I so identify with your statement - "I am drawn to things that don't suite me, but I want them to suit me"! This is me all over - and I keep trying with certain things and they sit in my closet, even though I'm pretty good about most pieces of clothing! I also feel the same way about skirt lengths, and in the Summer only wear midi or maxi, as it's too warm for tights, and nobody wants to see my veins, etc. In the fall/winter, I can wear shorter, thanks to tights! Love the quilted jacket - and agree with everything you weren't fond to - loathe those denim skirts with front slits. Such a pleasure to watch/listen to someone who is articulate, with a lovely speaking voice.

Just stumbled on your channel. I like how you articulate things. I agree about the ripped denim, I like a frayed hem, but no holes! I guess I can see the look is kind of cool, but I just couldn't bring myself to buy something already shredded. I tend to wear boots with cottony leggings underneath (hate nylons, absolutely not) dresses in cold weather or long dresses with bare legs in the summer since that is much cooler than jeans and I do not like to wear shorts.

Hi Dez: Oh, how I miss my premenopausal body! I could wear almost ANYTHING,, even though I'm petite, only five feet tall. Of course, now I have the extra pounds, and I'm no longer trim and toned. I did wear hippie jeans in the 60's, but, they were frayed only at the bottom...I loved that era! I like the tailored black jeans. Trench coats don't look all that good on me. I hardly EVER wear dresses now, since I don't like my legs anymore. I loved the long, black skirt on you, and everything you wore that was flattering. Would I love to wear sleeveless tops or tanks in summer! No more, thanks to my stubborn "batwings". ☹️ I swear, I thought I'd stay slim and fit forever, until gravity took over. Such is life, sigh. Thank you so much for another great video with all your tips and advice. Hugs. Rosemarie ❤️

Hello, Dez - I think you looked great in the ripped jeans, but I understand your reluctance to wear them - especially as the other, non-ripped ones looked equally good. I agree completely with the not-showing-bare-legs thing: I haven't worn tights in years but I do wear lightweight (cropped in summer) black leggings under almost everything. And like you, I can't get away with girly, frilly, puffed sleeve, tiered dresses or anything with a medium or large print. It's partly age and partly height: I'm short but tall women can look good in bolder prints, I think. Anyway, thank you for another helpful and entertaining video. - Ruth

Oh Ruth, I wear leggings under almost everything too - in fact I had them on today under my linen trousers! I agree, taller women can wear bold prints, although Londoners don't seem to wear much in the way of prints - maybe it's due to our generally dull weather 😉 - thank you so much for watching and have a lovely Sunday and a great week!

So glad the skinny jeans thing is taking a back seat for now. In town today whilst sipping a coffee, enjoying people-watching, I saw jeans/trousers of all lengths & widths on all ages - some get it more right than others and as you say it's to all do with proportion, but safe to say 'looser' is in, in whichever way it suits the figure. For now a loose boyfriend fit feels comfy for me for everyday. I have a pair of wide leg trousers which have to sit at my high waist - I'm comfy wearing with a jacket which elongates my waist but haven't found anything else yet to top them off in which I feel right! Still experimenting! Your black skirt is fab! I did laugh about sticking a foot though ripped jeans - have done that a few times especially when in a rush, till they were ready for the bin! Thanks for sharing your take on it all, enjoyed it very much.

Thanks so much Sian! My waist seems to have grown an inch recently (can't think how 😉) so some of my jeans are feeling a little tight around the middle. I'm still ambivalent about high waists - sometimes I like them for holding me in, sometimes I feel they accentuate my tum!

Absolutely agreed, Dez! Denim skirts, to me, look frumpy, especially when they're maxi-length with that slit in the middle. I don't go for the ripped look , either. The black belted dress looked great! When it comes to large printed dresses, I have one rule: I never wear prints that make me look like my sofa!😅 I think mature women need to create a signature style for themselves. And I have a signature summer style that I swear by. Like you, I am short waisted, but I'm 5 ft 9, and so I try to wear dresses that will shroud that little imperfection. So what I do is I wear an all in one body shaper (foundation is important 😂) and a solid summer colored, loose fit, summer knitted, pencil type dress that's just below the knee, and then I combine it with a chiffon or filigree Duster that's as long as the dress with a dressy kitten heeled sandal. The summer knit has to be a quality knit dress. Because if it's a cheaply knitted dress, then it will defeat the purpose. I also agree that we should not be Trend slaves! I have a lot more to say about this subject but for now I'll just leave it at this. Great video, Dez! I always look forward to your videos. It's like, finally, somebody mature is making sense!😂❤

