thanks mark, your lessons are the most helpful and clear in all internet
1:02 is a sick riff. Flea would be proud.

That sounds more like Mark King from Level 42 than Flea. He would be proud

he uses the same technique again in riff #4, at 27:14. i'm still struggling with the flamenco roll in the first riff, but i've had some success with it in riff #4. give that one a try, and maybe it'll help you with the first one. KEvron

Oh man same i been playing bass almost a year now i know slap technique right and flamenco and other techniques
I like this format - write up some crazy slap lines, then break them all down piece by piece. I will probably never use these exact, entire slap lines in real life, but having the little bits explained at a listenable speed allows me to hear them all clearly, learn them, then reassemble them into an original slap bass line of my own. Exactly what the doctor ordered -- thanks, mate!

For anybody that is on the fence about buying the lessons- BUY THEM! You will not regret it. He starts Very basic and goes all the way to full out, top speed, badass slapping! There's tab and backing tracks for everything. His teachings are extremely clear. There is no "fluff" in these lessons. Each lesson is packed with valuable information, exercises and technique. He's done his part in a most excellent manner. If you do your part and put in the time you WILL be slapping just as good as he does!

So there is a course? I see the question why buy lessons. From my experience, when you "enlist" in the course program, you get into very detailed "circuit training" for technique, like hitting a gym. The isometrics of what is done, is not things you would think of on your own

You also get Tabs for every section and drum backing tracks to practice while pausing the video
Thanks a lot for the excellent job and for spending time teaching us some of your vast knowledge.
Mark, thank you so much. Your lessons have improved my playing incredibly.
You are such a great teacher Mark! When you first play things they almost sound unattainable but then you break it down so well and explain why you may choose to pop or slap at a certain time, that we spares can actually play these licks. I really appreciate you!
Hey Mark! I have been following your vids and utilizing them for about a year now. Thank you very much for the time and effort you put into your videos. They are very informative. Since I have been following your instruction I have improved by leaps and bounds. Just had to say thanks, keep up the excellent work you are doing.
Much respect, Mark! You're an awesome instruct and thank you so much for all the lessons. Everyday, I've been practicing watching your lessons and my skills are improving a lot.
Thanks so much! I love these because they are straight forward unlike almost all other riffs or anything on KZread, and just amazing
mark has got to be one of the best teachers i have seen thus far. the amount of effort that he puts forth is amazing. Doin' the Lord's work indeed. Thank you.
Started playing bass 20 years ago and stopped for about 5 years. Your videos have eradicated the rust off my stagnated bass growth and I'm finally learning new stuff and it's working ! Love from Dubai
The slap riffs are super helpful and usable---I transcribe them myself, which I think helps me remember them. I add in tablature to remind myself of fingerings and RH technique. The lesson says there are transcriptions already made, so I joined up. But I didn't see links for the tabs for the funk stuff. The palm slaps are a revelation! THANK YOU
I really really appreciate your videos. Thank you
2 hours a day for a week and I have every one nailed! Thank you so much I love adding riffs to my arsenal, any advice for changing time signatures I always get a groove in my head and can nail it but then when I move to one with a different tempo or feel o always choke a few time before I can nail it
You have made me a much better bass player! Thank You! excellent riffs, break downs with explanations as always. I'd like to think I get the most out of your free videos. cuz I am now disabled & on SSDI and like a fool I have a mortgage=always broke. so keep them coming. if I had extra income=skype lessons. you da man Mark
There are lots of great player, not a lot of great teachers. Thanks for your clarity and pacing, it’s great!
Thank you, I bought your simple steps to slap bass course. and it's awesome!! You're a great teacher!!
This is simply awesome! Thanks for the lessons!
Mark this was excellent thanks a million , I've gotten really far with your help. Seems I caught the bass bug about the correct time 2014 , last time was 1980 but we didn't have youtube back then , I floundered. I played Radar Love & NOT FRAGILE all in the wrong notes. I finally learned the notes on my fretboard , thanks to you. No Banger Lady for almost a month now , haha , thank God. Your Heaven sent ,,,
this is such a good vid! it helped me improved and i have learned them all! thx

Riff #2 is amazing , great video.
Riff 2 brought me to the style of Mother's Finest bass player Wyzard (Jerry Seay). Thanks for pointing out this groove !
Those doublestop chords are awesome in slap riffs.
Thank you very much, sir!
Thanks Master!! God Bless you

roy bird , I'd started off playing guitar(and drums) but switched to bass when the band I was in couldn't find a bassist. I still count that choice as one of the better ones I've made in my life.
cheers mark

the end of number 5 works great with a little double thumb action!
Riff 2 feels very primus to me - i love it :)
Thanks Mark, cool and easy. Great explanation. Could you drop the drums for these reefs? I could not find them.
MARK THAT BASS SOUNDS GOOD
love it
Riff #5 is sick
impressive
Riff 2 has an awesome Mark King vibe to it...I know you're a fan, awesome lesson!
@talkingbasslessons

Yup. I was trying to give a certain familiar vibe with each riff. Riff 2 is DEFINITELY Mark King!
Hi and thank you for this amazing slap-bass-lesson. My question is; in the 2nd part of section one "the double-popp" on e' and f', bevore you slap the low e string, are you play the double popp with your first finge ? It's look like, that you change between firts finger an thump. But when I try to play it with first finger and thump, it's difficult. (sorry my english is not so good. Hope you know what I mean and can help me a little bit. Have a nice time.
u really rock man, do u have any band?
Riff #2 is so good
ive officially learned the first riff. took som time to figure out the flamenco roll xD
39 thumbs down? They can't be bassists because even if slap bass isn't your thing one must admit this is a fine lesson.
This is real funk! Well done! Let me know your bass model?
0:40 i just learned double popping in minutes for this disgusting bassline, i thought it was something for pros only am so excited thanks so much
Another great lesson! Mark, what gauge of strings do you use, and how is your action set up?
First one is my favorite
Riff #1 is insane. Love to play it (although it took me a while to get that flamenco). However, Riff #5 sounds oddly familiar. Have you ever heard of 24 Karat Magic by Bruno Mars? Almost sounds like that
Great video! one question what drum beats you use for the 2th riff?
Is the chord progression for these riffs shown in the PDF notes/booklets if you buy the course? Thanks for everything Mark!
Hi there! I have a question, how do you get that awesome sound on your bass guitar?
I also play on a 6 sting so I have to mute the flippin hell out of it, but when o switch to 4 string I can really hammer them, I feel like using my 6 sting is like weight training for 4 string lol
Really enjoyed that...however much of it were chords/ intervals...would have been helpful to know what chords/intervals were being used.
Riff #5 is so god damn funky
Can you give the backing track of your bass slap lesson 2?
And one more thing anyone who is starting from scratch like I was, I found to execute the flamenco rows my fingers had to become conditioned for it. If you don't have some calus going on yet you haven't practiced it enough

What pickups are those they're awesome
Hi Mark, May I ask what strap you use? I have used loads of high quality leather ones, and get really bad back and shoulder pain. Would you be able to recommend me one to try? Thank you, Sam
Anywhere to download the backing track for riff 3?
Holy shit, this is funky
very good!! apluse´ssssssssssssssssss
Greaaaaaaaaaaaat!!!!!
Hello! Can you tell what king of bass guitar are you using? Thanks!
