I SO appreciate hearing from a professional what tends to look good or not good on more than 90% of people. My sister in law told me in 1992 that I “need to stop the 80’s hair thing”. I was a bit insulted in that moment, but a couple months later when I got a new haircut/style and endless compliments, I was THANKING her! Making suggestions is NOT being arrogant…it’s being HELPFUL! ❤

Licensed stylist here who’s been watching you for a few years… I love your honest and clear explanations of these haircuts and styles. The ppl making ugly comments are being a bit too general and just don’t understand how tailoring a not so great short style can make it much more flattering to the eye. Ps- I love the amount of detail you go into. Some of us love a visual with a thorough explanation and don’t want you to “get to the point”. That comment was not speaking for the rest of us who don’t want our hair chopped up carelessly. Thanks for making quality content with your own flavor added👍 👍

Thank you so much! I truly appreciate this. I find stylists can be the hardest on their peers. So I always take hairstylists support deeply to heart! I’m really glad you appreciate the deeper explanations. That’s the way I learn so it ends up being the way I teach. I totally get that it isn’t for everyone but I do think, it’s a better route to ensure that people understand the why instead of just the what.

Hi Justin, Thanks for a great video detailing how subtle changes can make a big difference in various "bob" cuts. I don't find you arrogant, personally, I appreciate your direct and detailed nature. Since I am growing my hair out and looking to change it up a little for fall I was looking for ideas and watched this video, and was glad I did. You provided the details I was looking for in a few cuts I would not consider without the changes you suggested (with the why included), so thanks for that! I found a great cut and color combination in the video as inspiration to bring with me to the salon next week. If people do not like the content, they are free to move on to another video 🤣🤣🤣

I love the way you explain everything in detail-that’s how all teachers should be. I’m not a professional stylist but in all walks of life, you learn more by explaining in detail. There is nothing worse than going into a job not knowing everything that it entails. And, yes, you do not have to watch these videos. I do believe (whether you agree or not on his methodology) you probably learned “something”.

It’s funny, I received a comment from someone a couple of weeks ago, saying how terrible I was, and how stupid the video was, etc. When I clicked on their profile, I realized they also have a KZread channel. I quickly responded with “your opinion is yours, that’s fine. The sad part is someone who has their own channel likely knows how hard it can be to put yourself out there. It’s unfortunate that you feel the need to be so rude about it”. Within less than five minutes that comment was taken down by the original poster. Once people realize that you have the ability to respond to them, it’s funny how often they get very quiet about their very loud opinions! Lol.

Thank you, Justin. I appreciate your expertise. I have been wearing a graduated Bob style for years and receive many compliments. The question I have is how do you grow out a bob that went a little wonky? My hair stylist tried something he called a "little different" a couple of months ago, and it seems a little more fuller and looks a little bouffant when it's blown out. I like the front blown down, and it's being blown back. I'm trying to wait for the cut at the nape to grow a little longer, but it started to flip in the back while the angle in the front is getting longer. Hope that I explained it clearly.

But the way you explained the bob made total sense. The thing i loved in this video is that you took the styles that we would ask for and showed us how to get what we want but so much better. I just went to a new stylist that did the exact same thing and I'm so happy with my cut. If she'd given me what I asked for without explaining why she thought i should modify it, I would have been so unhappy. She was very experienced and she was right. She wasn't pushy and I know she would have cut it my original way if I had insisted but she had valid explanations.

My hair used to be thick enough to layer but with age it has become too thin to layer. For the last haircut I got, it was recommended that instead of making a front downward slope, that as you say requires layering, I should get a slight U-shape front and no layers. Well I was sceptical lol, but why not try it. It looked amazing! So could you please include discussions regarding thinning hair? Thanks for your expertise and excellent explanations.

I have plenty of length but I'm thinking it needs to come off! I also have a full face:/ so there's that as well! Please give the thin haired gals a little advice, PLEASE???

I've been doing hair since 1979, & I agree with your assessment on the Bob haircuts. Unfortunately a lot of the "younger" generation of hairstylists assume they know better than the rest of us! The attitude I've always had in the industry is that, you're never too old to learn something new, or old in some cases, & if you think that you know it all.. then it's time to find a new profession! Kuddos to you for your amazing contributions to all of us! Thank you! Miracurls

I found a good hairdresser but she treated me like a number, whisked me in and out, and could never remember who I was, even mistaking me for someone else and telling me to leave, when I had just booked the appt about an hour earlier. So I just can’t go back to her. When you’ve had me in your chair multiple times for 30-45 minutes each time, but you can’t ever remember who I am, it’s rather insulting. I’m a person, not a number. Thank you for the excellent tips.

I’m sorry that you were treated so poorly! No person should be ignored or treated so inappropriately! Even if you’re a difficult client, you “kill them with kindness!” Unless you have caused some serious faux pas ! It’s there loss, and reputation at stake, & if they continue to treat clients like this, it will get out, and it will hurt their business in the long run! Sounds to me that you’re the lucky one! Ask around! Word of mouth is the best advertisement! ❤

Justin you are the number one stylist I listen to, besides the fact I love when your wife pops on! I have learned so much from you. I cut my own hair so I appreciate all these tutorials. We learn. If I lived near you I definitely would let you cut my hair and that is big for me. Since a stylist ruined my hair over 25 years ago I never let anyone touch my hair and went in a huge mission to teach myself to - but you I’d trust so keep these vids coming. I love them. And keep talking a lot so we understand. You are really cool! 😊

2:28 I love how in depth you explain haircuts. I like to understand the why behind them. Being one who has had more than my fair share of bad haircuts, it helps me explain better the end result I'm after. Not every stylist runs their fingers through your hair. They just start whacking. Or I should say hacking away. Been butchered way too many times. And I still paid. 😢

Thanks for this video and your suggestions. My hair was cut into an all-one-length straight bob at my request. I see now that a layered bob will be more flattering to my oval shaped face, especially because I curl the ends I appreciate your examples in this video because you show different options. Not all of us look good in the same type of bob haircut. You have shown us the changes we can make. If someone doesn’t like the bob haircut at all, they can move on to a different video.

As a woman over 55 , a short hair do is easer to maintain for me. And yes it’s a bob style , with layers which helps me to give my fine hair volume and not look flat and drab. I personally find it versatile, pin up the front, let it curl or dry it straight ! A different do every day of the week! Never boring LoL😊

These tips and ideas are to explain the “why” behind what we see. Justin, I don’t think you should even read the negative comments. Even if one doesn’t agree with your opinion - you are helping us understand why things look “off or too heavy or too anything” in general. It’s not about agreeing with what looks good or bad. It’s about explaining why each cut looks so different. Adjusting angles and layering and how it changes the shape, texture etc. These videos are for learning!!! It’s not man-splaning. It’s teaching!!! Please don’t let these negative comments dictate how you teach. People click on to see YOU. If someone doesn’t like your method they leave and never return. Thank you so much for your time 😊

Short/tight stacked back, slightly longer, layered sides that are ever so slightly bowed in the middle & almost straight on the ends. I completely agree with your advice Justin. 😉 I recently cut off over half my hair, went back to a bob haircut, and I get tons of compliments from complete strangers wanting to know who cut my hair. My bob does not fall into those "don't do" categories. Just like the “wash, set and spray” set will always be around, so will someone who “disagrees”. I’ve always admired haircutters/stylists (I don’t know the preference). They’re creating living art under a time constraint. Who else does that? The more detailed explanations you give the more consumers understand, have their eyes trained and can have something to show a cutter/stylist what they want. Insure your hands, keep cutting and explaining.❤
