4MT 2 6 4T 80151 is back and under test

After a lengthy overhaul Brighton built Standard Class 4 Tank engine 80151 is almost ready for service on the Bluebell Line.
Immaculately turned out in British Railways lined black livery it is seen here on test in the Sussex sunshine at the Bluebell Railway. A sound testament to the skills and perseverance of the Bluebell Railway workshop staff and volunteers. It is seen with the 'Chesham set' of Metropolitan Railway coaches, themselves a testament to the skills and workmanship of the Carriage and Wagon department based at Horsted Keynes on the Bluebell Railway.

Reminds me of the Hornby Dublo version I had as a kid.

This is engine of my childhood. Living in London, but spending the long, hot summers in Heathfield or Hailsham, going down to my Godmothers's on the Cuckoo Line, via Eridge. Always a 4MT, but it was steam and it was taking us somewhere. When you say 'the' 4MT, you mean 'one of the' 4MT's, surely? Haven't they got three of them? It's been a long while between loco out shops and I am particularly looking forward to 'Stowe' returning. The Brighton Atlantic is mouth wateringly close and the 2MT Tank is also quite near to completion. That's the one Bluebell need as an off season service train loco and the shunter - it'll be exactly right for them. The big engines are lovely and what people want to see and ride - 34059, 21C123, 92240 and 75027 - but I guess they have to take a bit of a back seat when the Bluebell desperately need economical engines that are just the right size. 80151 is on the large side of that as would be 75027, but I'd take a 4MT any day.

Lovely Post. Thank you Roger. Hopefully it will soon be in traffic, hauling Southern coaches to and from East Grinsted. Nick

Idyllic. Almost like SP would have been in the 50s. So good to see the Std.4 back in the landscape.
