4x4 Adventures Australia | Remote Overlanding | Israelite Bay and Cape Arid National Parks

Welcome to Jafffa Adventures where Jill and Terry take off for a half year trip through the remote regions of South Australia and Western Australia. The genesis of the trip was the solar eclipse at Exmouth on April 20th, but we decided to turn the adventure into half a year on the road visiting the most remote places we could get. In this video we continue to explore the remote and lesser known coastal 4WD tracks of Western Australia. We explore Israelite Bay, the site of an old Telegraph Station, where we camp for the night. From there it is on to Cape Arid National Park and Thomas Fisheries Camp but not before we tackle some serious mud bogs that have us pretty intimidated. We will show you how to get to all these great remote spots with detailed maps and explanations.
If West Australia coastal tracks are not on your bucket list, they should be!!
This one is not to be missed if you are in the area and you enjoy four wheel driving. You must be appropriately prepared to take on remote arid conditions, but if you are you will not be disappointed.
If you like overlanding, if you like remote unspoiled places, if you like 4WD action, then this is the place to be.

Evening ! Well bugger me! I had an old 2 Ltr Diesel Dual Cab Hilux too. It was actually a factory 5 speed (which our local Toyota dealer said never existed 😉) According to the original owner I bought it from it was the last of that model which is why it got the 5 speed. It already had 300,000kms on it! You are right, they were gutless, I could only use 5th gear on downhill runs but when we had the farm, I did actually could carry 2 round bales on the tray & occasionally tow the hay trailers😁. When we moved to S.A. from Qld. I drove her towing a trailer all the way. What a long slow trip that was (the missus had the Commodore wagon & the kids, I had lots of gear & the dog!!) The old Hilux then became our camping rig once here but that was many moons ago! Thanks for another fantastic video, some wonderful coastline there in W.A. that's for sure! Cheers!! 👍

I had the 5 speed in mine as well, although as you noted, it did not get a lot of use😂. Round bails and a bay trailer, you would have had to take off in low range to get her rolling😉. Thanks for watching and sharing Rod, I sincerely appreciate it 👍😎

@@JafffaAdventures Ba ha! yes, Low range it was 🤣(the old diesel Hilux was such a come down after my V8 FJ40 😥..... which I should never have sold 🙄 .... but the family was growing) Then of course, a couple of years after we got to S.A. we sold the lux & the FJ was left with someone else 😥Thanks once again for another great video, it's not just the fantastic scenery but the comments & little stories along the way that just sometimes brings back so many memories for me, straaaaange but true! Cheers!!

@@JafffaAdventures yeah it stuck out like dogs plumbs to me lol 🤣🤣 a good mod although a little antiquated these days, we found ourselves reefing the old 'L' whatever's out of them and grafting V8 Holden's, Checks etc back on the day. Love the journey mate you guys out on a great production, at this rate we won't need to do a lap ourselves. Cheers 😉

A great video of the Israelite / Cape Arid region. Can be very easy to get bogged down there (don't ask me how I know that) and usually good practice to travel with at least two vehicles. I'm in Kalgoorlie, about 4 hours north of there and it has been a regular venue for camping & fishing trips over the years. Keep any eye out for large tiger snakes in the bushes around the Thomas River camping ground - they can be quite aggressive when disturbed - and if one bites you out there, you are in serious trouble. Plenty of good fishing either off the beach or the rocks at Thomas. Sand whiting and herring common off the beaches, and skippy (skipjack trevally) and Australian salmon in deeper water off the rocks. You can also catch quite large salmon off the beaches if you cast out into a gutter - they put up a good fight, but are not much of an eating fish - I usually give away what salmon I catch to neighbours etc when I get home. Been down there many times. Careful walking on the rocks though - they can be very slippery when wet. I reckon that Hi-lux had an old Holden red motor in it - Toyota never released them with a 6 cylinder, at least not here in Australia. It used to be common practice to throw a Holden red motor in all types of imported vehicles - generally a much more powerful engine and also very common and comparatively cheap.

It is a stunning part of the country and I'm glad you guys are seeing it. The Albany 4WD club are planning to do the route from Israelite bay back to Albany in a roundabout fashion, probably not too dissimilar to your trek mentioned, in September. As a matter of interest what has been the longest stretch between fuel stops and what is the worst Litres/100kms you have managed so far? Great video as always, keep it up. 😀👍

  • @JafffaAdventures

You gotta get out on that trip mate, you will love it. The longest stretch between fuel stops (off road) has been the Wiluna to Kunawirritji half of the Canning Stock Route. I did 22.7 l/100km on that half and used 239 litres and 21.1 on the northern half and used 186 litres. As I have 270 litre capacity, I did not fill up at Billiluna but pushed through to Halls Creek where it was a buck a litre cheaper.👍😎
