★ 4K 🇨🇭 Samedan - Chur - Vereina - Samedan cab ride in a Ge 6/6 II [08.2020] Führerstandsmitfahrt
In this video, we're joining Paolo on a full shift as he drives around the RhB narrow gauge network in a locomotive that has since been scrapped. We'll be passing a few other interesting locomotives and trains that likewise have become scrap metal - so enjoy the nostalgia.
From Samedan, we take the Albula pass to Chur with freight and then on to Landquart. In Landquart Paolo takes a break before getting his train for the next leg of the journey. From Klosters Platz onwards, we will be travelling as a mixed passenger and freight train.

As I will probably never see these places in person (on my bucket list, though), countless thank yous to the whole crew for posting these marvelous videos. Between these and the "Swiss Railway Journeys" videos of 20-30 years ago (so interesting to see how sites have changed through the years), I can still dream...
I'm excited to watch the video👍👍👍💯💯😁😁

A huge "Thank You" Lori and Paolo for another amazing trip through the wonderfully scenic country of Switzerland. Sad to hear that such great pieces of equipment got scrapped.
Amazing exploration by riding a cab from Samedan to Chur to Vereina then back to Samedan daytime to nighttime. Beautiful scenery along the way. Tnx4sharing fully watched.
Last September i was in Switzerland with my brother and we used the RhB services for 5 days. Excellent stuff. It's nice how they are standardizing on modern EMU's with the buying of all those Capricorns and the slightly older fleet of Allegra's (and the push-pull consists based on the Allegra's). Those Allegra's are something else entirely. They are incredibly powerful for their diminutive size: Only locomotives and High-speed trains have more kW's, and when looking at kW per tonne almost nothing comes close. It's like fitting a Mini with a 5000 horsepower engine. But that's only logical given how the RhB (ab)uses them: You'll find them on the Bernina and on the Arosa lines, where they are used to not only haul themselves up the mountains, but also a large string of standard passangers cars behind them AND an additional load of freight cars when needed.
What a great ride. The scenery was great. The train was quiet and smooth. Some of the walking trails that could be seen would be quite a great day to spend some time on. These train videos let me go and see places that I will never see in reality. Thank you for posting this video. It means a lot to me.

Tout simplement splendide !!!!! Merci beaucoup !!!!!!!!
This is an excellent video and the uploader/producer should be proud of their work. It superbly illustrates a very busy narrow gauge railway that has maintained its track, locos, rolling stock and infrastructure to a very high standard! I would be proud to work on this railway and it’s obvious the staff are proud to work on the system! I was particularly impressed with the ‘snappy’ automatic signalling and the rapid acceleration and high speeds maintained over the the superbly good track. I also much appreciated the bilingual captions because…even though I understand and speak German…the dialect and rapidity of speech coming over the radio defeated me! I have subscribed and I look forward to many more videos from you. Incidentally, I have ridden on your trains a great deal in the past but that was back in the early 1970s! Thank you and congratulations on showing us how your railway operates so well! Rob In Bournemouth, England.

Thank you both for this valuable time capsule! Once Capricorn becomes dominant on some of these routes, will there still be room for diverse loco-hauled operations like this at each end of the working day? And will some of the Capricorn be kept on standby at key stations to allow last-minute strengthening of busy services?
@dellacapaolo
Жыл бұрын
There will still be some loco hauled trains such as Glacier Express and some freight train or the Albula IR. All other lines will be run by EMU's.
This is a good video and I really like how you added the locations to the chapters - this helped me identify a particular area when I saw something I liked. Thank you for taking the time to do that in such a long video! I do have a question though: What happened in Thusis (~1:25:00)? The train had to backup and move forward several times.
@lorirocks777
10 ай бұрын
It should have stated on screen what was happening. A few wagons were switched out. During the back and forth, the back of the train was going onto different tracks.
I notice the new Albula and all the tunnels that are being refurbished are a lot larger profile then the originals. Is the intent to enable standard gauge bulk carrier wagons to be carried south from Thusis to the Samedan freight yards (for future large project(s)?). Have seen video of standard gauge cement wagons on transfer wagons at Thusis but I was told that was the limit to be within running gauge. However there have been a lot of updates since then. The carriage of standard gauge wagons on wheel dollys is also seen on the ASm, BMC, and NSICM on the slopes of the Jura range.
@dellacapaolo
Жыл бұрын
No but in the far future the trains of the rhaetian railway could become a bit brighter and taller. And also transport slightly bigger goods.
Who controls the yard switch machines? Does a track worker call in your position and route? Or is it down from a scheduler for the trip?
Interesting how the Albula Tunnel is so straight you can see the light at the end for more than 3000 meters before you get to it. Edit: Why is there something from the Japanese Hakone Tozan Line in the train shed at Samedan?
@dellacapaolo
Жыл бұрын
Actually when you are in the middle of the tunnel you can see both exits. The Hakone Tozan railway in Japan has a friendship with the rhaetian railway.

Guess this is a new thing for KZread that started in March for new content only. I also see dropped frames for 4K on my other favorite KZread channels for content after March 1, 2023 (using a browser with my LG TV as a monitor). Fortunately, the internal LG TV KZread app plays new 4K content just fine.

It was a busy shift! Lori, have you considered to do a Q&A video? I have few questions and I bet they were or will be asked again: - How long is a single shift? Does it always take 8h/12h or it depends on a daily schedule and the goal is to have specific number of hours done in a month? - Are there any overnight trains in Switzerland both freight and/or passenger? - The train whistled two times over the course. That was really exceptional having in mind that Swiss trains do not whistle at all :) What was the reason to whistle? - During second part of the video there were a serious incline gradients. Do you know what is the highest incline/decline gradient for normal gauge and narrow gauge in Switzerland excluding rack and cable routes? - What is a role of a set of brooms placed vertically on both sides of the track before and after construction sites (e.g. 3:57:00)? - What voltage system is used for the routes in the video? I'm especially interested in double-gauge section before Chur. Does it the same for both gauges or have to be changed depending which track is used? Or maybe there a special normal-gauge locos capable to be powered by narrow gauge voltage?

Lots of questions! 😮😮 1. A single shift can be up to 12h long. Usually 8-11. What matters are the paid hours. So for monthly you have to achieve as many hours as your company puts in your contract.
