I only have experience with Scarlett 2i2 (previous gen) and SSL2. Scarlett was one of my first interfaces - like many. Widely available and an easy pickup for anyone just starting out and, thus, unable to tell the difference with higher end stuff. My current fav from this lineup is the SSL2 - I love the sound and it has enough clean gain to power dynamic mics. For me, the Scarlett, like many budget interfaces, fall apart after 60% of max gain - which just isn't enough to power good dynamics like SM7B or RE20. Granted, I've moved on to using the Zoom F6 for 32-bit float recording.

Thanks for sharing your experiences! It's clear the SSL2's clean gain suits your needs better than the Scarlett. Your move to the Zoom F6 for 32-bit float recording sounds like a wise upgrade. Happy recording!

So which was the best? I've heard scarlett interfaces. Dude the Core I Solo for how cheep it may be even the 2I2 well at least sound quality wize almost sound like the F recorders. I was like what? Am I hearing that right? As for Motu I've heard the M8 or 8M. Love that sound. I've not heard an NT1 into a Motu M8 though. To me that's the refrence as I know what well the NT1-A sounds like on a $4000 Sound-Devices 744-T recorder and yo that was for 18 year old me the dream team. A 722 maybe then and a pair of matched NT1-A's in ORTF. @@Audio-Zone

I thought it was too. As a broadcaster/voiceover girl I am getting frustrated with the amount of VO work given over to AI these days. As a IT/web services girl too - I am annoyed when the script isn't tweaked to get words right such as DAW and MIDI in this one.

If this is for budget interfaces, why not instead mention the Scarlet Solo which is the budget model from Focusrite and one of the best selling interfaces. And the Minifuse 1, which is the budget interface from Artutria. Also, why not mention the even more budget and very popular iRig interfaces, including the one that came out in 2023 that costs $80 and is very solid.

A least couple of these have a codec that outputs a bunch of crap above 30KHz.
