Tip for zenithal, use the technique with the primers or undercoats. Black spraying upwards, gray straight on, and white from above. Then give it color coat.

As a mini-painter, Zenithal is supposed to be Black Base, Grey from 45 degrees and above, and white from straight about, to great hard lights, hard shadows, and soft shadows.

Just wanted to chime in.. for spraying, Montana colors spray paint (graffiti paint) sticks to literally any surface with nice deep coverage without needing a primer base, not to mention the HUGE range of colors and spray cap choices. I find that using their paint for painting really anything other than graffiti, works really well to save a little time and money.

I do the Zenithal starting from a black base then to light grey at a 45-degree angle then a pure white (lightly from above) with rattle cans - then few drops of Liquitex Acrylic Colored Inks in the air brush and once blasted with color it comes out vibrant and stunning and shaded to different tones of the ink color because of the three-stage zenithal. My personal favorite way of "Quick Coloring" - the metal effects for patina and rust look great though, gonna try to give that a shot next time I'm at a hobby lobby. Some new(ish) techniques I'm trying next is cheapo soft pastels from the dollar store in a coffee grinder to create "Pigment Dust" to weather prints. And while at the dollar store grab a "Kid Pack" of tiny assorted oil paint tubes - dilute with white spirit and make and oil wash that's 1000% better and easier to use than your traditional acrylic washes and in many more vibrant colors - splatter it everywhere and with a Q Tip dipped in pure white spirits just do a light cleaning on the areas you dont want it on and it come of clean without that "coffee staining" effect you get with acrylic washes. But if you still want to create tons and tons of custom colored washes check out "Black Magic Craft" on KZread (king of DIY dioramas and RPG Terrain) he has a whole video on making bulk "Black Magic Craft Wash" that's a 95%accurate clone of the washes Game's Workshop makes but with the option of making them custom colors (like the light blues/greens for a patina effect wash) by using cheap cheap cheap materials all sourced from Hobby Lobby/Michael's/Dollar Store. I'd REALLY love a collaboration video with you two since he's started to get into 3d printing of large terrain buildings and terrain scatter items (dumpsters/shipping containers/etc) for his own game boards a year or so back

@@JadedEvol a great printer to start with is the Longer3D Orange 10 resin printer. It's really cheap at around $200 (less sometimes when on sale) and a bottle of resin will set you back about $20-$30 depending on the color or effect you want. It's not the best resin printer, especially considering it's an MSLA machine, but it definitely gets the job done when you take the necessary safety precautions and maximize the small build plate's potential. You can get some really good, clean prints from it for relatively cheap. It's a good bridge between not having any kind of resin printer or using an FDM machine and buying something like an Elegoo or Anycubic machine

Dry brushing!!!! Better than any of these methods. So quick and easy and brings out the details 100x better than rub and buff. You can also control it much better, emphasize details more and layer it with colors. Also, ink washes are pretty quick and easy and great for certain effects.

  • @shamanfryd

Here in Florida I gave up on regular primers and just use a satin paint. Less fuzzy and your following layers of paint don't end up with the bottom layer bleeding in. I did a couple Cthulhu buddhas, one with black primer, one with black satin paint, and the one with the primer dulled out later gold paint so fast as it dried and multiple layers did not help. The one with satin spray paint held it's color and adhered very well.

Use an air brush, you can change nozzles, splatter one is good for speckled fx. Spray in a spray booth, not outside as wind can mess up the spray flow. Use liquid masking.

The spray paint is Montana Gold, they (Montana) also make a bunch of other models of rattlecans depending on material etc. Even though they're called Montana, it's actually a Spanish brand.

Once again a great tutorial! Can you tell us what primer to avoid, as I too live in FL & am wondering if that might be my problem when I paint helmets. BTW where in FL? I'd buy you a beer to thank you for all the help you provide:)

Was your dad impressed with your 3D works of art? The Mars 2 pro seems to be a great printer. I was able to get the earl bird preorder for Mars 3. Definitely a very useful video some great paint effects. And another awesome video as always.
