Love that shot of the carb sucking fuel..
For those complaining about carbs on a LS. It just seems easier for some people with older veichles to install LS without all the electronic and wires. Doing a setup like this on something newer where you have to pass smog might be a mistake.

Thanks for onfirming what I always told my friends, ant beat duel planes on street ars
Wow alot of people who don't really know the meaning of a great little engine 323 CI. to be exact ! Saying things like it's disappointing or it makes the same torqe? NO it didn't! 340torqe a manifold change and 360 ft.lbs. of torque is alot, HP a little but on the increase , no cam changes only carb changes and that did not much matter in cfm it's a great little motor right out of the crate! Especially today with so many combinations turbos, prochargers, nitrous? come on you do not know what your saying MASSIVE potential Massive oh and I did not forget the beehive springs!!! So much more to say but not much will be heard unless people pull heads out of asses and try this little 327 and see it's potential!!! Stop taking shit about this great Lille MONSTER!!!
freiberger, you are my hero !!
@INDESTRCUTABLE Being a 5.3 truck motor it is a "Vortec" motor. Vortec is just the name that has been put with GM truck engines since the Gen I 5.7 Vortec debuted in '96. The Vortec name carried over to the Gen III and IV truck motors as well.
That's the way we were taught the 4 strokes' names in auto tech. lol This was good and I liked the ole yellow chevy too.... the one that caused so many problems. I think it was the crusher. That beast was rad.
My 2020 Silverado 5.3 supposedly makes 355hp stock, and it feels like it. I’d imagine a cam, lifters (DOD/AFM) delete, and a different intake and it’d be a great little engine.
This would only make sense if your stock engine needs replacement. The 327HO is your stock LM7 5.3 with flat top, coated pistons and a slightly larger cam.19165628 gets you the 327HO for $4100. P/N 89018155 gets you a 2005-2007 L33 5.3.This engine was factory rated at 310 hp/335lb/ft torqueThis engine comes with alum block alum.799 heads are LS6 heads minus the sodium filled exh. valves.L33 comes with a cam with slightlymore c/r 9.9:1 vs 9.4:1 L33 cam has a tad more lift. This will bolt right in
Also you can get even better performance out of the Dual plane intake by milling the center divider and you will keep your great torque curve and be right at the hP numbers of the first dyno pull..

At our car club, someone built an LS3 to 406 cubic inches via 3.75 inch stroke. 288/298 cam. FAST EZ efi. Firing order swap to 15436872, Shorty header on the driver's side to clear the steering column, tri-y on the passenger side. Single plane intake. It'll rev to 6000 rpm as fast as a literbike can rev to 12000.
Carbs, fuel injected....if ya make Torque and Horsepower your happy with who cares which one. I like both for different reasons. I will say that when i smoked Mustangs by 2 car lenghts in my '79 short wide Chevy truck with 468ci and a Holly 850, i didnt see those guys making fun of my Carb....they wanted to see it!!!
Crazy this goofy looking dude would become one of the most well known guys in the world
The 4/7 and LS order fire all the cylinders close to the flywheel, which means you don't twist the crank and make it vibrate, so the engine runs smoother. They do this with carbs because carbs need moving air in order to work. TBI is immune to that problem.
Freiburgers hair😂
Westech Dyno. Home of the "you pay for the number and you get that number"! I trust the numbers from that dyno like people trust the words of politicians.
Hella young Frieburger!
That's what I keep hearing. I was thinking of building a replacement for my 4.3 v6. Namely, an LSX 376 crate motor. (and a full build when I put 200K miles on the thing) I wanted to use the GMPP dual plane drilled for injectors, but I'm wondering if that's necessary with FAST EZ-efi. Also, I was going to use exhaust manifolds and change the firing order to 18736542 so the exhaust note is like a Mercedes E63 on steroids. 220/232 cam.
@copleygsxr you can purchase these engines for around $500. buy a harness removed from a truck for $150, have the harness modified for $100, have the ecm flash for $100, and motor mount adapters for under $50, so for under $1000 you can have a late model, efi, 300+ hp ls small block. and all parts are easy to find online most are on ebay.

YUP..THEN WHEN YOU WANT OVER 400 HP YOU WILL NEED TO SPEND 400 MORE ON INJECTORS..400 MORE ON A TUNE...THAT IS WHERE THE CARB SHINES..5,3 WITH DUAL PLANE 750 AND A 230ISH DURATION CAM IS 425 HP..AND I ADDED A NITROUS PLATE..YOU AINT GONNA BEAT THAT HP PER DOLLAR ANYWHERE..
And those tall carburetors are supposed to fit under the hood of cars which are the most common swaps. LOL good way of showing the people what they want to know.

$750 to $900 you can get a complete running motor from the junk yard.. Get an LS6 cam from a Corvette or GM based forum for like $50 or a brand new LS6 cam for like $240. Either way, your already ahead of the game compared to this crate..

Around here you can get a complete running truck for less than $1,500 - engine, computer, tranny, often a Z71 rear end (g80 locker), and anything else you'd want to take from it as long as it isn't frame rails or rocker panels!

drvn1 this is the Gen IV motor. You’re talking about a Gen III Vortec which make about 50 - 90hp less.
Got a question ? Do short stroke engines have higher top end speed and can you tell me what motors are short stroke sorry it's a stupid question.
@TEAMBIC1 It's capable of running a higher RPM, but the cam really isn't. The cam in the truck 5.3L (LM7) is a 190/191 duration cam, and isn't really meant for over 5800-6000 RPM. The cam in the LS327 is the LS1 camshaft, which isn't much more radical, but was meant for a bigger motor @ 6000 RPM, so it can be pushed to the 6200 range, and you'll almost always change springs when you change the cam.
DUDE! one thing i just seen is they have the DAM VS linkage zip tied to open !

