5.3 LS 327 dyno test

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

This is an Episode of the Car Junkie TV show "Suck Squeeze Bang Blow" which I edited when I worked for the company. It is a dyno test of the LS 327 GM crate motor.

For those complaining about carbs on a LS. It just seems easier for some people with older veichles to install LS without all the electronic and wires. Doing a setup like this on something newer where you have to pass smog might be a mistake.

Wow alot of people who don't really know the meaning of a great little engine 323 CI. to be exact ! Saying things like it's disappointing or it makes the same torqe? NO it didn't! 340torqe a manifold change and 360 ft.lbs. of torque is alot, HP a little but on the increase , no cam changes only carb changes and that did not much matter in cfm it's a great little motor right out of the crate! Especially today with so many combinations turbos, prochargers, nitrous? come on you do not know what your saying MASSIVE potential Massive oh and I did not forget the beehive springs!!! So much more to say but not much will be heard unless people pull heads out of asses and try this little 327 and see it's potential!!! Stop taking shit about this great Lille MONSTER!!!

@INDESTRCUTABLE Being a 5.3 truck motor it is a "Vortec" motor. Vortec is just the name that has been put with GM truck engines since the Gen I 5.7 Vortec debuted in '96. The Vortec name carried over to the Gen III and IV truck motors as well.

The 4/7 and LS order fire all the cylinders close to the flywheel, which means you don't twist the crank and make it vibrate, so the engine runs smoother. They do this with carbs because carbs need moving air in order to work. TBI is immune to that problem.

That's what I keep hearing. I was thinking of building a replacement for my 4.3 v6. Namely, an LSX 376 crate motor. (and a full build when I put 200K miles on the thing) I wanted to use the GMPP dual plane drilled for injectors, but I'm wondering if that's necessary with FAST EZ-efi. Also, I was going to use exhaust manifolds and change the firing order to 18736542 so the exhaust note is like a Mercedes E63 on steroids. 220/232 cam.

@TEAMBIC1 It's capable of running a higher RPM, but the cam really isn't. The cam in the truck 5.3L (LM7) is a 190/191 duration cam, and isn't really meant for over 5800-6000 RPM. The cam in the LS327 is the LS1 camshaft, which isn't much more radical, but was meant for a bigger motor @ 6000 RPM, so it can be pushed to the 6200 range, and you'll almost always change springs when you change the cam.

Look I want to get a 6 litre truck cast iron block (hopefully an LY6 as it has the good L92 alloy heads on it) and put a decent sized turbo on it and wind the boost up. I will probably mate it to an 4L80E as adaptors exist in the aftermarket. Just wondering what my options are out there? good support in the aftermarket? I suppose (and most likely will) buy a second motor to have as a spare incase I hole the first one spraying it too much or something like that..

The difference between carbs and EFI isn't that big, but you can do things with EFI that you can't do with a carb. All EFI setups are all over 1000CFM. You can't toss a dominator on a 325 and expect it to run right. At low RPM, EFI with good injectors atomizes the fuel better than a carb, so you'll probably gain torque. This video should be re-done with an LSXRT intake and EFI, or maybe a FAST EZ efi TBI unit.

Probably a noob question but what makes a V8 slow rev with power vs one that pushed 6k + power in seconds?? Cause some muscle hits red line in a second with a rev, some others have such a slow rev. Why? And how do you get quick fast power? Not the slow long power range?

Nippledozer I know that has to do with quick range when applied to the wheels. But like on Pro class and Sprint cup cars when they just rev tranny not engaged it revs to 8k in seconds. But most of these take a full second to rev to 6k.. I'd think maybe cams? Better head maybe? Idk I just don't like the slow revving V8's. Cause that usually leads to a long slow drawn out power band.

Always enjoy your engine videos, but there's a lot of controversy concerning timing on ls engines. 22 degrees makes mac power, no no Iget max power at 36 degrees. You can run more timing with a carb than fuel injection. You guys never say anything about timing, is this some kind of secret? Loosen up and give the full scoop. Thanks

Carb boosters see a stronger signal from cylinders since the left and right banks don't share a common plenum so low rpm torque generally improves, but at higher air flow levels, single planes deliver more power due to a straighter/ more direct flow path. Also, port shape/ volume/ length play important roles in mixture velocity and quality, affecting power.

Nice compared to a run of the mill 350. I’d take that and build it over a 350 any day. But then, back in the day when the 327 and 350 were both available from the factory the 327 kicked the 350’s ass, so I’m a bit biased against the Big Mac of engines. Ok, they’re good, but far from the very best and thatvwhat I demand from my hard earned dollars!
