In this video Gaz shows us his 5 favourite features within the new Moog Grandmother Analogue Synthesizer and even hooks up a bass guitar to show us how this cool modular synth can interact with external instruments.
The Moog Grandmother analogue synth captures all the nuances of original analogue modular synthesizers yet packs it into a fun and easy to use, highly playable keyboard.
The Moog Grandmother really encourages an enjoyable playing experience for newcomers to the world of modular synthesis but is extremely capable of providing highly complex sounds and modulation without the need for patching, too!
In addition the Moog Grandmother includes a fully featured Audio and MIDI/USB IN/OUT interface for direct-to-DAW recording and programming. Best of all you can hook up an external audio source like a bass guitar, drum machine or any other line level instrument and run the instruments through the powerful filter section within the Grandmother making it a powerful workstation.

Great low end bass, lead solo high end. Unlimited patching possibilities. Keyboard is the best, sturdy, perfect tension. Never getting rid of this one. Built like a tank

I don't even think I'd switch it for the Matriarch. I don't wanna let go of that spring reverb tank. I use it for other instruments as well
I love the enthusiasm by the presenter.
This was the only example of a bass plugged into a synth I was able to find. Sustained notes are what I'm curious about ... Guess I'll have to run this experiment myself(!)
I love my grandmother 💙
Very cool! I want one!
Got mine open box ...its great for drones for me and sample and hold

It can really do it all. It’s crazy how it can excel at gnarly, noisy, drones all the way to ambient. Then from searing or soft leads to deep and thumpy bass. One of the best mono synths ever made imo.
I think I need a Grandmother in my life!🎹

LOVE this video
I'm in love with this grandmother.
Great video, truly great instrument.
You really showed it very, very well. The sound you made around 8:00 was fantastic.
Glad to see that Scrooge McDuck is endorsing MOOG instruments!
Nice bit of twin peaks that was around 10 mins in. :)
This thing is freakin sick
Looking at putting together a first time setup. BTW does midi in/out mean that it could act as a midi controller for a home studio too?

You could use it as a controller, but not all of the knobs transmit CCs and the keyboard is only 2.5 octaves, so not sure how practical it is for that. It is an awesome synth though!

@anthony patterson Its monophonic and you can adjust the octave of the keyboard.
fk yah man!!! im sold ty. your a monster!
KILLER!

10:10 ... It’s Stranger Things soundtrack !
Does the grandmother emulate brass instruments and percussion /drum?

Sort of. There are ways to patch/filter to get something that might sound like it, but it's not it's main feature/function.
STOOOOOPPPPPP saying killer!
Is there anything in this guy's life that is ordinarily alright? And not awesome?

It's called enthusiasm :D We all used to have it back in the days, but it's become rather rare lately.
I heard no sonic example of anything worth using in a song. I think it's so easy to get caught up with features, and we forget why we parted with nearly one thousand pounds. The clock feature is not very intuitive to link with other gear (mother 32 in my experience), and seems glitchy and unstable. The rate control in the sequencer is flawed; the tempo is glitchy and you can't fine tune the tempo in certain areas. Very poor indeed! No one at moog seems to know their products - especially regards linking units. Might sell both Grandmother and mother 32 and buy a mini korg poly synth. Oh, and only being a mono synth has it limitations. Plus it's small, which means it's fairly useless to use live. It's essentially a box that make stupid noises, but with perseverance you can find sound that may be useful. Connecting pedal and an amp can control the harshness and excessive bass without losing the character of the tone... A lot of faffing around!

I use mine for being creative in the studio and a lot of the features I enjoy are only available thru patching. I think it's worth it for what I use it for, but there are 2 things: #1 I wouldn't purchase it if it was more than £900 and #2 If you're looking for a synth to use live, this isn't for you. Yes, the arpeggiator and sequencer are useful but there are better ones out there on synths with more keys.
I can barely understand what he is saying... Nice vid tho
