4L60E Build Strategy for Stock to Mild Performance Applications

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

I walk through my general rebuild strategy for 4L60Es for stock or mild performance/medium duty applications with an emphasis on later model units...
The discussion covers a general overview of the different vintages of 4L60E, interchange rules as well as parts selection, key considerations and other tips and pointers for those either new to transmissions in general or to the 4L60E in particular or those just looking for ideas around how to approach a 4L60E rebuild.
Please keep in mind that there are a plethora of ways to skin this cat so don't think of what I present here as the only option or think that's the message I'm sending. On the contrary, it's one of many possible avenues of approach for you and your 4L60E project.

Another great video, Nick. Ya know, in nearly a hundred of these I've done now, I still haven't been inside of one of these late models with the internal range switch. Weird I guess, but the older ones keep me busy. Oh, and I use a lot of the blue bonded apply pistons from Seal Aftermarket, and they haven't let me down so far. Keep up the good work, my friend.

Thanks, Kevin! Yea, haven't heard anything negative about those blue pistons, they seem to be fine.

Do you consider a "BEAST" a decent enough replacement vs the Sonnax Smart Shell at around half the price?

Hi TheVillain, thank you for watching... I haven't use the BEAST sun shell in ages but never had any issues with them when I did. However there's concerns in some within the industry that the BEAST shells aren't balanced and place asymmetric stresses on the rear sun gear due to them not being balanced. Unfortunately, there's a few different variations of the BEAST shell so that chatter may have been applicable to any one of them (or all) but I've been using the Sonnax Shell for so long, I have no real recent experience with anything else, other than the standard GM heat treated shells, which go into my stock-ish builds.

@@nickstransmissions Thanks so much for the info, if I do end up replacing the shell I'll go ahead and do the sonnax for peace of mind.
