    The first one about the charging port: a lot of countries, especially east Asia, the parking space is so tight I could only back it up. Then the charging port in the front will be a big issue.

  • @SteveLoughran
    @SteveLoughran Жыл бұрын

    it's a shame the vehicle doesn't let you flip up the rear window, the way a three series touring will do. That would let you get into the back even while you were backed up close to a charging point. On our 320, it is wonderful for being able to throw stuff on top of a fairly full boot, and to get in and out while you have a bike rack on the back. Presumably it was cut for cost saving again

    Actually, there is another limitation of having a rear charging port-when you do have things like bicycles on the back, you are going to have a hard time reversing. It would be even worse if you had a trailer because you would actually have to unhook before parking then leave the trailer "somewhere" until the vehicle was charged

    I personally see no need for a rotary controller as the voice control function works brilliantly for me, and I gather, according to BMW, that this will gradually become the standard in all cars. Re the rotary controller you still need to take yr eye off the road. That you don’t with the voice control function. Re the arm rest. BMW have rather clumsily forgotten that their cars are also sold in left-hand drive markets (which is nearly half of the global market).

    @@ericpratt3810 Fair comment but the BMW ix has a rotary controller…. It must be a cost saving measure for the ix1. Volkswagen made a mistake with all the haptic controls on the id electric range and after customer complaints have resorted to proper buttons on the forthcoming id3 facelift.

    It all depends on the perspective. For example the rear camera washer is something really useful, that very few cars have. Sure, if you could operate it separately it would be even better, but it's still nice to have it at all. The frunk, sure it's nice to have, but since there is an underfloor space in the trunk for the charging cables, it's not that big of an issue. Some electric cars (EQA for example) have much smaller trunk volume and no underfloor space for the cables. Concerning the folding seats, sure the old generation had a release tab in the trunk, but the bright side is that the car has actually a 40:20:40 split, no matter how you operate it. A lot of cars only have a 60:40 or even no folding seats at all, so it's still a very useful feature. On the armrest side, with a very deep storage space, you would never use the things on the bottom anyway, because they are difficult to access. You would end up just using the stuff stored on the top in most circumstances. With an open bottom section you could easily throw your wallet or other small items there and have them easily accessible. Less privacy but more accessibility. As for the charging port a longer cable should do the trick and allow you to park with the front of the car facing the wall.

It turns out the car/version I bought, with wheels 225/55 R18, it is impossible to have snowchains. I have to buy new wheels and need new snowtires as well. Extremely stupid. You maybe need to take in count, your are driving a car what is built on a shared plattform with diesel and hybrid cars. That's the reason why the charging port is at the same place where the other cars have their tank nozzle. PS: even your i3 had that - and it was not built on a diesel plattform. The one, two or no flap is not a question of convenience. It's a question of protection of the DC port when using AC only. Water, durt, snow etc could enter the DC port when left open during AC charing. The camera cleaning follows a logic - you want to see better backwards - you need cleaned window and cam. :) - I was aware of all the "annoying" things when I ordered my iX1 in September last year. Still looking forward to get it.

    I completely agree about the centre consol and the awkward room underneath the arm rest. The solution on the Skoda Enyaq is much better. Regarding the charging cabels, I think storing them in the side room in the luggage room would do OK. Agree on the folding of rear seats, but on the very positive side is 40/20/40. Regarding cleaning of rear view camera. Skoda Enyaq has the same, but there you cannot control the amount of fluid at all, much better on iX1, as you can just give it a squirt when nessesary.

    Agree (with the exception of one of your points) they range from being bothersome to being irritating. Particularly, the position of the charging port has not been well thought out. As regards folding the backs of the rear seats I can't really see what they could have done otherwise (apart from making it electronically actuated). If you are sitting in one of the rear seats and you want to adjust the inclination of the back of the seat then the position of that strap is ideal. On the other hand wanting to fold the back forwards in order to increase the luggage compartment, I can see that it becomes difficult....but as I personally have no need for that and have a family to accommodate I'm quite happy with the way it has been arranged.

    Agree that 4 of these would represented minor improvements but certainly not deal-breakers. I’m not sure what you mean about the charging point. Like you, I’ve had two i3s, so my charging port at home is positioned near to the back right of the car position when parked so I’m glad that BMW continued with the same charging port position on the iX1. Also, best practice is always reverse parking, which is safer, affording better manoeuvrability & pedestrian visibility on the way in and better pedestrian visibility & speed of exit on the way out. The only time I front park is if I cannot get necessary boot access when rear parking.

    As to the charging port placement: have you driven Audi e-tron? This port placement is a pain! Many HPC have rather short cables, with such a long "nose" it's very difficult to manoever. I'd rather drive a bit out of my space in the garage to load/unload, then wreck myself at the HPC trying to put the plug in ;-) Agree with all the other points. Thanks the videos. Here are some few more annoying "features": - head light is terrible and unsafe some cases - greyscale map without the possibility to change the style to let me see different roads with different color - map: no satelite view, no traffic, - menu style with that lot of icons with design from '80s is a joke - harman&kardon settings equal like a radio from the '80s too. Where is the preset, where is the equalizer - head-up display as little as possible. During navigation you have to understand clearly for the first look what you have to do, and where you have to go. In X5 and X4 it is working fine. It is not useless but close to in this size and stlye (too little and uncontrasted colors, difficult to interpret distance indication, etcetc). Ok there is a camera view on the main screen with arrows. But it is unsafe always look down to the screen instead fo looking the road in real. - on my Fiat Punto Van 2006 (just for an example, to let you see it is not a magic), if the weather is rainy and i set the gearbox to reverse, the rear window cleaner start working automatically until II reverse ... on a Ford as well, Skoda as well, .... but in a BMW it is a magic function. - Lane assist: car probe to follow the center line if it is marked. If the road become narrows, it tries to keep the distance from the center line of the road, but on the other side it close to hit something on the right: avoids the object on the right side of the road (bridge railing, for example) by inches. All this by automatically operating the steering wheel (tempomat off). - regularly applies emergency brakes in garage driveways due to the risk of collision - buttons on steering wheel: screen mode selector is important, ACC radar settings is not (higher class BMW's has got this feature) - where is the wheel to let me set the backlight? - where is the button to let me switch on/off auto distance light option? - drop down menu (favourites): let me set a few audio things. Why not more? Why not let me set here anything I want from the menu/submenu? - wireless charger: if you missed with 1 mm the position of your phone it is not charging or with low capacity. It is with iPhone 14Pro. No way to use a Fold3 with it. An other good for nothing option. Maybe good for store parking tickets :)

    Agree about some of this but in Sweden wintertime the rear camera is always dirty because of salted roads. One important thing another of my viewers mentioned is that it needs to be exposed all the time for the drive recorder pre crash recordings to work so I guess it’s a necessary solution.
