    hey... So that's what I call a real routing template! All respect!. I've seen many ideas and projects for routing template, but none came close to making as much sense as this one. The commercial milling copy offers didn't really convince me either. The useful features that have been implemented here in the routing template speak of a craft "carpenter" experience, who really thought a lot about what you really need in woodwork through his design. So that the work can be done as quickly as possible. So the device addresses all possible situations, in the carpenter area and all the more in the hobby area, Thanks for the idea... It will be implemented as soon as possible. Not in wood but in 15mm aluminum groove profile. thumbs up? Best regards

    I think this is one of the neatest versions of this particular jig I've seen, adding the laser etched measurements is a level up and the use of quick release bicycle clamps for setting to size is genius ... another plus is these clamps are dirt cheap, I can see myself using them for other purposes 👍

    This is great! I’ve got the Woodpecker aluminum version already, but it hadn’t occurred to me to use it for precise fit dados, so thanks. Now I’m going to be looking for places where I’d like to have the track clamp slots, maybe I’ll end up making some of these anyway. Especially since they are tooless, unlike the woodpecker. Darn, now I need a laser too. 😬

    Am a fan of your work Tak, love everything you do and this project is no exception. Completely understand your not wanting to supply plans too, however I had a devil of a job trying to find/know what the clamps were called. It wasn’t until I read the comments that I discovered they were called Bicycle Saddle Quick Release Clamps. My only suggestion to improve the excellent presentations you already make would be to identify what bits and pieces you used to make a project and perhaps where you bought them. Keep up the fine work and keep those projects coming!

    This is a real beauty!! -You're absolutely a genius, it's been a long time since I've seen such a versatile tool! While I was watching, I was thinking that you may want to make one for 6 sides (so you can have 3 sides of different length). This should allow you to not only make hexagons, but also triangles and any 6-sided shape with parallel sides of different length. -I really loved the use of the laser engraver. When I saw the thumbnail, I thought this tool was something you bought (so I'd say if you make sure they don't have sharp corners, you could sell them to those who want one but are not able to make them). And the video-editing was also "just right" - the video shows everything without being boring! 😃

    I think just adjusting the jig would be a nightmare. You can easily make the hexagon shape with his current design. Just use his angle attachment and you'll get as accurate a cut as you would using dedicated jig maybe even more accurate. AND with his angle attachment you can make just about any shape you want. Want a hexagon? Just set the angle block to 60 degrees and follow the previous edge around. Want a pentagon set the blocks to 72 degrees. What I'd really like to have is access to his plans. Why redesign what already works so well.

    Years ago i have built nearly the same router-template and its still in use. Bicycle-clamps as fasteners are really a good idea, its alway a bit tricky to adjust the nuts with a wrench. The t-slots at the bottom are also a good idea. And the laser-marking looks very professional. But i see that you make the same mistake: I also used a flush-cutter with top-ball-bearing. So you have a very small range for adjusting the milling-depth. And not only one time i was milling in the lower edge of the template, because the bearing was running in the slot instead at the top edge. So i used a copy-ring on the router and i can adjust the depth of the bit independently. You only have to observe the diameter-difference between copy-ring and router-bit.

  • @carpentak

    @carpentak

    Жыл бұрын

    Of course, there are times when I also use copy-rings. However, in this video, instead of calculating the interval using copying, the point is to directly set the template once and perform the milling operation, so only those are shown. you're right. This method is suggested because you need to position the bearing as well as the depth of milling. However, digging deeply at once is not because it is too much for the router or bit. I can get deep if I clear the template and dig it out two or three times. This is possible because of the bearings. Because of the bearings, the bits do not cross the boundaries already worked. Digging deeper is possible.
