Good stuff Dead Eye! Well Done. I'd especially applaud 'go new places.' All too often I've seen folks go from just the local clubs to regional and national matches and be disappointed in how they did. All because they were use to 'the same old same old' as far as distances etc. Some may flame me for it, but when I hear folks at regional and national matches complain that the targets were too far, I can't help but think that they didn't train well enough. Keep up the good work. - Grizz

Let’s get some set up videos on your rigs! Maybe some gear breakdowns. And If you use a “screwdriver knife”! I’m new to this sport so I’d like to get an entire back to basics series. I love your presentation and enthusiasm and willingness to share knowledge. Thank you

I just shot today with my cowboy action club. In Maui Hawaii. Everything you said makes sense I had three clean stages. Out of five. Thanks for your tips 😜

Thanks for another great video! This year is my year for getting my head in the game. Had too much going on in my start with CAS, to really make it happen. This year, though.

I fail miserably at #4. But I am improving on it drastically! I only beat myself up after the stage instead of during. It is a process.

I'm looking to collaborate with some good duelist here in the near future! As for shotgun belts, alot of people around here are running Colt Faro's. It uses some kind of canvas like loops. Mine is from Persimmon Dan and is all leather. What ever you go with just make sure you like the loops and where they sit as well as reloads for your rifle.

retired folks, young no kids can shoot other places. I agree with what you're saying...but this damned thing called work keeps getting in teh way LOL. As match director I try to do 3 stand and 3 move, 3 old and 3 new style, 2 of us write stages so that varies it, we add 2-3 new props each year, and love to challenge folks. "targets are too small/far away"....so we had everyone shoot a playing card at 15 yards...EVERYONE hit the card. Flying targets (water bottles, pidgeons), texas star, bowling pins (aka whisky bottles). Shoot from the hip stages - very few misses and times are still good. 1/4 of our shooters are under 18. Few travel to state matches (though many have in the past)

I've been a black powder reenactor/shooter since my middle 20's (late 1970s). My "personae" has been a "longhunter/frontier rifleman." I am now a "senior." My interest is cowboy action shooting. I've chosen a personae of a late 1860s army scout using a Henry 44-40 rifle and carrying two New Army 1858 .44 Remington revolvers (black powder). I want to use the "cavalry draw," so, I carry the pistols with the barrel facing backwards, grips forward. The SASS rules indicate that this carry/draw method is okay. (For authenticity with my character, I'm using the standard Remington 7.5-inch barrel, much longer than usual short-barrel fast draw Colts I've seen used at SASS events.) Do you have any recommendations on fast draw using the "cavalry draw"? I would appreciate any advice you can offer.

I’d love to get into this sport, but I have no equipment. It would cost a lot of money to buy all the guns, ammo, and clothing to get started. Could I enter competition with only a pair of revolvers?and which 2 revolvers would you recommend?

The Ruger Vaquero is definitely the workhorse of cowboy action, though Colt's and other Colt clones can be tuned to run very well in our sport. I used USFA Rodeos for years before switching to Rugers.

@@DeadEyeCowboyActionShooting awsome ill look into it. Also, what barrel length should be used?

That sir is completely subjective. Some like a little more weight out front or the extra sight radius of a longer barrel, some like the way a shorter barrel handles. Best thing to do is handle some to see what fits you best. Good luck in your search!
