Rob, I don’t comment much, but I’ve been learning tons from you for about three years. Here’s the thing. If I’m not paying attention, I treat your lessons roughly the same as many of the other drumming channels I follow. I roll your stuff into my practices at about the same rate as drills from a few other great teachers on KZread. This is the inspiring quality of your lessons which sticks out though: you have staying power. Other drills fade away over time, while yours just stay in rotation, continuously helping me improve my drumming. So today I finally added you to my Patreon list. And I need to buy a shirt or something. What ever I do, it won’t be enough to repay you for making me a happier, more confident, capable, and musical drummer. Thanks, man.

Hi Rob! I'm a beginner drummer, started taking lessons about a month before the pandemic got out of control in March (now I take lessons via Zoom). Your channel has made a positive impact in my playing, really dig your content and look forward to hopefully one day sounding more like you do. I'm psyched that you have something lined up for September, good to have something to look forward to! (Hopeful that it'll be applicable for those of us that are still getting a good grasp of the fundamentals, but if not, I appreciate it anyway!)

First time hearing this kind of thing. Looked up possibly similar videos and found nothing. It makes sense, adding fills that meld with the groove unlike some fills that calls attention to themselves, potentially detracting from the music. Really cool! My favorite lesson from you yet.

I don't suppose you have written music for this anywhere?????? ranted I'm a rank green beginner here, but by the time I figure out what your doing your onto the next one. (So far I can only get two things keeping up, base/snare, or base hat, snare hat.) As soon as I try all three? OH MY GOD! My limbs don't know who to listen to yet. lol. You make it look so easy. I know... beginner. I'm still learning how to rid the bike and steer, keep balance, how do you stop now before I hit that tree? lol. I remember that. This will come but wow. I have a whole new level of respect for good drummers out there now.

Great to see another lesson up, in my book you are the best drum teacher out there. Just a thought, have you ever thought of putting a cam on your bass-drum foot for some of these lessons? I always work on the theory that if your bass foot is glued tight to whatever rhythmic feel you are going for, your hands can't not follow. There are couple of vids on here with Bernard Purdie that make brilliant use of this. Not over done, and not always on screen but there when you need it. Like I say, just a thought. I live in the remote woods of Europe, what is this Patreon thing of which you speak? Do you deliver Merch to Europe? If there is one drum teacher who should be able to make a living from online lessons, you are the one.

Loving all the stuff you do - it is MUCH valued and appreciated. Can I offer one little suggestion? Perhaps if your snare mic was moved closer to the hihat it would bring the hihat volume up a bit which I find is a bit low. Keep up the great lesson, I always look forward to them !

Rob just want to say you are a great teacher, very useful tasteful information. I love simplicity. My favorite drummers are Steve Gadd, and Steve Jordan. You remind me so much of both of them bc of your style. I have and continue to learn so much from you! Also caught you on Drumeo the other week. Awesome lesson. So many young drummers think they need to overplay to be good. Now I was one of those but with the band I’ve been in for the past 5 years simple is where it’s at. Check is out on Spotify or I tunes Paper Wasps, from Salisbury NC!! Keep up the good work!!

Starting those grooves in "1" is kind of hard. But if I start the groove in one of those late kicks... easy. It sounds the same after some seconds. The problem will be to integrate the groove between a regular beat like you do at the end. It needs to start in "1". Should I avoid this "method" at all costs? Thanks Rob

So had a drum lesson today, (guitar center) Bought some blank sheets to write music on. Took awhile but I have this all scribbled down.... YOU may think your going slow but wowza, until I learn what to hit when I have to go agonizingly slow. At least until I can keep up with you here. Showed this video to the instructor and he liked it, said this is good. Now.... while I was trying to get this down I noticed, you don't hit the high hat on every eight note. Depending on what else your playing, some... (4th one I noticed especially, the AND of 3 and 4 are skipped.) Sounds great but just wondering if that is intentional? You don't highlight the hat notes, just assumed your suppose to tap out all eight notes? Or.... as my painting teacher would say, don't make rules make art. So don't sweat every single beat just make music right?
