5 BEST Modular Helmets of 2023 | FortaMoto.com
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
If you were to ask me, then these would be the 5 best modular helmets for 2022 - 2023, most of which are ECE 22.06 certified and thus ready for the future. Every head has a different shape and every motorcycle helmet has a different fit. One flip up helmet will be different to the next, and they won’t always match every rider or every type of bike.
When looking for a new modular helmet, you always want to make the best possible choice. Naturally it’s your aim to ride around as long as possible with your new skidlid. Your new helmet also has to fit comfortable and meet your personal demands. We often get the question: ‘which modular helmet is best for me?’.
We’re going to go through some of the specifications to give you a good idea of what the helmets are capable of. I’ll also share my opinion with you on some of the features and benefits of the helmets. By the end of this review video you’ll know which modular helmet is best for you.

Scorpion EXO-TECH EVO CARBON - 0:58
This hybrid helmet from Scorpion is made from fibreglass and carbon fibre, making the shell strong and lightweight at the same time. This helmet features a chin bar that can rotated all the way to the back of the helmet, but it also comes with a sun visor and a Pinlock anti-fog lens.
Get the Scorpion EXO-TECH EVO here:
www.fortamoto.com/brands/scor...
LS2 Advant - 4:23
Polycarbonate? Not exactly. The LS2 Advant has a KPA outer shell, which basically translates to polycarbonate mixed with fibreglass. This helmet is a bit cheaper than the Scorpion EXO-TECH, making it more accessible for riders with a tighter budget.
Get the LS2 Advant here:
www.fortamoto.com/motorcycle-...
Shoei Neotec II - 7:18
The allrounder from 2018 is still pretty much leading the race in 2023! This helmet has a very pleasant fit, it’s compatible with nearly every rider and it can even be custom fitted with the Shoei Personal Fitting System.
Get the Shoei Neotec II here:
www.fortamoto.com/brands/shoe...
AGV Tour Modular - 10:34
This flip up helmet from AGV is maybe the most technical one we've seen so far. The aerodynamic specs are based on the MotoGP wind tunnel tests, making this helmet very stable at high speeds.
Get the AGV Tour Modular here:
www.fortamoto.com/brands/agv-...
Schuberth C5 - 13:41
The C5 is often classed as ‘the quietest modular helmet’. This version isn’t only quiet, it’s also very light thanks to the fibreglass outer shell that has been reinforced with a layer of carbon fibre. The Schuberth C5 is fully prepared for the Sena SC2 system.
Get the Schuberth C5 here:

Choosing helmets can be quite a dilemma, head size (fit), noise reduction, earphone compatibility etc etc. Best bet is to ask around, try them on at a reputable outlet and make your own mind up. Personally especially with modular style helmets it’s all of the above all rolled up into as close as you can get that will (if it does it’s job right) keep you alive in a crash situation where your head meets the road after the rubber has left it. What suits one person will not be suited to the next. Personally I ended up with a Nolan style modular where 5 months ago I high sided at around 65km/ph landing directly on my head, the helmet did its job hence I went back to another Nolan. But definitely try before you buy, trust me your life literally depends on it.
Getting the chin bar all the way back is genius. If Arai made one I’d pay any amount
I have a Neotec 2 and love it. The snug neck fitting keeps me warm in winter. The ratchet chin strap is quick to fit, it's metal not plastic so is not a weak point like other brands. It is a bit on the heavy side so it would be nice if Shoei branched into carbon helmets. I had a Schuberth previously and although a great helmet it's rounder shape allowed excessive wind noise in.
@roadwarrior8560
Жыл бұрын
The chin strap has never been a weak point, metal clasp or otherwise, Shoei's chin strap is a bit too short, the weak point in a modular helmet is the hinge and latch mechanism, they are all less safe than a proper FF helmet, they are good for touring and commuting though, motorcycling is risky anyway, you make your choice and take your chances.
Got the X-lite 1005 Ultra Carbon - great helmet with top features.
I love my LS2. Very comfortable and convenient. Added bonus is that it allows me to don and remove while wearing glasses. I've owned several different makes/styles of helmets over the years and this is the best I've found for me.

Looks like they no longer carry the LS2 brand at all.
Agree with you concerning the only 2 shell sizes on the Schuberth. Purchased the C4 small and even with the thinnest cheek pads it was to tight, now own the C5 large with the thickest pads and its to big. Wished they offered the C5 without the communications system which would lower the price and since I already had a Cardo. Also you can't intergrade the the 2 systems in the helmet. They call it a quiet helmet which I always find subjective, to me it's still to loud on a naked bike and I do wear ear plugs.
I have the Schuberth C5. It's super quiet and light weight. My only complaint is I had to file down the two nubs on the visor a little bit to get it to shut all the way.
Very nice presentation!
Thanks for the video. 😃👍 Re. the Scorpion Exotic carbon, you said it probably works best for those on tour bikes, scooters etc. and then you said ' it's probably not the helmet for you if you are going long distances'. Isn't that what you do when you go touring? Could you please explain why you think it may not be suitable for touring, as I really like the idea of a carbon helmet where the chin bar goes to the back of the helmet. I don't know why all the manufacturers don't do that, as there would be less wind resistance whilst riding and they also look much better. Maybe Shoei and Schuberth might come up with one!
I have the AGV sport carbon modular, expensive but completely worth it. Very quiet and works great with Cardo/JBL 50mm speakers.

