2004 Spider-Man game designer plays the 2018 Spider-Man for the first time

Ойындар

The 2004 GameCube / Xbox / PlayStation game "Spider-Man 2" was notable for one major reason: its fantastic swinging system. The man who created that system was Jamie Fristrom -- so I asked him for his thoughts on the 2018 Insomniac title "Marvel's Spider-Man."

@@josephburnside2135 The PS4 spiderman holds your hand a lot more, the swinging doesn't have the same momentum and physics - it will make little corrections for you which makes it easier. It's still good, but it has a smaller learning curve. What made the PS2 spiderman swinging so great is that it's a challenge with a steep learning curve. Makes it more rewarding once you get the hang of it and can navigate around buildings. It has more freedom as well even though it is less cinematic. However, the PS4 game IS an improvement on PS2 spiderman in every aspect other than swinging (combat, story etc.)

I’m surprised he never commented on how the new system uses only R2. Spider-Man 2 let you choose which side to sling from by using L2 and R2 in tandem and I was disappointed marvel’s Spider-Man lost out on that. It was the one thing I felt it was missing but it was big for me

Jamie, even tho I don't play games as much as I used to, I want to thank you for the work you did from behind the scenes that truly enriched my younger years in a way only a developer could, putting in those countless hours programming and getting little to no love for it (besides the paycheck). Thank you for agreeing to do this video, since now so many of us have the opportunity to look at you (even if on a screen), who did the grinding so we could enjoy that immersive swinging, and say that we appreciate you more than we ever got to let you know back in the day.

And it has to work without any bug or glitch or else people will get mad at you lol I have so much respect for people creating those awesome games. THANK YOU! I remember a couple years ago i was on a trip of learning coding (i kinda powertrip on learning new stuff just because) and it was already complicated and hard to make a cube changing colour when touching it. No movement, funny story or anything. You touch it change colour. It took me a lot of time and it sucked. So crafting a complete world, mechanics, AI opponents, story, etc... mind blowing.

Devs have never told management when a game was ready. They were given a deadline, either loose or very tight and then they had to do it. If they failed to get it done in time they either were not paid (leading to the developers going through periods of time without earning actual money) or thedeveloper just went "fuck it" and released it unfinished. The industry has not changed AT ALL. What changed was the attitude toward finishing the game, because now they don't feel the pressure to have the game done and quality checked before release. They are fine with releasing an untested or unfinished game and then fixing it in post-release patched. They couldn't do this in the past (on consoles at least).

I was so entranced by the swinging because it really reminded me of my childhood playing Spider-Man 2 in PJs with friends. I just kept coming back to your video over and over again for weeks until I finally gave in and saved up for it. It's the very first time in a long time that I have wanted something so bad. The fact that you brought that to him and let him know that his DNA is in these new games, that’s going to live with him for the rest of his life. Knowing he left that legacy that will probably carry on long after he is gone. I think it is important that we, as humans, support each other that way. It gives those we are praising recognition that their work meant something and lets them know that it wasn’t for nothing. Giving them a sense of pride and happiness that what they did mattered to at least one person. Great stuff.
