Way better cam bolt design then the 3rd gen 4runners where you have to lift the steering rack up to get the rear cam bolts out
Great install video and live commentary. Enjoyed the cam tabs part especially

I have had my fair share of rusty projects. We live about an hour from the coast. I just did upper and lowers on a chevy 2500hd. Had to make a tool to get torsion bars out of the keys and split the lowers to remove torsion bar. Also was a marine tech for a few years. Lots of heat, cutting and drilling involved so I feel you.
Beautiful ride

Thanks for the video .... one question, in some others toyota the bolts have a thread at the end of the bolt, then a smooth part and then another bit of thread, what is that small part of the thread for?
Awesome video, thanks. Did you have any issues with your CV axles binding with that alignment? On my 4Runner I have an issue where at full droop my CVs bind if I have my alignment cams pulled into the frame too far. The only way for them to not bind is if I push the cams to the outside, but then my alignment is out of spec. I am using CVJ axles which are supposed to be OEM remanufactured. I also have Icon coilovers so I don’t think there is too much down travel. Thanks

I have not at this moment had any trouble with the CV's binding. Of course when I set this up it was just the starting point for the alignment. I figure if I start at max caster they just bring it back into spec. The caster will show red if they are using a newer digital machine and will show out of spec. I want you to know it took 4 alignment shops before I found one that understood what I was asking for. I am running extended travel front coils and have not had an issue yet.
TRD models should come with this stock

The factory tabs are week and bend then you can not hold alignment
I’m not a mechanic but great insight and lots to learn

I had my LCA’s rebuilt with SPC ball joints and bushings.
On the Lincoln electric did you have it on D wire feed around 6-7? I had mine on C wire deed 5-6 and it came out like crap. Thanks

Honestly, I can't remember, but the Lincoln welder is super finicky. I have also used a Hobart and it is much better. Are you using Fluxcore or gas and solid wire?
Sounds like a red shouldered hawk in the background, when you're putting the LCAs back on.

I honestly didn't notice. After going back it is quite possible. I learned to tune out the neighbors dogs. 😆

@MB TRAVEL AND ADVENTURE I could be wrong. But I noticed only because we have a couple red shouldered hawks that live nearby and frequently perch on some trees in our yard and some of the neighbors. The neighbors brought it to my attention because one tried to get their dog. Our dog is on the smaller side, so we keep an eye on them. Now, the hawk's call is easy for me to recognize 🙂

@MB TRAVEL AND ADVENTURE oh yeah, did you have to chop your body mounts with those tires and spacers? Did you have to re-gear? I have a 4th gen v6 and I'm considering my options for tires. I'm thinking of going with 33's. I need some new UCA's to get my caster back right after my modest bilstein lift. 33's might require me to move the setting up a notch, but I think I'll be looking at a body mount chop based on my reading so far.
@mbtravelandadventure
Жыл бұрын
Yes body mount chop was necessary. It is livable without regear with the 295's (33.4") If I move to 35s I will definitely re-gear. Keep in mind tire weight as well as the rotational weight makes a considerable difference. You can see weight and actual tire size. My go to is I believe tire-size.com
Any tips for mitigating squeaking when putting back together?

Just grease and torque well. Are you having a squeek on Icon coilovers? I fought a squeek for 2 months, thought it was uca's turned out to be wiper seal on the shock itself. Silicone Spray fixed it. Icon said they would warranty but I did not want to wait on them. If on the LCA you should not need grease other than balljoint.
How did you prevent all the splatter that normally comes with flux core?
@mbtravelandadventure
Жыл бұрын
If the welder is set correct it shouldn't be too bad. With that said I only cleaned up where I was welding. The spatter does not stick well to the existing paint.

@@mbtravelandadventure curious how you have yours set?
@mbtravelandadventure
Жыл бұрын
@@webcrawler3332 It honestly would depend on the welder. The one I am using is a Lincoln 110V machine with a very finicky wire speed knob. So giving you exacts probably will not help you. I would just play with whatever welder in particular that you have or have available to you. I did not use any but they also sell an anti-spatter type spray that will drastically reduce this from happenening. I would have ran hard wire, but the bottle I have is small and was empty from a previous Jeep bumper build. I wish I could have helped you further on this subject.
