***** lol:) that's funny, you know what it is..16:9 is amazing forsure. But after seeing the 21:9, I almost feel like wow! 16:9 doesn't seem wide or cinematic anymore, its like standard. Is almost like how 1080p is the New norm. Can't even imagine when those 4k ultra wide panels start hitting the market, how amazing their going to look.

Very informative video...I'm in this very predicament. I am looking to upgrade my 27" 1440P (16:9) monitor and am looking at either getting a 32" 4K 16:9 or a 34" 1440P 21:9 monitor. My question is regarding scaling. On a 1440P monitor, I have no scaling going on. Now, of course text is going to be smaller on a 4K, even at 32", but how much smaller is it? Do you use scaling? TIA.

For the horizontal timeline thing, you actually get more of the timeline on the screen at a time with a 4k monitor than a 1440p ultra wide. 3840 > 3440. Depending on your UI scaling I guess.

I have a setup with a 42" AH-IPS with two 34" 21:9 monitors on either side. I use a KVMP (Keyboard, Video, Mouse, Printer) switch to alternate between my work PC and my gaming PC. For productivity stuff, I love 4k. Eve if it’s just browsing windows, or going huge with a mega excel spread sheet. For gaming, I really think I like Ultrawide. I have a 6700k Dual GeForce 1080SLI that can actually drive my Ultra 4k, but I’m noticing that I start to get motion sick if I sit less than 2ft from my 4k monitor. (Which I do for desktop stuff all day long). ALso, my neck does get a bit sore from looking up at the angle to take in the top 20% of the 4k screen. I visit a chiropractor about once a week because my neck is getting all jacked up from my multi-monitor setup if I stare off at the three-o'clock position for 2 hours because I’m multitasking in my right screen. For as rarely as I use the top 20% of the 4k screen for production stuff (I tend to keep it within my natural peripheral vision), I think that an UltraWide would be the ideal if your are looking at a comparison to a 42" 4k. Now... if you are thinking about a 29", 32" or 35" 4k, I suspect it’s a different argument. But, the pixel size starts to get rather tiny for desktop stuff at that point. 42" 4K is the sweet spot for size and imagery.

I'm loving my LG 1440 ultrawide panel, I was wondering whether 4k screens support running in a letterbox mode that doesn't squash the content so that games can run natively in 21:9 and have the benefit of more viewing angle etc? Correct me if I'm wrong, but a 1440 ultrawide is basically a 4k with the top and bottom cut off? I'm still going to keep my ultrawide because the vertical real estate actually really irritates me, getting at menu bars and closing / minimising windows become a bit of a chore. another advantage for me (but not for everyone) is that I find the ultrawides are much less impactful on the feel of the room, the height of 4k monitors in 16:9 in a big enough size that's going to make any sense at that resolution just looks a bit clumsy and demands attention from the whole room. Great video though, I will be interested to see whether you switch back to 21:9 when the features catch up with conventional panels.

if i wasnt worried too much about mixing resolutions for the eventual fix for nvidia surround to allow it to work monitors of simmilar res and differant aspect ratios i would have gotten only one rog PG278q and an ROG PG27aq (the 4k variant) instead, so i have jigh refreshrate 1440p for games like CSGO, gorgeous 21:9 for games like witcher 3 as well as video editing and productivity and 4k for photo editing and 4k 16:9 content (if i didnt already have the TV for 4k netflix and stuff)

are there any 21:9 (5120x2160) monitors on the market? 4k is all about pixel dencity imho. so combining the 21:9 ratio and/or curvature cuz there are curved 21:9 screens with the pixel density of a 4k monitor should be a gold zone for enthusiasts.

Ultrawides still have a low DPI issue. Even the 1440p 34 inch ones look like 24 inch 1080p monitors to me. Nay, what I do is use ultrawide resolutions on my 4k monitor. I usually play games at 3840x1440 or even 3840x1080. If you don't mind the black bars on the top and bottom (which you forget about when you start playing games) it's freakin awesome.

But for most people, maybe dual 1080p is a lot cheaper and still capable of quite a few jobs? For web browsing, just one window each monitor; for video editing, use one monitor solely for the timeline and another for everything else; for photo editing, place everything other than the photo on the second monitor; for gaming, monitor 1 for the game and monitor 2 for game guides XD Just my personal experience though... By the way, 4 1080p monitors seems to be cheaper than a 4k.

FIFA? PS4?? Why do you want higher resolution if u will still be playing on a 30FPS platform. Ps4 can't run games at a 4K resolution, it just re-scales it to ''''''4k''''''.

Ultrawide for everything is way better ... And the 3440x1440 to 4K it isn't such a big difference .... Gaming also on 21:9 is way better on every type of games Shooter , Racing games , and YEAH 3rd person and MMO games that we can see more world from up side . I was on 40 " 4K TV monitor with 23ms and going to LG 34UC98 was 10 times better . still I use 60 hz on the other hand :)

Mpamphs Kangourosaurous 60hz ain't bad, more is still better. though for some games its better to do 60hz, much less of a headache to deal with imo. especially Bethesda games.

I prefer 35" 21:9 2560x1080 because I'm used to working with the pixel density of 1920x1080 on a 27" screen and 2560x1080 on 35" gives me roughly the same density. It also gives me much better headroom for getting great FPS with awesome graphics settings in games. When comparing 2560x1080 (21:9) to 2560x1440 (+25%), 3440x1440 (+45%), 3840x2160 (+67%) and 4096x2160 (+69%) I don't think the extra pixels gives me anything I really need while the extra FPS I can get from 2560x1080 does.

Are there no 5k 21:9 monitors out there? For the same PPI as a 4k 16:9?

By 5k I mean't 21:9 5k not 16:9 5k, sorry. Yeah, I'll be waiting for another couple years for 4k gaming to mature and then see the selection of 5k 21:9 5040x2160 monitors.

Your three main uses, web browsing, video, and photo editing... obviously benefit more from a 4K 16:9 screen since you simply get more pixels, higher PPI so crisper images, and more screen real estate. My main uses for my computer are gaming, and watching movies.... so obviously my 21:9 3440x1440 @ 100hz benefits those things more due to cinema-equivalent 2.35:1 aspect looking amazing on it with no black bars, having a wider aspect ratio for games which is incredible, and better refresh rate than what is currently available on 4K screens. So clearly it depends entirely on what you're using the computer for as to what you should go for. I think you made a great choice based on your usage, but for me I will definitely stick to my ultra-wide :)
