I think the simplest thing to do is to make a fiberglass cap to mount to the top of my bumper. Mine is painted so I think I'll mold it in so it appears to be one solid piece. That way I won't be running into problems that compound one another and create a chain of events that lead from one problem to the next.

Really interested in how you decide to take this on. If you plan on painting or using a bumper cover I would break out the bondo and fiberglass, but that's just me, I love bondo! You also just made me buy some new tools, I just ordered a set of contour gauge duplicators! Don't know why I didn't already have these.

After thinking about it I believe I'm going to cut the top part of the truck ends off and make the top of the bumper flat like the original bumper. Thanks for watching!!!

I'm addressing the same issue with mine. I'm thinking about making a fiberglass cap and molding it in to my bumper. Mine is painted though

I suspect I am too late, but you touched on a somewhat critical point near the end: airflow required! Why not consider some 1/8" hardware cloth, formed as needed, attached to the upper edge and painted flat black? Serves both purposes.

Have you tried different mounting brackets? Ive been wanting to do this for a while so I’ve been watching many videos and most of them don’t have that gap. I subscribed so I can’t wait to see what you end up doing!

Dude... get the sport grille. LMC Truck has them in chrome. I did it and it really does look great, it curves down and forward and the truck looks like it's supposed to have been that way. It looks a hell of a lot better than any filler panel will.

I think Reo White hit the nail on the head fiberglass it then paint it to match your truck's body color. or go on ebay they sell the top fill in piece for those if I'am not mistaken. called upper cover or txt pad. good luck!

Try a second GEN aftermarket sport grill I noticed with the stock bumper it protrudes out Waymore and rubs on the stock bumper quite a bit

I second this a lot of ppl nowadays use a sport grill for these bumpers doesn’t have to be aftermarket but doesn’t matter as long as it’s the same as a sport grill but you will still have a gap what I wanna do is do a Ford style rubber top trim across that center and leave it as is

Maybe look for a third gen bumper top plastic cap, I've been seeing guys swap there 3rd gens with 4th gen bumpers and leave the top plastic cover on just a thought

What did you ever do with the front bumper? I'm positive im the only 2nd gen in the country with a 3rd gen swap, and custom grill to match the drop of a 3rd gen. Mykeb on cumminsforum if you want to see pics. My plastic is finally getting old now, and cracking..so will be doing a 4th gen swap in the next month or 2

Not anymore I did have have a lifted 4 door and my oldest son had a 2 door.

I'd say go with the first idea that came to mind that you liked that isn't to difficult to do and go from there with it. I've got a 97 Dodge 3500 12V and in the process of putting one of those 2012 bumpers on it and that thing won't line up right. Think I bought the wrong brackets off Ebay smh. Bought the 2 gen to 4th gen ones but the Heka brand and theres no adjustment on the flat part that bolts to the bumper. Probably gonna have to buy different brackets smh or find somebody with a Plasma Cutter to make them were they can be adjusted. What you think

@@ChadMyers73 that's very true. Thank you for the information about what to do to fix the problem with it not lining up the way its supposed to. I probably should have put a stock bumper back on the truck instead of trying to be all fancy. All that Chrome gets me every time 😂

I was wondering if anyone has tried taking the rubber cap off the top of the 2nd gen bumper, trimming it to fit the space between the grille and bumper, then securing it to the bumper with some tabs or braces attached to the bumper mounts.

That is called a contour gauge.

Ppl say just add the sport grill . That's not really the answer. First I already have a custom grill I like very much. Second it don't fix the fitment by the headlights.

I have saw some of those piece made that your talking about and they do look good. You could make to go all the way across like a cap per say then paint it to match.

Chad Myers73 true. Now I've seen some guys that have done the swap and not have the headlight gap issue. I dk if t was the brackets they used but it was clean and flush st the lights

Derek Miller when I do the video on fixing this issue(for me) you will see what I’m talking about on the headlights. The factory 2nd gen bumper is straight across the top so it will give it that same look there.

Perhaps the original bumper, it isn't a 2015 ram. It comes from still the best gen ram made.

I don’t know what to tell you. My buddy’s grill to bumper does not look like that. His grill actually comes down and touches the bumper right in the middle.
