5 Overlooked Factors in Studio Design | ADAM Audio & Steve Durr
For more on Steve's work: www.stevendurr.com/
ADAM Audio sat down with legendary recording studio designer, Steve Durr to discuss some of the factors that he thinks are overlooked in studio design today, from room acoustics to the vibe. Steve has designed some of the foremost recording studio facilities around the world. We hope you enjoy this video and learn something from it. ADAM Audio was founded in March 1999 in Berlin. Since then the company has been developing, manufacturing and distributing loudspeakers in the field of Professional Audio.
The development of the X-ART (eXtended Accelerating Ribbon Technology) tweeter based on the 1960’s invention of the Air Motion Transformer by Oskar Heil was largely responsible for the company’s founding. Producing sound not with a piston-like diaphragm as is done in most of the loudspeakers that are on the market, but using a pleated diaphragm that is capable of moving the air 4 times faster than the folds themselves are moving was the appealing idea behind it all. The achieved results were intriguing and gave ample reason for moving forward.

    This is the most insightful video I've seen on acoustics yet. Huge thanks to you all at Adam Audio for making this video and asking the questions that truely matter. Gear and acoustics matter sure, but the vibe of the studio in which the music is made is critical. Not to mention the band dad subject. One dude in every decent band or group is the real star of the show. I've seen this so many times and know it to be absolute fact. Its funny as hell to hear others point it out. Anyhow, great content guys!

    Trick/Tip that may/may not work for you, but did for me: If you have a comfortable and well designed room that people love, don't allow smoking in the studio. It allows the artist to take a break outside of the room. Once they come back in, they fall in love, over and over again in a single session. It's like reliving their first time, every time. It opens up their creativity even more. Great video btw! I'd love to hear more from Mr. Durr.

    If the control room is not right the monitors will never be accurately heard. If the studio vibe isn't good the performance will be diminished. Listen to what experts like Steve Durr have to say...over my 40 year career as a studio and auditorium designer/builder I have learned so much from listening and studying men like Steve. You must have a love for music and producing it emotionally, technically and sonically........S.Walker "Genesis Productions" ASA, AIA, MS and A7X owner.

    The part of the focalpoint where the speakers are aimed at, was the most helpfull tip I could get. My speakers sound more open. Only a few degrees make a whole lot of difference! Is the focal point 2ft behind listening position in that sized room specifically? I can only assume it's a smaller measurement in my smaller room? Or is it dependent on how far your listening position is from you monitors?

    Hey guys! This is a super informative video.! Currently in the middle of a studio build project and have been looking at your speakers to use as the main monitors. But while we are still building I’ve been thinking a lot about air con actually and I’m a little stumped.. would you guys have any recommendations for a quiet air con unit for a smallish space around 5m x 6m? Would a split system be a good idea? Also, is an aircon unit enough to cover us for ventilation or should we also add some vents with silent flow fans? Thanks again guys! Priceless stuff in this video Ethan

  • @ADAMAudioBerlin

    @ADAMAudioBerlin

    3 жыл бұрын

    Hi Ethan, we reached back out to Steve about this question and here's what he had to say: "The HVAC question is hard to answer however we have several clients with mini splits, some are ducted and others are not. It depends on several factors, how well is the space insulated, is it in a very hot environment, such as South America, how much equipment is in the room, lots of tube gear, etc. They will work well in a control room; you may have to turn it off when recording with an open mic, in the studio, as mics pick up everything especially when doing vocals or acoustic instruments. That is a difficult question but I hope this helps." Let us know if you have any further questions!
