Your videos are beautiful, but how do you not run into things since you’re traveling backwards?

Rowers usually will have a quick look every now and then. The more likely it is to hit an obstacle the more frequently a rower will have a look over his/her back. As I want to keep pace and rythm I'll do only a quick over the shoulder glance and won't turn around completely. So I'll have glance over the right shoulder and on the next stroke I'll have a look over the left shoulder. ...how often? probably every 10th stroke, every 20th stroke. In areas with traffic and swimmers you'd need to look even more frequently. As 10 strokes are reaching roughly 100 meters! There a some ways in doing it. Some rowers will have their look before or while placing the blades into the water. Others during the drive. I do look around after releasing the blades. But I've seen many different ways. However, you want to keep the distraction as short as possible. There also are some mirror "systems" but so far I haven`t seen any which are actually working well in all circumstances.
