Doctor Octupus is the main villain. Aunt May dies in the end. Tombstone and Taskmaster are side villains. Silver sable is introduced but no boss battle with her. Bosses in order of story are Kingpin, Shocker, Mr. Negative, Electro + Vulture, Rhino + Scorpion, Mr Negative again, Doc Ock. Miles gets bitten towards the end of the game. Symbiotes are teased for the next game. Green Goblin is not in it but heavily mentioned. Peter does not die in this game. MJ and Miles are stealth mission characters.

So overall no downgrade AND they pushed the Pro resolution even higher than before while maintaining good performance? Great work Insomniac 👌🔥

That depends on whom Disney gave the rights to. I doubt they would never lock it to a console, it would have to be independent. Insomniac actually could be a good fit in this regard, they are excellent on all platforms. Not Activison, possibly ubi soft. Honestly the issue for star wars is that at this point in its life it is nothing more than a cash cow no matter the media.

The no of start wars games released would be decreased by their quality would improve vastly.

One topic brought up is the scripted lighting setups similar to inFamous. Insomniac actually stated that the reason why they used this is for story purposes. If there's a dramatic scene, it's much easier to get the emotion in it if you as a developer know that it's either raining or at night. It's hard to do the death of Uncle Ben if it's a bright sunny day with saturated colours!

People saying they downgraded the graphics. The final game looks better then how it did at E3.

No denying the e3 thing, yet the game that's out for the general public is just as good if not BETTER according to this DF analysis? Like the Witcher 3, the final release was and IS still pretty as hell even with the entire e3 downgrade. PLUS, to refer to it as a DOWNGRADE is straight up slanderous attempt at a smear campaign. Why not just refer to it as REWORKED or something? The sad thing is, It could've been easily avoided had James Stevenson talked about an art change to the suit as DF has now clearly shown (plastic vs cloth look). Instead their official twitter mentioned a puddle change! lol At this point, I'm starting to wonder if it was intentional, i.e. for extra publicity. EDIT: Forgot to mention, the 15:55 change was also something that DF highlights as having been changed.

He basically played politics with the puddlgate. He covered his ass. He clearly says things done are 'Less effective", "less specific", "replaced with GENERIC one" which are not compliments. That scene isn't as good as it was, visually. That's all I ever commented on because I don't have the game but I can see the difference in the two shots. I never made a statement on Spiderman the game.

More realistic cloth texture....I hated the shiny leather plastic look on the E3 demo....spiderman suits were never made out of leather they were always made from cloth, I like this change it makes the suit more on par and more accurately displays the real spiderman from the comic books.

The suit is not more vibrant, it's the whole game that's more saturated than the demo which had a more realistic look. Personally I liked the glossy suit better it had a satin look(not plastic lol) and the reflections really brings out the details in the model especially while moving. Both look great though.

Great to see Digitalfoundry squash this silly idea of a downgrade once and for all. For all you wanting your puddles though, various gameplay videos are showing that there are areas that have even more than puddles during certain weather than what was shown at E3.

If Microsoft want to compete with Sony in the console space, they need exclusives to give people reason to invest money into their console. Being the most powerful console in the market doesn't mean anything without great titles. If power means everything, Nintendo would have folded their console game business long ago because they are not known for power but rather for games.

I wouldnt say an upgrade... More like it got some more polish. 8:34 shows an obvious flaw that they couldn't get rid of entirely, slow loading of objects. Which just to the right of the screen you see two officers heads floating.

No, shut up! There are a few less puddles, and everything stopped looking like waxed plastic dipped in a clear coat for that extra shine. Completely ignore that the changes are so subtle its impossible to notice unless you stop, zoom in, and stare at it from half a dozen different angles for an extended period of time. In fact, ignore that they spent all that extra time on making the game generally more vibrant, and probably smoother to play due to the extra budget they didnt spend making dozens and dozens of new cube maps that most people will literally never notice. So just shut up, and ACCEPT ITS A DOWNGRADE BECAUSE THATS WHAT IM SAYING IT IS, DESPITE THE FACT I PROBABLY HAVENT EVEN SEEN THE DIFFERENCES MYSELF, JUST LOW QUALITY COMPRESSED IMAGE COMPARISONS.

This is the first graphics comparison video that I've ever seen, and man did I feel smart after it ended. The number of aspects at play here simply blow my mind. Hats off to the developers, and props to the creators of this video as well!

Fantastic video, thanks DF!! Only thing that I could see wrong was at 20:00, no shadows cast by the car's headlamps when Spidey walks in front of them!

