Hey Janson, glad you found it helpful! This stuff can get unnecessarily over-complicated by people trying to sound smart. CD yields are still quite good if you're in the market for low risk returns! I really appreciate you stopping to drop the feedback!

My uncle locked in 4.68% 2 year CDs. Receiving about $700 monthly... not bad. Its like a small rental unit

Those high yield rates quoted for credit unions- 5.8%, for example, are totally inaccurate.

I was surprised too when I saw the WSJ article so I had to check for myself and sure enough on their websites, 5.75… but must admit I stopped short of signing up to personally verify.

Theres a big difference between a hysa rate and a cd rate... if the fed cuts rates theres a decent chance the economy plummets or has plummeted. Which means jobs are in jeapordy. Yes you hysa rate will go down but you money is liquid and can be used to hold yourself over. Money in a cd is basically gone until maturation so Id need much more of a delta to chose it over hysa.

Agree. A lot of nuance to monetary policy that couldn’t be addressed in this video. But if you have money that can be stashed away for a month (or 3), you’ll be hard pressed to find a better (low risk) rate than CDs. But if CDs aren’t your thing, all good too! Personal preference plays a huge role in personal finance.
