My truck was the same way and I fixed it for 374 dollars. Jack the motor up, drop the oil pan, replace oil pump while you’re inside.. which is included in the 374 bucks. Take part each rod journal even if only one rod was spun, replace them all which is included in the 374.00. Sand the crank shaft where the bearings rest with a fine grit to smooth out and rough spots the spun bearings caused. Come back with a lent free cloth and alcohol and wipe down the freshly sanded shaft. Put new bearings in the rod caps to match the grooves. Once that’s done be sure to add a ultra thin film of assembly lube on the bearings with your finger so there a some type of lube to keep the bearings from creating friction around the crank. Do each of these one by one and torque them back down to oem spec. Clean oil pan of all the metal shavings and be sure you wipe or blow out any shaving around the crank as well. Replace oil pan gasket also included in the 374 bucks. Put all the oil pan bolts back in but not too tight and remove old oil filter and replace it with a new one. Add the new oil up top. Drop the Engine back down (mounts don’t have to be disassembled) fire it up. Send me a check for 100 bucks for saving your life lol! If you got ride of the truck by now then slap urself.

Drop the pan rotate the crank remove the bearing cap as each journal lowers get some emery paper or roll sandpaper.Dont cut to much material out just enough to smooth them. Install new bearings Install pan gasket and new oil and filter. Start and idol for 15mins then drive it for a good 30mins. Last a long time if you can get the crank journals smooth.

I got a v4 to save some gas and haven’t driven my challenger so I just turn it in periodically but yeah just heard this knocking thinking of just waiting to save up a little extra and get upgraded internals as well as have it ported out since it will be opened up already.

@@cylcase9813 you can do rod bearing and head gaskets for just over $100 without pulling the motor but it’s a pain in the ass and that’s assuming that the crank isn’t damaged. It’s a half assed fix but I’ve had motors go anywhere from 10,000 to 100,000 miles after doing new rod bearing in frame. Cleanliness is the key. If it looks fucked..... then it’s fucked... but you can always squeeze a bit more out of a fucked motor... Gotta do what you gotta do.... God speed 😎

My 06 Chrysler 300 just started making this Crank or Rod Bearing knock. I don't think it's broken manifold bolts. But I can't seem to get to the front of the car before it stops knocking. I've pulled the belt and spun everything. Thinking it may be the $40 salvage yard alternator bearing that I replaced 1,500 mi. ago. Or an idler bearing. Like I said. It only happens every once in a while. But when it happens, if it happens (weird yes). It's only when the car is first started after sitting for over 30 mins. Never if shut off and restarted several times. It seemed like it was only doing it at 30°F outside, or colder. But now It's doing it on 70°F days and drove 30 miles, at 60mph. Shut off for a 30 min Dr. visit yesterday. The engine temp was still 130°F maybe, when I went to leave. It quickly goes away the second I put it into R or D and slowly release the brake. It won't do it again until I shut it off and has sat longer than 20 - 30 mins. When it does this. I also hear something else weird going on. When I release the brake after putting it into gear. It sounds like metal on metal scraping as I'm pulling away (slowly). Like a dry wheel bearing, or the brake pads are completely worn to metal on metal. Only, it's not as loud. The pads were 3/4 less than 500 miles ago (when I rotated the tires). Replaced the left front wheel bearing and had got it inspected. I've had new pads and rotors on standby for a year. Once I get rolling. Everything is back to normal. It's as if nothing ever happened. I can pound on it when pissed off at slow pokes (granny gwakers) and not as much as an injector tick. Runs GREAT! 100% Power. No codes being thrown. Holds a steady 50 - 55 psi for oil pressure at 60mph. 25 when stopped. Doesn't burn oil (too bad). Coolant is good. Fnt left CV boot is torn but has no play. I added more grease and zip tied a new boot over the dry rot split 😁👌🏻. I've had a new axle on standby for a yr. Warranty is always expired by the time I squeeze every last bit of life out of upcoming foreseen issues.. So idkwtf is going on. Does anyone have a clue? Torque Converter, maybe? Trans works flawlessly. 🤔

For you to open the hood you need a skinny arm to reach in there to wiggle the piece up to push the hood open. Ridiculous Happened to me when I bought the truck a year after. So I had this same issue; it is actually the exhaust manifold, the bolt that hold it onto the head has broken. And the gas (exhaust) is escaping from where the manifold connects to the head, you need to take that off and replace it. About $700 at a shop. Bc usually the bolt is broken into the head. And you need to reverse it out.
