You can also have a meaty texture when you freeze and defrost it. In my opinion its more like a chicken nugget consistancy but i make tofu Karaage like that.

The boiled egg-mistake reminded me of the first time I went to Japan 10 years ago. I didn’t read or speak any Japanese then so every time I bought food at the supermarket felt like an adventure, haha. I remember one time buying what I thought was just regular bread-rolls but when I bit in to them they were filled with anko. “What is this?!”, haha. Another time, a couple of years later, I went to the supermarket looking for honey. I couldn’t remember the Japanese word for honey, but I remembered that it was “ha-something-mi-something” and thought “it’s a liquid from flowers, right?”, so I asked the staff “すみません、鼻水はどこですか?”. That went great, haha. I’m Swedish, but I live in Portugal right now (so we’re neighbors!). I don’t speak Portuguese, but the food is very similar to Swedish food so it’s easy to buy food here without knowing the language. Very different from when I was in Asia. But I kind of like that adventure of not knowing what you get though. It’s a good way to try new things because you can’t judge a food beforehand when you don’t know what it is. Sometimes if you know what it is, you might think “No, I don’t want that” even if you never tried it before. Especially if it’s something you traditionally wouldn’t eat in your home country. Anyway, thank you for the recipe on homemade instant miso! I will have to try it out! The other recipes looked good as well.

@@Celestials1aurora Well, I'm a bit of a loner, so that was part of it, and I had help from a stalker who gave me some excellent reasons to find somewhere else to be at first. For my first trip overseas, I went with a travel group, which was miserable for me. From there, I chose places to go that I was curious about, and traveled alone or with travel companions who were equally eager to explore (& okay with the occasional misadventures). Travel always comes with unanticipated challenges, and I'm not rich, so I approach each new adventure with a willingness to learn from the ways things go off the rails, and a focus on gathering great stories to share with others as I go. ☺️

I have been stalked too so I get that wanting to somewhere where they won't bother you.. was the travel group safe though? like was it well organized and not just everyone to each their own? idk but I havent experienced it so im not sure if it will be like that or more protected if its a foreign place and safety reasons yk. that's true I suppose that's why I might also be scared.. the challenges you might face in a foreign place without anyone you can trust is hard... you have a admirable look for this :') im so fearful of bad things happening if I traveled alone..

This was a delight to watch. I love miso soup and now have it every morning. I need to make more of the miso soup balls because they're so helpful. I don't have fried tofu or wakame, so they're pretty basic, but I can't imagine not having a meal without some nourishing soup. I've recently been changing my lifestyle and have lost unwanted pounds, and I owe a lot of my success to having a Japanese style breakfast with soup, tamagoyaki, vegetables (I include my homemade ferments like sauerkraut, too), salted salmon (had that for the first time yesterday - YUM!), and a small amount of rice. I am currently on a serious hunt for natto! I am not able to make it at home and I live very far away from a good Asian market. I miss being able to stock it in my freezer.

I love that you use simple and fairly easy to find ingredients, because I can find most (if not all) of them even if I am in an area that doesn't have an Asian market. I also like that you show so many different ways to use the same ingredients. These videos are so helpful and fun. Thank you for sharing these recipes with us!

Everything looks delicious!! You can also make tofu “meatier” by wrapping in several layers of paper towel, placing in a freezer bag and then freeze for a couple of days. Remove the tofu and allow it to thaw. The paper towels will absorb any water from the thawing. You can reward with fresh paper towels if needed and refreeze.

if you want to use less plastic, you can freeze the miso balls on a plate. when they are frozen you can put them in a tupperware without them being stuck together.

Love the instant miso soup. I wish she would make a product that taste like fish. I have never tasted fish so I can’t make something that taste like fish. That would be super helpful. I have no problem tasting things it’s just that I don’t eat meat. I substitute everything except for I can’t figure out what I should substitute bonito flakes for. :-)

I've seen dashi powder made from kombu (kelp) before, but that might be tough to find unless you order it online. I've also made kombu dashi before, but it wouldn't work for the dishes that use dashi powder alone...

@@readbyshelle Thank you I have found vegetarian oyster sauce and Vegetarian fish sauce and I’ll look for the kelp dashi. They make.Vegetarian chicken beef and vegetable broth but no vegetarian fish broth At least I’ve been able to find I have to drive an hour and a half to get to a store that has anything other than 12 for two dollar Ramen noodle packs with meat sauce :-). I make do but I really would like to taste the right flavor.

It might not work for every dishes, but I think that seaweed tastes a bit fishy. It's also salty and has this sea-like taste. I guess in some meals you could use it for the taste

You've made me hungry again, and I just had my dinner. These recipes are so yummy. One question: is there any replacement for cooking wine/sake? we don't have it here, is it still delicious if we skip using it? Thank you in advance.

I really love your recipes and hope you will share more with us :3 As I wanted to make the miso dama myself i wondered, what kind of fried tofu you used. It looked like super light deep fried tofu, did you buy it this way in an asian supermarket or did you fry the tofu yourself? Greetings from germany :>

when you use miso, is it white or red miso? I saw both in my local asian shop and wondered which one would be better for making miso soup. Your video is awesome btw!❤️ I'm going for a trip this weekend and using your recipes ^^

Hola! Me encanta tu vídeo. Sencillo, fácil, y útil para el día a día. Una pregunta: no acabo de identificar la Green onion en España...que verdura es aquí? La cebolla tierna no tiene estás tiras verdes y tiernas. Gracias!
