    I started playing in 2008 and there were already detailed guides online with pictures and short videos to show different types of drifts and other techs (grass zigzag, adherence tricks like doing a S trajectory on a S-shaped drop down or the trick to drop optimally on an inclined booster at map start, etc..). But you learn much much more from competing against replays on lots of maps while wr hunting.

    it took me several years to learn that the treshold for standard drifts (as opposed to neo slides) is specifically when you reach the third gear, regardless of speed. that avoids lots of missteps whenever you decide the time to start drifting.

    @@Wilker_uwu What is a standard drift vs. neo slide?

  • @Wilker_uwu

    @Wilker_uwu

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@IroAppe a regular drift is basically explained in the video - if you have enough momentum and are in a gear where the grip on the ground is slightly weaker, and you brake, you slide in the asphalt to get a better angle in tight curves and turns - while a neo slide aims to emulate a drift at much lower speeds, where the grip is too much to be as simple as braking like in the regular drift. i mentioned this because even experienced players often have issues with those manouvers, and often end up doing "noslides", where the car just slows down while turning when braking. the main reason for that, is while in most of the history of the franchise the interfaces and visual feedback used to be a lot more minimalist and straightforward, the games also had an accessibility issue, where vital information is often shown in only one way, like the acceleration and gear changes in Trackmania Nations Forever and Trackmania 2: Stadium only being perceived in the sound effects but with no visual feedback. in a sidenote, if you're interested in how accessibility can be improved in these aspects in other ways, check this video on Gamemaker's Toolkit ^^ kzread.info/dash/bejne/ZoJ7x5adqs_bm8Y.html it is a bit offtopic but still relevant somewhat

    For those wondering about how to manage ice, here's what I've learned: - Always pointing your entire car towards the place where you want to go for gradual turns can help. So for a gradual 45 degree turn, point your car 45 degrees at the start of the turn and maintain it. - Never steer anywhere at the very start of a race on ice. After that, do very gentle adjustments. - Make very smooth adjustments with analog controls rather than sudden taps of harsher tire movement. - The more steering and adjustments you make the slower you will go. - For a right quarterpipe bank pretend you are a bobsled. Line up with the left side first and keep your car pointed parallel with the center line of the road. Your car should line up in the red marked area of the bank for maximum speed. If you are able to line up your car perfectly without any bobbing, I find it is usually best to steer slightly in the opposite direction of the turn so you are slightly higher on the bank for a gentler ride. - For sharp flat turns, turn your car between 90 and 180 degrees then turn sharply in the opposite direction of the turn. Your tires should somewhat point in the direction of where you want to be heading. Exit the turn by straightening your car out quickly in the direction of travel rather than gradually can help get more speed. Also, while holding down the gas, tap the break during the initial turn and your car will rotate much faster, allowing you to get it at the correct angle for the turn faster. You can also use snow on the side of the road for a bit more traction during higher speed turns. On Summer 2020 25, the right sharp flat ice turn after the reactor boost can amazingly be done at full speed without letting go of the gas. Doing all of this right makes you feel like a boss. - Do not do bug turns on ice. Instead, start straight then do the process for a sharp flat turn. - Rarely you can turn your car around about 180 degrees while breaking then drive straight. This will slow your car down much faster than just breaking. - If you do all of this right, you should never let off the gas. - Combining all of these techniques in just the right ways for each turn is crucial for getting excellent times. I doubt this is even everything.

    It's not much less than half a second. But saying 0.3 seconds sounds pretty weird. The point is simply that you have to hold steering for a bit. Once you get that you will learn the finer mechanics of drifting by yourself because atleast now you know what consistently allows you to drift.

    Been playing since the original and sunrise came out 15 years ago and am only now learning that there's an option for manual transmission? Lots of great essential tips in here. Nadeo have honestly changed the game so much since I last played that I'll have to re-watch your video to get the hang of some techniques again.

    I don't think there's manual transmission, is just that you can use the automatic transmission in your favour.

    thx yt algorithms for showing me your channel. I played TM in my teens like crazy - its the best racing game ever - with inifinite ways to play it and still competitive as fck. It combines simplicity of an arcade game with modern modding, mapping and community and infinite exploitable tricks and techniques - something other racing games like NFS or gran turismo never focus on, they are too linear, too stiff =) Had a nice time wachting most of your videos and downloading TM atm =)

    I would actually love to hear how you can control your drift. Do you tap the drift? do you release? in which situations do you do which?

    Good lord I'be been having so much difficulty finding a good drift tutorial and actually performing the drifts. No one ever mentioned the turn delay and minimum speed! As someone coming back from the original trackmania stadium all the way back, I was having so much trouble re-adapting.
