Keep in mind that the Xbox One X is pushing 3K resolution all the PlayStation Pro is pushing full HD that's a huge difference

It's not. Texture quality and filtering, AA, and ancient occlusion are the same. Unless you have hawk eye, you can't tell the difference.

MetalGod 1990 ambient occlusion quality is higher on the X and yeah the X is rendering out almost 3 times as many pixels than the Pro.

That's actually half done to me for the developers to give an Unlocked Framerate mode without the ability for X owners to render the game at 1080p. I really wish there was more like a performance mode targeting 1080p at 60fps. Usually the X is able to run the games with this option at around 50 to 60fps constantly which is much better than what Pro can offer right now. Personally, when a game targeting 60fps gameplay goes lower than 50fps without FreeSync or G-Sync it start to feel off somehow.

I have a X and I watched this video on the Xbox KZread app in 4K and you can see a BIG difference. I have a 55” Sony x900e btw.

Great job on this vid, DF. Some people really don't understand how thoroughly you guys check the info on resolution and framerates. Glad to see that not everybody blindly sides with developers when they make a fuss over a little mistake.

Completed this twice on the One X and it was a very good looking and smooth experience. Fantastic game also my game of the year.

Underrated game better than the first part imho. One of the best AAA single player games of the last year with no dlcs&MTx bullshit and most of people passed it in its release date. Give it a try, it deserves more success!

I really digged this game but I was left wanting more ! More missions, more explorable zones, more weapons, more unlockables, more etc.... I need more EW 2 :(

Radius of bloom is probably internally expressed in pixels, hence, the higher the resolution, the smaller the pixels - the smaller the blur radius is physically (while still covering same pixel radius).

Going to buy it and play it this week on a 1080p monitor on my base ps4 slim.Big fan of the first one ,is it really worth it or is it worse than the previous game in general ?

I wonder how much of a performance boost the one X would get if resolution was dropped to 1600p or 1440p.

*All we want is 1080p / 60fps!*

Either way, if you have a Pro or Xbox One X, you're moving consoles to the right path. Their success lets the suits know there's a market for higher end performance. Hopefully they also get the message that a mobile phone CPU is a crock of shit in the long run.

After the Redout debacle, there is no way DF would release a video on a Bethesda title and say essentially the same thing... unless they were confident they were right. I think I believe DF on their initial analysis on Redout. I look forward to their re-analysis upload.

Dynamic resolutions and unlocked frame rates is going to make interesting benchmark videos down the road when we have even more powerful consoles with BC.

As always the same situation. Have both consoles? play multiplats on the better console. If you only have either or then just enjoy the games on said console

So if the base ps4 is 1080p and the pro is 1080p what is the actual advantage on the pro?just a question I'm not fanboying it's just a question.😕

MS really need some good exclusives that properly demonstrate the One X's power. It's clear now that the One X absolutely slaughters the Pro where multi-console titles are concerned, but when you consider Sony's own exclusives, which make smarter use of the Pro's more limited hardware, MS's advantage isn't so clear-cut. Then again, considering that there's such a massive gulf in power between the One v1 and the One X, it might be hard for MS to make games that really show off the latter's power while still remaining playable on the former.

Only because the game locks to 1800p on the One X and 1080p/~1200p on the Pro. If you could bring down the One X to the same resolution as the Pro, I'm guessing that at the very least it'd match the Pro, even if it probably wouldn't hit a consistent 60fps due to CPU limitations.

Ryan Davis yes, whilst pushing nearly three times the amount of pixels, just remember there is not one part of the Pro hardware that outdoes the X, if the pro tried to render the game at 1800p the framerate would probably be in the teens. If there was a 1080p mode on the X the framerate would be CPU bound and the X would perform better due to the slightly faster CPU.

Game difficulty was entirely designed for gamepad with aim assistance... You can see 'wheel' weapon interfaces which is clearly sign of it. PC port is too easy with mouse-keyboard controls. Also you lost tons of experience because of abscence of force feedback.

