My dream would be to own this and a CRF450RL. Unfortunately, as a college student I can only afford one! So the Honda may be the better bet just because it has the dual-sport versatility. But the Yamaha is definitely on my list. Great review and straight to the point!

I couldn't agree more on the stock suspension. It's valved way too stiff for off road, especially out west where you run into tons of rock washes. I couldn't believe how much stiffer the 21FX is VS my Yz250x.

In my experience so far with my 21 FX... I was impressed with the Dunlop Geomax tires, both front and back and ran them till their ends. They are not my go-to tires... but impressive and almost equivalent. Hot start wasn't resolved with battery for me. Best fix so far is slight turn on the throttle when starting... I am getting better at it. Woods twitchiness and flameouts calmed down somewhat with a 49 T sprocket and throttle tamer.... but I have just learned to cover the clutch A LOT more. The bike just stands out in single track and you can get in the "flow" real easy with great confidence. Power is way more then I need and exhaustive. Cannot wait to get my suspension tune! I have a 21 wr250. First thing I noticed was how nimble it is on the trails. Really increased my confidence on tight trails and tougher hill climbs. I think the wr has softer springs than the fx, not 100% sure. The stalling is a little annoying. Hopefully when I install the gytr ecu that will help out.

I have a 2020 yz250f and I can hear where you are coming from on hot starts. I dont know I'd the dealer told you but slightly open the throttle a little bit and the bike fires right up. If you have stock grips on there is a dot on the inside of the grip that you line up to a line on the throttle housing. If you dont have stock grips well then it's just spending some time finding the sweet spot.

Im surprised hardly no one addresses the clutch drag issue. Its definitely a reason its harder to start after stall, the motor never fully disengages with clutch pulled in unless trans in in neutral. It gets better as the oil warms up, but It drove me nutts on my '15 and its a small reason I didnt buy a '21WR250F. Soaking the clutch plates in oil over night fixes it I heard. But anyway, the WRF/FX are great bikes. Especially like the '21s and up with the all blue scheme.

How does the 250FX compare to the KTM 250 XC-F? I’m torn between the two as they are both great bikes. I do the same style riding you do and May start racing some hare scrambles down here in Florida next race season so I want a killer single track/scramble weapon. I’m currently a C class but may bump up to B class for more competition. Any advice? Keep up the great videos!

Thanks for watching! They are both great bikes. Generally speaking the KTMs start faster on dead starts if you're racing harescrambles. In my opinion the biggest downside for the KTM is the AER forks. It's really hard to beat the suspension and handling of the YZ250FX. The yamaha's are hard to find right now, not sure about the XCF. It may come down to which one you can find. You really can't go wrong either way.

I have ridden a couple of my friend's YZ250Xs. I like those bikes a lot but the vibration and the lack of a e-start would keep me from seriously considering it. I have not ridden a YZ450FX. Thanks for watching!

The WR250F comes stock with the headlight, taillight and fan. The US version of the WR250F has a restricted airbox, restricted exhaust and the throttle is limited to 3/8 by a throttle stop screw. You can't change the ignition and fuel mapping with the stock ECU. Of course that can all be undone and opened up. The GYTR ECU is the most expensive part.

I do not dispute that the Fx can be ridden in the woods but it is designed as a cross country race bike. The WR has a heavier flywheel and a more mellow exhaust cam which makes it more rideable in the woods.

@@DirtBikingwithDonnieI'm thinking also to have a revalve. I've already changed the spring even using 2.5w oil but I think it is still a little stiff. How soft is the suspension after a revalve? Does it mean you're now using past 60% or more of the suspension travel in this video?

@@TubolMotoadventures Yeah, definitely using more than 60%. On a typical ride I’m using about 80% and 95-100% in races. I had my shock revalved too as it was really stiff as well.

If you do much of the trail in this video the WR250F is the better bike and actually the bike set from the factory for enduro/HS racing. A GYTR ign box is like $150 if that's your hang up and much cheaper than a suspension revalve.
