    Bobby, love your channel. However, have one clarification for TAMUKs. You described the TAMUK Composite. There is also the TAMUK White - genetically a New Zealand, however A&M selectively bred their REW New Zealands to be heat tolerant as well. They are not show quality, but excellent commercial meat production. Both may be referred to as TAMUK rabbits, but there is a difference between the two different strains.

    Mini Rex’s don’t eat as much as the bigger 9 lb. rex rabbits they use smaller cages and are ideal for pet sales. They’re a small breed compared to the medium breed Rex but like you mentioned, they have the same fur gene. A Rex rabbit will do well in the heat as well as a mini Rex. Just be sure to keep your hutch in full-time shade. And fresh cold water every 12 hours if possible

    Thanks for sharing your cinnamon rabbit experience. 90F or above is uncomfortable for rabbits if a buck goes long periods in the heat with no relief your bucks will surely lose their fertility. 120 sounds unbearable. If I were to run an outdoor rabbitry in that sort of hot climate I'd most definitely construct some sort of burrowing system in order to provide them some relief from the elements. • @TheRabbitryCenter

    @TheRabbitryCenter

    10 ай бұрын

    Rabbits are built for the cold not so much for the heat They’ll always be prone to heat stroke so it’s necessary. You take certain precautions to prevent it. They are comfortable in temperatures as low as -30F

  • @bennoah1673
    @bennoah16732 жыл бұрын

    If a rabbit is developed for heat tolerance, does that mean they have less cold tolerance. Those long ears and short fur would not be a blessing in the winter. Kingsville is pretty far south in Texas. Those of us who live just outside the artic circle (Fort worth😀) don’t see the mild winters in kingsville. To me the focus is the best all around breed with a top point being taste, then build your rabbitry for the comfort of your rabbit, a comfortable rabbit is a productive rabbit with a long life. These lovely little creatures are about to make a Big come back in popularity, they always do when humans are in crisis mode (war, famine).

  • @TheRabbitryCenter

    Thank you for taking the time to write your comment. If a rabbit can with stand the heat than it may not do as well in the cold. You do give up for what you get certain breeds will be better off in the winter time and others in the summertime. A perfect example is Rex fur. It's always best to purchase a rabbit locally if possible to ensure they are acclimated to your climate. Thank you for watching!

    Tamuk are now being raised in many states and do fine in the cold. Now of course you would do the housing and management a bit different. The breeder I know in Minnesota, for example, does most of her breeding in the summer but loves her Tamuks.

  • @TheRabbitryCenter

    @TheRabbitryCenter

    10 ай бұрын

    Dutch rabbits that have been raised in hot climates have produced litters that have inherited the same genetic characteristics as well as calibrated to that climate. Dutch rabbits, have a short fly back fur which allows them to stay comfortable. Now When folks move that rabbit out of its environment and drive it to a warmer climate for example, this is when folks run into trouble and start to experience heat stress.

  • @jamie5533

    The larger the ears the better the heat tolerate. The temuk's are genetically dialed in to have very long ears due to that's the only way a rabbit can expell heat from their body, they don't have sweat glands.

    Shade and ventilation plenty of water . Shouldn't have a problem. But I tried the rex rabbits sore hocks I'll pass on the rex. Cross breeding Rex With new Zealand the ones leaned to new Zealand side worked well . The ones leaned to Rex side soar hocks culled thoes. But you can tell the difference in Rex , new Zealand pads . I'm trying to get down to four does two bucks . But I'm still working on my breed . Temperament , body size , long ears , light color. I like the lighter colors because of heat. Light grey or white. Some or just wild naturally breeding that out as well . Don't like my arms scared up. Get Stratched to often. I'm not into selling rabbits for food only. Chickens, ducks also . I learning more about ducks as I go I think ducks don't eat anymore than chickens I believe get just as many eggs from ducks and there larger. I haven't eaten a duck yet but gonna try it. Ducks need water lots of it. The drought hasn't help me alot this year been hauling water every day not far but when you get in your senior years it's a pain. But these animals keep me busy probably keep me alive longer. I enjoy every dam minute of it. You can train chickens to go in at night I just holler bedtime now they go right into the coop. I don't have to wait till dark . sometimes I do depends on weather an my arse if it's dragging I'm ready to be on the couch.
