Windermere! Wow! Taylor swift has a song named "The lakes" and there she mentioned "Those windermere peaks look like a perfect place to cry!" That's one of my favourite song of her!
Just back today from 3 nights in Ambleside. I used buses and they are very frequent between the major towns of Keswick, Kendal, Grassmere and Ambleside. I went up Bowness and the buses there were less frequent but enough to do a days hike in the langdale area. Same with going up old man of coniston. A three day multi bus ticket cost £27 and although it’s generally for the lakes, you can get as far as Newcastle in the east or Chester in the south ! Obviously a car is a better luxury , and you can get out as early and come back whenever at your convenience. Bus advantage is , you don’t pay parking fees and they are pretty well on time and all them places you have been were just as accessible via public transport.

Thank you. The Lake District is such a beautiful place. I so enjoyed your excellent video! Georgia, USA.
The entire north west is beautiful, from the cheshire countryside to the large cities of Liverpool and Manchester, to yet more beautiful countryside and the forest of Bowland, pockets of the Yorkshire Dales and Lancaster, then finally up into Cumbria with the lake district and Solway coast. Beautiful part of the country.

Disagree with cheshire. Lived there many years and 95% of it is just intensive farmland, a green desert. Cumbria and Lancashire have some breath-taking landscapes whereas cheshire only has a few small pockets of beauty left. Chester is a nice town, thats probably cheshires biggest attraction. I dont think that yorkshire counts as north west though.

Hello from Outback Australia...we really enjoyed this video, such stunning scenery and your story telling was entertaining and informative. Thankyou for the tips!
Just a quick tip to any new hikers. Don’t rely on internet apps for navigation unless you are staying close to urban areas. Always take a proper map and compass (and learn how to use them) as there are large parts of the lake district that have no cell coverage. Enjoyed the vlog by the way of one of my favourite places on Earth.

That’s excellent advice. Also to pack an extra set of warm clothes, torch light, lighter, compact Swiss Army knife and food in case of an emergency. And always inform someone where you’ll be heading to, what time you’ll be back and work out a contingency plan in case you become uncontactable.
By far this is the best Lake District vlog I have seen. Beautiful
Love the Lake District - Keswick is my favorite
On my one and only trip to the UK several years ago, we spent a day in the Lake District and went via bus. I was so glad not to be driving on the wrong side of the road! Also, it really is nice to be able to focus all your attention on the scenery instead of the road. In Grasmere, I happened upon an absolutely delightful little restaurant and discovered STICKY TOFFEE PUDDING. To this day, I've never had anything so delicious. I've tried looking up the name of the place and have never been able to verify. I'd love to go back to the Lake District. Every scene is like a postcard.

Some interesting historical facts - although originally Celtic the Lake District was heavily settled by Norwegian Vikings during the Middle Ages, and they left their stamp on everything from place names to valleys lakes and mountains, therefore the place names take on a Scandinavian flavour with Fell marking hills/mountains, Dales for valleys and Mere for lakes as in the Scandinavian languages and English which is heavily Scandinavian influenced. Places like Ullswater Bowness and Windermere are typical of those place names
The most beautiful place on earth in my opinion.

@@jimgerace 5 nights plenty time to wet your appetite to re-visit the Lakes. I would recommend Ambleside for a number of reasons. When you have finished exploring around the lakes Ambleside is ideal for a gentle stroll round. It has for a small town an amazing amount of things to look at, and you can do it slowly over several days. Grasmere has the famous Ginger Bread and a number of things to look at, but a nice walk there and catch the bus back. Not sure if your self catering but a world wide choice of food in the various restaurants. Walking hikes are very easy from Ambleside the Tourist Info are the best places if you’re not sure. I’m not sure of your walking experience up hills etc, but I would definitely recommend for a nice easy challenge it to walk up Cat Bells 451m from Keswick approx 30min drive. Catch a ferry across and start your walk, utube has many views from Cat Bells and the views are truly amazing with Blencathra 866m and Skiddaw 931m. Hope you enjoy it 👍😎👍

Another 2 tips when hiking the fells. 1) DON'T EVER rely on an app. "I lost my connection" isn't much cop as an excuse when you get stuck up a fell, with no idea where you are. ALWAYS take an ordnance survey map! 2) When high on the fells, you'll notice a lot of sheep roaming wild. The problem is, that where you find sheep, they'll likely be affected by sheep ticks. Now sheep are quite practical when it comes to dealing with ticks, and they'll very often rid themselves of them by rubbing against local greenery and even against dry stone walls. Well guess what? the ticks are quite hardy and don't give up that easily, and will quite probably attach themselves to the next animal that brushes past them, even if that animal is a human. So, don't convince yourself that shorts are a really good idea when walking on the fells. To be perfectly safe, wear a pair of trousers, (and keep your bare arms clear of any greenery,) unless you want to be the next host to a sheep tick, and make yourself a possible victim of Lyme disease!

You say the roads are easy, but that is only because you stuck to the main roads. There are plenty of narrow, often single track, roads that can be very hard work, but lead to many fantastic places that you probably were unaware of. The Lakes is my second home. Being only 50 miles away I visit quite regularly (if restrictions allow). My tip for Aira Force which you visited would be to skip the main car park by Ullswater. Head up the A5091 just after the main car park and use the Aira Force High Cascades Car Park. Quieter if you get there earlier and the walk down the falls instead of up is miles better.
