5 early issues with my Fisker Ocean One after delivery

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Some things to watch out for if/when you get your Fisker. I technically had a 6th issue where Fisker is awful at reaching out. From the random delivery, to no contact from my sales admin, to messed up taxes, to zero instruction on how to use the car, etc. *shrug
More videos coming soon on how well everything else DOES work.

The rust is a normal thing on the rotor, especially when the car is been sitting for a long time. I am a car hauler I have seen this so many times on the car at the port. When the cars arrive at the port or train yard it takes days, weeks, or months before they get shipped to the dealerships. The rust goes away after driving it for some time.

I came here to say this. XD rust on brakes is common. My room mate has a car that doesn’t get driven often enough and his brakes do eventually develop rust on the rotors.

rotor is rusty inside, where brake pads dont reach, so its early rust sign. its not on surface of brake pads, its inside rotors.. should not be here any rust for first 1 year of car at least...

The joys of being an early adopter - have been there with much bigger brands too in all new model launches - my UK based early 2020 build Land Rover Defender was never stranded anywhere but soooooooo many visits to the dealership to fix rattles and leaks, now I have a 2023 one it hasn’t been near the workshop since delivery on 24th March 2023, last one had 7 visits in the same time!

I’ve had my Fisker Extreme for about 2 months and I absolutely love it. You do have to push the unlock and wait 4 seconds and push it again to open. Hopefully this issue gets addressed in an OTA update but my vehicle came in pristine condition and I haven’t had any other issues. I love my Fisker and would absolutely purchase it again. I still think it’s by far the best looking EV out there right now.

Nice video! Got the same issues regarding the remote key fob; I don't usually use my keys when I drive my other vehicles, and my other cars automatically do what they are expected to do. And I never got the remote to unlock my Ocean in just one try 😢. My biggest gripe is that I don't get the options I added in my order and my advisor was so unresponsive and ghosted me after my loan got approved and they got the money.

We got our Fisker delivered a couple weeks ago and it’s been very frustrating. The key fob detection is so annoying! I have to press the unlock/lock buttons at least 4-6 times for it to actually react. The button on my key to open up the rear window doesn’t work. My air conditioning vents won’t open (I called them and they said that’s not supposed to happen). I was locked into the car for 15 minutes (the door handles on the inside and outside weren’t opening the latch. Very concerning in the event of an emergency). I hate how the settings don’t save such as the regenerative braking (I have to adjust settings every time I drive the car). My phone randomly disconnects from Bluetooth. Very glitchy infotainment system. Overall it’s not a car I like. I wish my dad waited to order it so they can figure out all the errors and glitches early on but hey, I guess we’re the Guinea Pigs.

I get rust on my rotors all the time, and even when new, Volvo C40 electric. You drive it a few miles and the rust will wear off with brake use. Thanks for this video, I had a deposit on the Ocean but wound up with the C40. The range is terrible at 225 miles and the panoramic roof, which doesn't open, is insufficiently UV protected. So it is a miserable experience recharging in the sun during road trips, especially when you have to make 5 recharging stops a day. Volvo now has a screen for the roof glass but are charging $400 for it! But why not put up some shade sails and a soda machine and trash cans around these DC fast charging stations? Now debating on either Volvo EX-30 or the PEAR to get better range. My Volvo dealer also didn't know anything about the car, even in the service department, but I am sure that will improve with time and luckily it hasn't needed any real service or repairs (1.5 years ownership so far). But they did rotate my tires, only for me to find out later that they are stacked width and cannot be rotated in any direction whatsoever. They should know that. I should not find out 150 miles into a roadtrip where I had to turn around and return to the dealer. Had they not also improperly DEFLATED the tires because they were basing the PSI on regular Volvos, I would not have had any occasion to see the on-screen manual's discussion of tires PSI and warning on rotation. It seems like your only issue with the Ocean that is a Fisker issue is the key fob. That is great! And their customer service will improve over time.

Thanks for the video, Adam, and I look forward to the next one. That Ocean looks great. Of the issues covered, only the brake rotors really concern me. The fob, I believe, is a battery issue (at least thats what I've read in forums). It should not have come that way, but hopefully minor (if indeed battery). Software bugs will get sorted out with updates (which has been the case with all new products). Yes, it should've come clean - but you weren't picking it up from a dealer and it had been through a tropical storm. But they should offer a free detail to you. Now the rotor surfaces, not sure what that is all about. Hope its not a problem. I do think people need to keep perspective on this brand new car from a brand new company. I think Adam has the right perspecitive, but so many people are going off the handle on every issue. There are going to be some hiccups, but that's to be expected. Hopefully software updates fix the wide majority of them, but I think the Ocean is a great looking vehicle and a welcome addition to the EV landscape. Just rode in one today, and it is so much nicer and better looking than the Tesla options (prepare for backlash), but let's hope Fisker invests in the customer support and service resources to manage these hiccups along the way.

The rust, or the battery is just a matter of time the car was waiting to be delivered. The dirt, is a matter of the dealer not giving it a detailing before delivery. So not many issues. My 2022 BMW m4 often doesn’t connect to apple car play. Often needs a restart engine for it to work. Just a software bug that is expected in any car.

I'd say the rust is because of pretty much all EVs and hybrid cars have regenerative braking (either one pedal driveish or that when you press the brake pedal it will regenerate (until you brake hard, then it will activate the brakes on the car)) and therefore the brakes are not exercised or even getting dried up after rain, unless you manually brake hard regularly (ie after rain or car wash). Some cars have built in feature to regularly make a slight push with the brake pads, just to exercise the brakes. Waiting for my Fisker Ocean I'm driving a VW Passat GTE plug in hybrid with the same issue. Brake disks were pretty much unused, but they were rusty so I hade to replace them and brake pads after 60k km.

I work in the auto industry and the rust is 100% normal. From the first time the brakes are used they will rust. Nothing you can do about that. When you brake the rust will get ground off by the pads. The metal drums or rotors can not have ANY anti rust protection on it due to the pads needing to be able to grip. If any oil, or any other coating touches the rotors the pads have a awful time slowing the car down. But my question to you because I really want to get a Fisker but if it breaks down or needs repair where the hell do you take it?

Why on earth would anyone buy a Fisker? Tesla gets roasted if panel gaps are like 1 mm off. But Fisker doesn't get roasted for these annoying problems? Good luck with getting OTA updates...and I see that Firestone is one of the contractors for servicing the car. Hahahaha they couldn't even do my brake job right. Yeah good luck with this car lol.

I’m getting really concerned now. I’m one of the guys that out down $5k and am awaiting delivery. Based on what I’ve seen, these cars seem like poor quality all around. Henrik Fisker spent 2 years to designed a piece of garbage. With all the price drops from Tesla, it’s going to be very difficult to sell many of these unless they can improve quality elsewhere new orders will dry up quick

  • @adamninja

    @adamninja

Don't be too concerned. It's definitely not garbage. The car is actually amazing. There's just some drastic quality control and staffing that Fisker needs to bite the bullet and support. I have only had one phone call since taking delivery, and it's only because I answered a survey saying the delivery sucked. I have no idea when or if my plates will show up, where my registration is, how to go get service, how to sign up for a Fisker class to learn how to use everything, etc. All you end up with is a chat and a string of open cases via email.
