★ 4K 🇨🇭Lenzburg - Seetal - Luzern cab ride, Switzerland [02.2020]
Welcome to the first Seetal Cab ride on youtube. This is a unique line in many ways. For starters, the line is constructed much like that of a tramway, with many intersections without barriers and reduced clearance for standard rolling stock due to the close proximity of the road. Usually tramways of this caliber feature light rolling stock. The Seetal railway however, was run with the normal heavy, standard gauge rolling stock of the SBB, including Ae 6/6 locomotives for freight, Rbe 4/4 motor coaches, De 4/4s & the specially produced De 6/6. These do not have the braking capacity of their lighter, narrow gauge counterparts, which poses a risk when crossing intersections without barriers.
During the past 30 years, many changes have been made to improve safety, including a massive reduction in crossings, installed barriers and the rerouting of the line at certain points. Beforehand there were over 500 crossings without barriers or warning lights. In 2009, the number could be reduced to 85, all fitted with a warning system, many with barriers.
Moving the entire track or fitting each crossing with barriers would have meant the end for this line due to the high costs involved, keeping in mind that it has never been profitable since it's conception in 1882. Closing the line in favour of a bus service has been debated in the past, notably in the 1950's and again in the early 90's due the safety concerns. Thankfully though, the line has been preserved and solutions were found.
Over the years, locomotives, wagons and trains have also been specially produced and adapted for use on the Seetal line. Notable examples are the De 6/6 Seetal crocodile locomotive, the reflective yellow strips used on many locomotives to warn cars and the more recently produced RABe 520, which we are riding in today, produced with a narrower body than standard SBB stock, to avoid the strafing of cars.
Freight traffic is also a very interesting part of the history of the railway. There still is occasional traffic from Hochdorf in the direction of Lucerne, where the clearance for standard trains is given. Unfortunately local freight traffic has been declining nationwide, especially in areas where only small amounts of freight were being transported. A search for "Seetal SBB" on google image search will produce some interesting photos of how things used to be.
And now, enjoy the ride on this historic railway!

There are so beautiful railway lines in Swiss. Wonderful :-)
I just love to watch these videos of train trips. It's like to be onboard. It's a wonderful way of making a trip without leaving the sofa, while quarantining. Thank you for posting and for the information about this historic railway. Greetings from Southern Brazil!
♥️lichen Dank 🙂
What a wonderful way to tour Switzerland. Thanks for taking us on the byways, not just the main lines.
Thank You for taking us along!! What a beautiful country you have!!
I love this line, because it runs on the side of the road or sometimes even on the road, like a tram. The units that run here are narrower than normal trains. It's a unique and interesting line! Thank you for sharing this cab ride.

It's similar to NJ Transit's RiverLINE that operates between the Camden Waterfront (near the Battleship New Jersey) and the Trenton Transportation Center (for Amtrak NEC trains, NJ Transit's Northeast Corridor and SEPTA's Trenton Line commuter trains). Most of the line runs on former Pennsylvania-Reading Seashore Line (PRSL) and Conrail trackage, however there is some street-running, especially in Burlington (near the Burlington-Bristol Bridge), with some of the line hugging the banks of the Delaware River between Roebling and Trenton. Biggest difference is that the RiverLINE uses diesel-electric equipment instead of overhead electrical traction.

12:48 Small town with a small roundabout...and a RAILWAY going through it! I've never seen this kind of an arrangement before, and it's one of three on this line; the others are at 26:04 and 55:34
Gorgeous high quality video with awesome landscapes, just as you'd expect from Switzerland
An unfamiliar and most interesting route. It's really good to have something new to see at this difficult time. Thanks for posting it.
Wonderful !! I didn't want the journey to end. Thank-you.
Thank you for refreshing my memory ,I have traveled on this line.
A lovely and unique video. Great to see the railway line and road so close together for most of the journey.
I could have watched this for hours! Great video!
It never fails to amaze me what a beautiful country it is. It amazing how the transportation system works so well. " Great Video "
I really enjoy the rides like this on the single track lines through the countryside and small towns. It allows for a chance to see things that you might not see on the mainlines. Thanks for a nice video!
Eine andere schöne Mitfahrt, wie immer! Ich bin gespannt auf die nächste Reise! Vielen Dank!
Excellent video, lovely to watch, thank you Mike UK
Great ride! Big thanks from New York.

This is what I love about Swiss railways. There are so many of these branch lines, which are designed with serving the community uppermost, and many of the wayside stations still have sidings and goods yards.
Eine wünderschöne Strecke Danke fürs Hochladen
thank you for sharing these films we completely enjoy them . we noticed there were no trash ie; plastic bags bier cans or newspapers ,even candy wrappers. the suisse people are very litter conscience which is a good thing.

Wahnsinn !

Wow pemandangan sangat good sekali👍👍👍👍😊

@@MethosFilms not sure, but it's ~50km/30mi and takes ~70min, so average speed including stops would be just under 40kph/25mph. On long, straight stretches it'll go max 80kph/50mph I'd say - but don't quote me on that.
Thank you !!!