H Koizumi - I'd argue the console gamers asking for additional options kinda goes against your idea that we're all a bunch of idiots who want to be told how to play the game - an idea that I'm sure you aren't spouting just to make yourself feel superior to those "peasants" on console. In any event, offering a toggle between 1080p and 4K modes would not be that big a deal. Just like the option to toggle the 30fps cap on and off isn't a big deal, since it shows up in a fairly large amount of X/Pro-enhanced games and even sometimes on base X1 and PS4.

It saddens me to know that The Evil Within 3 we'll never see the light of day. Thank you Microsoft .l.

@@anthonyj810 That doesn't matter if the CPU is bottlenecking the system. In terms of framerate you need both a good GPU and CPU. GPU is very solid, the CPU is weak. And for 60fps you need both parts to be capable of that. Resolutions are almost entirely GPU dependent. Lowering the resolution to 1080p would put less stress on the GPU, but the CPU won't be affected much by it. The CPU has always been the bottleneck of the system, fast ram isn't going to compensate for that, nor is the GPU. It's not a "OR" kind of situation, it's a "AND" kind of situation. In terms of framerate a system is only going to perform as well as the weakest component of the CPU and GPU.

@@anthonyj810 Sorry for this overly long answer, but I want to give a clear explanation as to why it's not simply flipping the switch to a lower resolution and suddenly the game will run at 60 or more fps. It's much more complex than that. An example with explanation: A 60fps game like Forza and a 30fps game like Killing Floor 2. Why do I pick KF2 as an example because it's a perfect showcase how a game can be CPU intensive, just because that's what the style of the game demands. Ai, shadows, dynamic lighting, particle effects, ... all of those things are CPU intensive. Ai patterns for a racing game are simpler than ai of characters that have different abilities, movement patterns, ... Add on top of that the fact that KF2 has a lot more ai running around and there you already have a huge difference between the 2 games. Shadows show a similar cut back in Forza. The shadows are baked in. Meaning that they won't change at any time. KF2 has dynamic lighting with dynamic shadows. KF2 has a lot more particle effects going on than a game like Forza. Basically on my old PC with an I7 4770 (much stronger CPU that the CPU in the X) and a GTX 760 (weaker GPU than what's in the X) it could perfectly run the game at 60fps. The X can't. The reason? The CPU... KF2 is a CPU intensive game. The X even suffers from framedrops when things get really hectic. But that's the nature of the beast. A CPU heavy game on the X... yeah that's not going to end well. That old PC can't run at 4K 30fps because the graphics card in that system is simply too weak. But 1080p 60fps? No problem whatsoever. The weakness (bottleneck) of that system is its GPU hence why it wouldn't be able to reach high resolutions. Once you lower the resolution however to 1080p, the load gets lighter and the GPU is more than sufficient to reach 60+ fps. The CPU is as well. The X doesn't have that. It does have a stronger GPU hence why it can reach higher resolutions. The CPU is weaker hence why it can't run at higher framerates than my old PC. Fact is the CPU is barely an improvement over the base model. Will it help to get a more stable framerate? Sure, but usually that stable framerate for consoles is 30fps. The games the base console can run at 60fps will be a bit smoother on the X. But the reality is that the CPUs in both the base and the X console for most games is too weak to give stable 60fps. Sure there are cases where 60fps is possible but that's the exception rather than the rule. The CPU in the X and the base model are still the same outdated architecture. The difference between them isn't that huge. The GPU is, hence the huge leap in resolution and textures. But again framerate is dependent on both GPU and CPU. A 900p or 1080p at 60fps game on the base console will run at 1800p or 4K at 60fps on the X. A 900p game that can't reach stable 60fps on a base console won't reach stable 60fps on the X either. Even if the resolution stays the same because resolutions are dependent on the GPU not the CPU.

How much film grain are you using here. On my PS4 Pro and my monitor I couldn't get a good percentage. It definitely affects the image quality and even the perceived fps.

I actually played through this game at 1800p on my 4k TV using my PC. My GTX 1070 seemed to hold 30fps basically perfectly, but full 4k was out of the question. It definitely looked nice, and the image quality improves a lot when you turn off the godawful chromatic aberration and film grain.

Very curious to see this running on Scarlet at 1800p in ‘Unlocked’ framerate mode. I hope it can run at a solid 60fps.

