fresco is not necessarily the best option. You should be able to get a bit of a cheese pull when you bite a Tequeño. Also, I would highly recommend you visit a Venezuelan restaurant and get them as an appetizer, that way you’ll be able to tell the difference. Thank you for choosing tequeños they are a real Venezuelan party staple that are gaining a lot of popularity in places like Argentina and España where there are a lot of Venezuelan immigrants. ❤

A party food I grew up with was corned beef, dried beef, or even salami, (just a nice salted and cured meat) with cream cheese spread in it, rolled up, and then dipped in various things, like mustard, hot sauce, honey, whatever. Super easy peasy. I also did 'random eggrolls' once for a party with my friends and they were a hit. Some had macaroni and cheese, some were pizza (mozzarella and pepperoni bits), and the third was pulled pork. Again, various sauces provided for dipping.

This was a fun episode. This and snacks are good episodes when people can just come up w/ anything they like. Most other things like holiday or special dishes from other countries, I like to see something traditional. Do another cheese episode and have more recipes w/ paneer, cottage cheese and ricotta. Those cheeses, people don't seem to post many recipes for. Thanks!

Every year for the past 4yrs now, I make a Hemp Cheese Ball. It is a basic vegetarian herb flavored cheese ball. The ball is compromised of Cream Cheese and Cheddar Cheese with a mix of fresh herbs & seasoning of your choice. It contains ground Hemp CBD flower, which was infused into the cream cheese over night. Then I roll the ball in Hemp Seeds, and make sure the whole thing is covered in seeds. It's not only delicious but good for you too!

I would press the chicken cheese ball into silicon heart moulds for individual portions. We make the sauce for our potato salad from onion, apple, gherkins, miracle whip, some gherkin brine, salt, pepper and a teaspoon of sugar. Some people in my family do not care for raw onions so i throw the cubed apple and onion into the microwave with a little applejuice or water as the first step. Loved this vid a lot. Happy holidays to all celebrating

The cheese ball presentation is a mid-centry thing. All the one's that I've had are generally served with a knife where you cut off what you want, rather than try and think of them as a dip. Though I agree that it could be updated, could be interesting as a log to simplify the portioning.

Here (central Canada) cheese logs are usually goat cheese based and have blueberries or cranberries (sometimes nuts) on the outside. Cheese balls are cream cheese based. Both styles are served with cheese knives.

I love this kind of German potato salad. In my version I use way more vinaigrette (vinegar, sugar, salt, pickle juice) and let the salad sit for a couple of hours. So the potatoes soak up all the vinaigrette and the salad is super fresh and moist. Perfect for a hot summers day barbecue.