The only thing is that I managed to find one pair of wide leg jeans which look really good on me. you are the first person who is not very keen on wearing trenchcoats like me. I live in Poland. I used to Live in London for 17 years and the weather is very similar. I bought a trench coat which was a total fail, I am either too hot or too cold in it plus I realised I don’t look good in it.I love your videos, you are such a lovely and classy lady❤

You look good in the shorter dresses that are A-line but not too voluminous. (You look good in most of the clothing, tbh.) Maybe some self-tanner on the legs to cover up the uneven skin tone? I notice I can't do stiff fabrics like that jean skirt as I get older. My denim has to have some stretch and softness to look flattering. Enjoyed the video!! 🙂

Hi my darling Dez. It's hard for me to find shorter skirts, considering I'm only 5'! Luckily, I never inherited my mom's or grandmom's varicose veins. Like you, I have quite skinny legs (they're my father's bird legs, LOL), so they're the last to go! I do wear shorts, but nothing crazy. Self tanner is my best friend in the warmer months. I just ordered a midi denim skirt with the slit. Haven't gotten it yet, but I'm sure it will be returned. The black skirt looks incredible on you. You are my twin sister. We're built exactly the same. I'm not into large floral patterns. You remind me so much of Isabella Rossellini. ❤ I love the black & white dress on you! I do wear ripped jeans, but nothing outlandish. My dad would be turning over in his grave if he saw me wearing ripped jeans. Frayed edges are the best. If the jeans are too long, it's easier to cut them shorter. The olive green trench is such a classic. I have a very similar quilted jacket. Very nice. Have you tried buying the wide leg jeans in a petite size? I bought one pair. They've not been worn yet, but I think I like them. Have an amazing week. Hope your daughter had a fabulous birthday. Much love❣️💖🥰

Good morning (afternoon when you read this) dearest Rene! Now, very interesting re skirt - please let me know how you get on - it will look a lot better on you than on me, I’m sure - my tum is just too large and those blimmin pockets! And oh what a compliment re la bella Isabella! Someone once told me that years ago, when she was in Blue Velvet - which I’ve not seen - but she is very beautiful, as was her mum! Both my parents would be horrified at ripped jeans - my mum refused to let me out of the house once in my hippy days when I wore a ripped shawl! I was surprised about the black and white dress - but tbh I don’t have an occasion to wear it as we’re so casual here these days 😏 I am still tempted by the green trench as looking back at the footage it did look quite good. I might wait for the sale! Had a fab time with my daughter - we were so lucky with the weather that day - I think Spring has finally sprung. Have a wonderful week and sending much love ❤️❤️❤️

@@beautybydezif you have a large tummy, I don't see it. We are after all, our worst critics. But I understand what you are saying. In the last year or so, I've put on weight, and it seems to have gone to the tummy, and breasts, exactly where I don't need it! You looked lovely in the black & white dress, and the trench was devine! I remember sewing patches on my jeans in the late 70s, but never having ripped jeans! And I'm sure if I did, my sweet daddy would never let me out of the house in them! You definitely bear a very striking resemblance to Isabella! I always loved her! A classic beauty, like her mom! We already had a few days of summer, now, unfortunately, it's cold again. So glad to hear that you had a wonderful time with your daughter! How lucky for her to have you as her mom! I loved the hippy era, flowing skirts, tye dye t shirts, pity it didn't suit me! 😉

Same - I had the most awful pair of lime green velvet loon pants - what was I thinking 😱

I have decided at my age that I will not buy the stuff that doesn't look good on me just because it's trending. Case in point, pleated trouser pants. I see them being suggested as an essential wardrobe piece that everyone should have. That is baloney. There are no essential pieces of clothing that look good on everyone. One has to try things on and see how they look.

I hated the pleated pants the first time around in the 80s 🌹

Bold prints are not flattering - at all - for anyone. A classical dresser will always remain, a classical dresser.