@GGGGGGGTHEBEST7 I think the 327 refers to flywheel horsepower, instead of cubic inches
Look I want to get a 6 litre truck cast iron block (hopefully an LY6 as it has the good L92 alloy heads on it) and put a decent sized turbo on it and wind the boost up. I will probably mate it to an 4L80E as adaptors exist in the aftermarket. Just wondering what my options are out there? good support in the aftermarket? I suppose (and most likely will) buy a second motor to have as a spare incase I hole the first one spraying it too much or something like that..
where does that valve spring compressor come from
What about testing one with the Fast LSXRT 102mm intake?
do you think if i put an ls6 intake i would have to change out the valve springs? and would that void the warranty?
750 cfm brawler ran best on my 398 Windsor 490hp. using the air gap.
Im sure its lackluster numbers had to do with GMs warranty... The cam is basically a new 6.0 truck grind.. with an LS6 cam or hot cam it probably would have put out around 400
David Freiburger!, Thumbs up
what this be the same for a 6.0? im going carbwith my lq4 but i got the single plane?
@fidstang you have no clue then. Every engine I have dynoed there ran exactly what it should have in the car. What makes you think their engine dyno is so off?
Where did that cylinder head steam manifold come from?
1:33 PRICELESS! LOL
@GGGGGGGTHEBEST7 It is a 325. Its just a marketing thing of nastalgia to call it a 327.
What valve spring compressor is that?! I want one.
This video is now a decade old...
Top Fuel Dragsters run mechanical direct injection. I don't hate carbs, but I don't fantasize about running one.
What did they use for ignition? Had to be some kind of stand alone system.
Wouldn't an L33 be a better base since it uses LS6 head castings and higher compression piston?
I have a 86 k25 4x4 I looking for some advice on which intake I should use. I'm swapping a 6.0l in place of the old school 350. I like the old school body but want modern tech.
Contrary to popular belief the 5.3 ls made after 98-99 ( I believe correct me if I'm wrong) is not a 327cui small block... the actual cubic inches varies between 323 and 325 The 327 hasn't been in a production vehicle since 69 Your 00 Silverado does not DOES NOT have a high output 327.
Question: I'm running a stock 5.3 vortec in an 04' Z71 and am seriously looking into this particular motor as a replacement in the near future. Would I be able to put an intake similar to the stock one on this motor and not lose any power? I'm basically swapping over whatever the 5.3 H.O doesn't have from the stock motor from my truck. Can anyone give me some tips here?
03:29 -> HEAVEN -> 05:02 - 06:23
It is 325, but it's advertised to make 327 hp, so they're calling it the LS 327.
Homeless Dave!
use the same spec camshaft and carb on a 327 small block versus a 327 LS and watch the LS make 50-60 more hp, before final tuning.
@denton3737 doesnt the ls6 intake hit a higher rpm range than a truck intake.
The difference between carbs and EFI isn't that big, but you can do things with EFI that you can't do with a carb. All EFI setups are all over 1000CFM. You can't toss a dominator on a 325 and expect it to run right. At low RPM, EFI with good injectors atomizes the fuel better than a carb, so you'll probably gain torque. This video should be re-done with an LSXRT intake and EFI, or maybe a FAST EZ efi TBI unit.
Is there anyway you can post the part number to that vavle spring tool
why do you tyrap the secondary on the vacuum carb
@TEAMBIC1 What would putting an LS6 intake have to do with valve springs?
To get the best of both worlds.ported dual plane intake
why would you buy a 5.3 crate motor? the whole appeal of the 5.3 is that you can pick one at a junkyard out of a truck.

the_dude that's gasoline that's injected into the carb,it's called an accelerator pump,it fills in for a split second that there isn't fuel to go along with all that air you just introduced into the engine by opening the throttle, some carbs have one accelerator pump some have two, carbs with two are referred to as double pumper carbs and are mostly used for race applications

@blowne85s10 I said you could have a hell of a motor foe 3 gs try building a turbo 327 for under 3gs see what happens.
the stock fuel injected 5.3 makes 295hp. all this engine has is a hotter cam, dif pistons, although the cr remains the same at 9.5:1. same block as the lm7 truck motor as he mentioned. thats a hp gain of 50+ so what is failing here? not the carb, sir.
I want one of these for my kit car... But I hate how slow the RPM peak is.. I want a quick rev quick power motor. Probably a noob question but what makes a V8 slow rev with power vs one that pushed 6k + power in seconds?? Cause some muscle hits red line in a second with a rev, some others have such a slow rev. Why? And how do you get quick fast power? Not the slow long power range?

Nippledozer I know that has to do with quick range when applied to the wheels. But like on Pro class and Sprint cup cars when they just rev tranny not engaged it revs to 8k in seconds. But most of these take a full second to rev to 6k.. I'd think maybe cams? Better head maybe? Idk I just don't like the slow revving V8's. Cause that usually leads to a long slow drawn out power band.

Always enjoy your engine videos, but there's a lot of controversy concerning timing on ls engines. 22 degrees makes mac power, no no Iget max power at 36 degrees. Carb boosters see a stronger signal from cylinders since the left and right banks don't share a common plenum so low rpm torque generally improves, but at higher air flow levels, single planes deliver more power due to a straighter/ more direct flow path. Also, port shape/ volume/ length play important roles in mixture velocity and quality, affecting power.

Nice compared to a run of the mill 350. I’d take that and build it over a 350 any day. But then, back in the day when the 327 and 350 were both available from the factory the 327 kicked the 350’s ass, so I’m a bit biased against the Big Mac of engines.