The suit looks far better in the final version because you can see the web/mesh patterns on the suit, the eyes look far superior from the E3 Demo and the overall suit looks sharper.

LMAO no, the E3 had much better suit, which the REMASTERED version proved, they went back to the original design, with the fabric casting realistic reflections and not that stinky plastic PS4 retail version.

@@AdiiS The E3 presentation was the one with the "stinky plastic" suit lol. And although the Remastered version's suit is a bit more reflective, it's still relatively diffuse whereas the E3 suit had specular detail along every single edge which makes it look more like 3D-printed plastic than a fabric mask. Also, why are you replying to a 5-year old comment?

Excellent attention to detail...Insomniac and Digital Foundry. I didn't want to watch anything until after the game comes out, but it's hard to skip a DF analysis video. I've always had faith in Insomniac, and im glad to see they were truthful in the non downgrade claims. Really looking forward to playing!!

As someone that doesn't pay much attention to the minute graphical details and is mostly content so long as the gameplay is good and the game looks how it should, I gotta give props to you guys for going the extra mile and noticing so many things I'd probably overlook. I don't think people were hating it was merely a concern. I for one thought from the pictures the game was downgraded via shadows and textures.... I was somewhat correct the shadows and textures were changed but not downgraded.

funny thing is that the resolution to this puddlegate controversy is precisely why ray-tracing is important. its not just that raytracing looks better, its that artists don't have to rip their hair out cooking up convincing and up to date cube maps and tweaking scenes to best hide the issues of screen space solutions. same thing with lighting, an ignored part of puddlegate is that the shadows of things like pipes are also radically different, this is once again a difference that is artist driven rather than technology driven, under a raytracing model the lighting would just look natural without need for fiddling on a scene by scene basis. The cost of raytracing is of course performance, thankfully faster and faster hardware comes out every year. and that for the most part raytracing can run in parallel with both compute and shading and can act as a drop in replacement for rasterized solutions that have become highly sophisticated and taxing in their own right, leveraged properly raytracing can actually take pressure off of the shading and compute pipeline giving developers more freed up muscle to flex on other tasks. so once RT performance ramps up within the next few generations it should not represent a massive performance hit like it does currently. raytracing will continue to be experimented with in the PC space until I think coming to the masses with the PS6 / xbox5 era, in the interim (the ps5 and xbo4 era) we will see much more heavy use of voxel cone tracing and other similar techniques. even then raytracing tech will still be helping developers actually preview the tweaks they make in-game / in-engine between baking shadow maps and other time consuming calculations.

I definitely think some implementations of real time raytracing will be available in next gen games... Actually in a former DF video about SoTTR they talked about stochastic SSR on XOX for things like water reflections... Which relies on raytracing! So we're probably going to see real time raytracing on PS5, The Next Xbox and Nintendo TV Switch 2 Super Wii Pro or whatever they call their next home console hardware if it winds up being one that sits under the TV at all... Real time raytracing is already technically feasible on mobile hardware PS Vita was already using simple low resolution raycasting for SSR in _Killzone: Mercenary_ a mostly overlooked technical masterclass (yes, I know DF looked into the game). Anyway next gen real time raytracing at least one game... Count on it.

Always count on Digital Foundry for doing it right.

Its right after a camera cut as noted by DF, police models don't cut to the next scene right away.... most likely a bug that will get fix with a day one patch.

The Ambient Occlusion looks very good. It’s one of the things I really love about Ratchet and Clank. Im glad they did good with input latency also. Another thing Ratchet and Clank nailed considering 30 FPS. Good job Insomniac, it’s a good entry. Now please show us how innovative you are and take the story and gameplay to the next level for a sequel or prequel.

Looks absolutely amazing, Sony have really hit it out the park this gen, great time to be a gamer.

Downgrade according to people: Shiny good, not shiny bad.

The main thing I am noticing is the colour, specifically in the sky and city, of the E3 version seem more vibrant whereas Release looks more yellow. Also, there is more blur in the E3 one which gives an impression of higher quality textures. You can see this playing from 3:43 at slow speed.

Well they do have a limited edition Spider-man PS4 PRO and it comes with the game for free. It is also offered with the PS4 Slim but it's going to look and play better on the PS4 PRO and besides the hard drive is twice as big as the slim.

That interior building idea, is very cool. It looks so immersive.

I like how high the attention to detail is in this video about the high attention to detail in the game. Gotta love DF analysis. The game looks superb and super fun. The detail on street level puts previous open world urban games to shame and makes me think about how would the next GTA look, another franchise that loves attention to detail.
