Daniel Fisher, Sweetwater's Moog maniac, celebrated Bob Moog's birthday with a journey to the Moog Factory in Asheville, NC for an extensive behind-the-scenes look at the care and craft that goes into each synth they make. Along the way we were struck by the astounding breadth of knowledge and sheer passion every member of the Moog family pours into their work. Bob Moog's legacy lives strong in the hands of these artisans and the musicians who play the instruments they construct!

I got to meet Robert Moog an NAMM a year before he died. I was working for Suzuki Musician Instruments USA and Moog's booth was across the aisle from us. Mr. Moog was all alone in their booth so I went over and spoke to him for about 30 minutes. He was so nice and humble. I was impressed and very sad to hear of his death.

God bless these employees! It truly makes me proud knowing these beautiful interments are still made in the USA! I hope that every young American who’s said you didn’t care if something is made in the USA or by slaves overseas will look at the faces in this video! When you say you don’t care if you buy American made products, these are the people you are taking food from!

The Matriarch is definitely a gift that the modern day Moog company has given to all of us. We are not only able to work with oscillators and filters that were on the original modulars from the 60s and 70s, we can even play chords on it! I bought my mine last month at the factory in Asheville, and a visit there is a seriously amazing experience. The people who work there are genuine, and well invested, both literally and figuratively, in this world of synthesis, and what I can only imagine as Bob Moog’s vision for his instruments. I’m sure he would be so proud if he could see where the company has progressed to these days. I feel so satisfied in supporting Moog with my purchase, and I have gotten an absolutely invaluable instrument that is honestly changing the way I view making music.

It's nice to live near Moog in Asheville. They are the real deal and comprised from people of the area. I adore my VoyagerXL and it's quite honestly the nicest peice of furniture I own. Whats more, it sounds glorious and I know it was made with pride. Each time I enjoy it, it helps remind me that someone nearby, got to pay some bills and feed their family with the purchase. A lot of this Moog stuff is simply a work of art and a part of American history. Thank you for the tour. What you see is what you get. Asheville is defnitely a unique town. Long live Moog music!

Thanks Mr Fisher for taking the time and putting focus on a NC employee-owned American Musical Icon. I recently discovered the impact Wendy Carlos/Keith Emerson had on Moog's evolvement. Wendy Carlos's listening abilities I discovered thru Bo Tomlyn years ago and Mr Emerson I think helped also bring it to awareness to the masses. Some years ago, before the factory updates I was thrilled to also have a tour of the facility and always was honored for the opportunity...(Thanks Ms Linda) Actually while I was there Chick Corea called in to converse with his contact... icing on the cake!!! Originally from NC, Asheville is one of my favorite places and also very fortunate to have an event I've performed at there for the last 20+ years... always a treat. Very appreciative of the commitment, pride, dedication, and quality control of the Moog (Made in the USA) staff that makes it happen. yes...even though I presently have virtual Moogs....A Moog One is on my wishlist!!!! Thanks Again and Best Wishes

Thank you Daniel Fisher of Sweetwater Sound for your video production "Behind The Scenes Tour Of The Moog Factory". It reminded me of when I visited the Martin Guitar Factory in Nazareth, Pa. The products are only as good as the team that assembles them. I liked your one on one interviews with members of the Moog team. Your video was inclusive of all aspects of the factory production and very enjoyable to watch. The polyphonic MOOG ONE and your video has rekindled my interest in Moog products. Please continue to produce your videos - you are a highly respected player and instructor in the electronic keyboard industry. Of course Bob Moog would have been proud to see the current status of the company and so would my keyboard idol - Mr. Keith Emerson.

Very nice tour, Daniel! Your presentation and professionalism, coupled with your actual love and knowledge of Moog synthesizers, makes for a quality video. It doesn't hurt that all the individuals you spoke to, were genuine and had good stuff to say. It's hard to do a tour in the sense that you can end up with too much info or too little, y'all at Sweetwater seem to do a good job of finding a solid middle ground between the two - lively and entertaining, yet, under 30 mins. Personally, I have no experience with Moog instruments, except that I love the heck out of 'em and have appreciated their sound(s), well before I knew what they were. I've messed around with the occasional VST plugin clone but never been hands on with one. It's an amazing thing that Moog is still around and still takes pride in making the best quality instruments they can make with the same intentions as Bob Moog set out to achieve. They may have retired some models but it looks like that's only to bring forth, new instruments. Happy Birthday, Bob Moog, thanks for opening up a world of (nearly) endless, musical possibilities!