Would you recommend the helmet you have riding a cruiser bike? I will be more upright. Thank you
Listen up Shoei, you need to make a new Neotec with an adjustable peak, carbon construction, a slightly enlarged eye port and integration for Sena and Cardo. The new Shuberth E2 will be my next lid.
Threw a 'like' to you because of detailed description of features. What is missing, for me, is 'head shape' information. I have worn Shoei since venting was two 'dots' on my forehead. For now I ride with a Shoei Air GT and would like to update my kit. Does a Scorpion fit the same head shape as the LS2... as an example. I know I can buy a Neotech that will fit. What are my other options given my 'Shoei' head shape.
Looking forward to the 2023 full face Top5
AGV Sportmodular should be there too. Its a freaking excellent helmet!

Just purchased a new HJC i100 and it’s as good if not better than the Shark evo3, and the Valiant LS2. It meets all the standards you mentioned, sad you didn’t include that one in your review.
Good video but I have a question everyone forgets about. With the use of the speed release chin strap, do any of the helmets have a “D” ring to attach to a motorcycle helmet lock?
Long Oval shell/head shapes ? Weight for a Large and XL ? Return privilege ? Snell 2020 approvals possible (or still not done the way the Arai 3/4 helmet obtained approval) ?
Still rocking my Scu C3 Pro
Once you try modular you’ll never go back. I’ve got a cheap $200+ Sedici modular with BT etc and it’s perfect. Great to cruise in the city or beach with it open - then higher speeds to close. Folks you don’t need to spend $1,000 for a nice modular.
Neotec 2 is so old now, it's time they updated it and got rid of that stupid sena cutout.

I owned the Shuberth C5 and though i like the way it fit MY head.. i have a big issue with visor.. think for price it's weak.. I like to ride with my visor up if I have glasses and the Visor will just fly shut at high speeds (about 75 - 80 MPH) - I also Got the cardo and replaced the built in speakers and Mic. But it is confortable... for me.
Adding my 2 cents to all comments :) Each head is specific and one helmet some may find perfect may not fit others. I really like HJC however their modular don't fit me: either too small or too large. Shoei are great but my glasses can't stay at the right place. Arai works perfectly though but for touring I don't like the fact they don't want to have a sun visor (I understand their logic about security though). I only use mine on track. AGV sportmodular disappointed me a lot and I'm trying to get rid of mine. I prefer my E1. Noise: I now always wear ear plugs but anyway I never found a quiet helmet Weight: as long as the helmet is well balanced I personally don't think it matters and I don't pay attention to it My advice: try a few helmets before buying one. It needs to be comfy, you must like it and it needs to have the options you want. Talking about options I find annoying that the manufacturers are trying to force us with their comm solution. I have a pair of cardo bold and I'm sticking to them. Especially now that cardo is offering a mounting kit allowing to equip all my helmets with it
I have a Shark Evo one 2 helmet (Grey) that I love, I even got a second one (Red) with no communication system. They look so much like the LS2 Advant. I find them warm in summer, but so much better with the front going all the wayi back. I have donne 3 Iron Butt rides with it and I am really impressed.

Missing my fave. It’s the Hjc Rhpa 90s carbon in the Ballion edition. So quite, can take it on and off while wearing glasses. Light as a feather, 1530g in a large. I hope HJC can do a carbon version of the new Rhpa 91. I personally refuse to buy a 4lb lid after experiencing the 3.3 lb 90s carbon. I know there is the new ece spec, I hope that’s not the end of light helmets.

Can you start doing high temp ventilation testing?
You forgot the airoh modular. Along with the shark and ls2 they are the only real modular helmets with a 180 degree back flip. The rest cause to much drag at above urban limit, and legality of riding in the open position might be a question mark!
Have the Schuberth C3.Well made helmet but loud.
Nice
I love the neotec 2 but it definitely needs an update. I got mine in 2020. I think my favorite thing about it though, is the factory smell it has. I don't what it is about it but I find the smell very comforting. It's not all fake plastic smelling. Whatever treatment the fabric inside has on it smells great to me.

May i respectfully point out that you do not have a Nexx helmet represented. I have personally discovered it to be far better than my Neotec, my AGV carbon and also my Schuberth. My Carbon version is my favorite as it is super light with, blocks noise and looks the business. To be taken seriously, you really need to include or at the very least review and carry these very fine lids. Thanks in advance for listening.

pity you did not talk about the hjc i 100 with the latest standards
Bought a Neotec 2 last year. Excellent in every way and worth every cent.
Weight matters. You totally missed that by not comparing each helmets weight.
Personally, I cannot stand noise comparisons on helmets. Different head shapes, ear shape etc. will all play a huge roll in noise levels. What is quiet to one person is loud to another. My advice is buy your helmet from a reputable dealer (in person) where you can get properly fitted and make your own judgement call on how quiet it really is.

I have a question, why is the HJC RPHA 91 never in european best of's? Is it because of ECC rating?
Hi, it always seems to be the same brands in the top five and I wonder how many others you trial. I am on my second X-Lite X-1005 Ultra Carbon flip front. I have had HJC RPHA, that was returned due to water leaking inside at the visor for a refund, a Shoei Neotec 2, not bad, rubbish comms, and an AGV Sportmodular, just didn't get on with that one. The X-lite is smart, comfortable and has some very good features.

I can't understand how so many reviewers say how quiet the Neotech 2 is, mine is much louder than my old Bell lid, and often the visor doesn't seal closed properly causing a terrible whistling noise. Shame none of these come with a slot to easily attach the new magnetic Cardo Edge.
@FortaMoto
Жыл бұрын
As always the results will depend on a number of different factors such as the fit of the helmet, riding position, type of bike etc. The whistling noise and visor not sealing properly sounds like a warranty issue, though. Best to contact your dealer and have Shoei take a look at it. That shouldn't happen.