Yeah, I'm holding back on a purchase of this game to see how it runs on Xbox Series X, as well. The PC port seems to be a bit hit and miss.

The unlocked frame rate option is for the ps4 pro pro and xbox x x. 4k 60fps.

Tucker yeah i understand, in the end the diferencs in graphics are little perceptible betwen Xone and Ps4 but they made like it was a hige deal upgrade for 3 years when MS delivered a solid line up and sony almost nothing good and now are changing the narrative to exclusives. Its fair i think, i did buy a Xone in 2013 because i never cared about those shits about resolution and graphics and i keep dont now even with the X! But i think this console was necessary to expose the sony fanboys and the midia hyping pixels and now they just dont anymore (why the change right after the X?), the xbox x made the greatest exposed of history!

I’d like to have the option to lower resolution to bump frames up

this game has the weirdest performances I had on my PC. No matter what resolution or what graphics setting I chose, it always below 60fps but above 30fps with unstable fps. great game but I don't think it's greatly optimized. Tango should just switch to UE4 next time for a more stable & mainstream engine. I feel only Id Software that could used Id Tech engine to its full potentials.

Poor dave was clarifying the PS4 Pro resolution over and over again saying he will contact the dev about the unusual 1080p output only when its supposed to be 1260p lmao.

How about the base model of the consoles? I you add them in,it will help remind a lot of people in the comments that they don't own the PS4 pro or the Xbox One X and they are still playing on the base models. Especially the Xbox fans in the comments screaming about the PS4 pro resolution,it might help remind them that they are still playing on 720P.

X unleashed every single AAA game played at 1080p on PS4 and a pathetic 720p/900p on the one.1080P is the minimum standard for this gen which Microsoft failed horribly with the Base model and even the one s that over 95% of Xbox users are still using. PS4 Pro and Xbox One X are both gimmicks and cash garbs that shouldn't even exist,both base models should had been powerful enough to last though the whole gen.

If you are buying a ps4 for the 1st time then the Pro is worth it as it doesn't cost much more than the base version and plays psvr much better. However if you are buying an xbox for the 1st time then it's a more difficult choice as the X costs twice as much as the base version.

These mid-generation refreshed consoles should have provided more than just a resolution upgrade. Some game devs do enable high framerate mode or high quality mode and that's how it should be. I traded my og base ps4 for a pro cus it plays some of the games I want to play at 60 fps at 1080p

Feeling sorry for whoever invested in a 4k tv thinking the Pro would take advantage of it...

What is the Resolution on ps4 and Xbox one standards?

Plays better on Xbox One X, huge advantage just like any multiplatform for now on.

Moogle Midgar unlocked frame rate is crap on both consoles and nobody should play using this mode, if that's what you're trying to argue. The only playable mode is the locked one and the X hold up nice and smooth with a huge advantage in graphics and resolution. So what's your point?

X unleashed Shitbox is 27fps for 500$ lololololololololololololol....

I finished this game on the Xbox One S just before the X came out and I upgraded. Kinda wish I’d waited and had an even better experience with this amazing game.

Maybe one day on digital foundry, agent of mayhem.

The problem with these patches for XBone X is that they push the hardware too much. Hit 60 fps first, then up the resolution and other graphical enhancements. Ditto for PS4 Pro.

The CPU in both isn't capable at any resolution, games on console that run at 60 are GPU bound, it's not a matter of turning down settings to get 60, these consoles are massively bottle necked by shit processors, and it will never happen.

J.D. the problem is that people like you dont understand that the CPU is shit and they will not get 1080/60 even with 1080Ti. Thats why they go for higher res and 30fps so the GPU is bottleneck.

thats not it at all its the game engine and port. it runs even worse on PC with the best hardware.

Xbox One X 1800p vs PS4 PRO 1080p PlayStation fanboys upgrade to mid-gen so they can play in 1080p

I play on Xbox One X and find the unlocked framerate to be much more responsive than when capped to 30fps.

Please do a video on the current performance of the PC version after patches as it still sucks and we need it to get some exposure so they make a fix! plz DF

Both versions look good,if a 300% zoom is needed to notice one over the other then I'd be happy to buy the game on either console.

3840 2160 with a name like that fanboy much...no they zoom in because its miniscule shit, in some cases even looks nothing more than artistic choice, heck most times the one x seemed more washed out and like it had less defining shadows (even with xbox crushed blacks ironically), although i know they did say seems to come down to which loads in the assets first...but still meh nothing serious to get one over the other, heck they even look great on the og consoles too, its not some next gen leap and almost every time on the one x its at the cost of shittier performance

TruthHurts I wouldn't say garbage but it's good in its own way possible.

Unlocked on Pro is enormously smoother, like regularly 15 to 20 frames higher - even during cinematics.

Excellent game. I played unlocked on pro and loved every minute. Fans of survival horror should check this one out.

Millions and millions and millions of more pixels on XboxOneX for 1 fps drop here and there is an amazing trade off over 1080p on a 4K display. Microsoft really did an excellent job with XboxOneX. Digital Foundry can't believe the PS4 Pro performs so poorly they had to contact the developer, but they don't do the same when a game is not patched correctly for the XboxoneX. Bottomline is the PS4 Pro was a HUGE MISTAKE.

Played this through twice on the X, damn good game and with the unlocked frame rate i only really noticed it to be a bit choppy was when it was raining during the one section of story mode. Awesome effects, audio and loved it

GAME OVER HD If you don't have a 4K TV there is no reason to upgrade. OG PS4 still has good graphics. Problem is when you have a 4K TV the 1080p signal gets upscaled 4x the size and so depending on the upscaling algorithm of the TV it can ruin the image. That's why PS4 Pro exist.

The Evil Within is pretty much a successor of Resident Evil and it's time for RE to rest after RE7, or RE can stick with FPS while TEW with TPS gameplay.

Dude. 4K is pretty much mainstream. Only thing that is not using 4K is public broadcasting. 4K is so ridiculously cheap it laughable. 4K TV's are $400 now. 4K is the standard. 1080p TV's are not even being built anymore. The 1080p TV's that are on shelves are from stockpiles that they are getting rid of.

kahnsealable are you trying to promote $400 tv's with garbage specs that bare no bells and whistles for a premium console? 🤔 Not only is 4k media irrelevant right now, but a 1080p television from 2007 outperforms a 2018 budget 4k television in every facet. And a 2012-13 Full HD television decimated the budget 4k offerings. Take a quick browse through Netflix, your local best buy and 4k enhanced games and tell me they anyway nearly equate to a percentage of what is offered in Full HD. Most broadcasters aren't even on 1080p yet in 2018 either. LOL. I've played Gears 4 and A.C. Origins on my buddies 2015 $3,000 4k HDR enabled television and was unimpressed with the visual fidelity, as well as the frame rate being sub par.

Then you have terrible eye site or you're just a fanboy. I game on PC and consoles. But i have been gaming on PC for 15 years and the move from 720p, to 1080p, to 1440p and 4K is NIGHT and DAY. So you can spare me the bullshit. a native 4K resolution is a native 4K resolution. and you do not need a $3000 4K TV. There are 4K HDR 10 TV's for $400-600. So again. Spare me son.

only in 1800 res department, where pro performance is better and for most that own 1080p tvs means their game is better on the pro over the one x...not to mention pro will likely get a patch fix for 4k owners, where cb for example can work great when utilized properly can appear close to 4k, something the one x hardware lacks cause pro has that extra tech inside it (the 16fp buffer or whatevr its called)...and honestly when they compared the 2 one x kept appearing washed out looking and less defined shadows and such, even doe they said that comes down to which loads 1st crap

Richard Hdjdjdjdnnxjd actually ur wrong, the id buffer allows for greater checkerboarding...while the dr fp16 allows double the performance depending if used...but they can work together allowing object reconstruction and such...im not that tech savvy and mistakenly said the 2 together, but all im saying is when done right 4k looks dope enough on the pro and allows for better performance, couple that in with the must have games, its just the better place to play still imo

I have a question if someone can answer, can you uncap the games fps on xbox one x and ps4 pro?

Is it weird to say that I think the PS4 Pro version actually looks better? It appears sharper to me for whatever reason. Is it maybe just the way KZread handles compression or something? The color also seems richer.
