hey everyone, I agree that this game is beautiful, Kudo to Sony for having the faith and Guerrilla before delivering but I'm also really sick of the arguments for the sake of DF. It must be rather embarrassing or at least disappointing to put in a industry standard level of work and then know it being used to argue about which console has the better 'graphics' or some stupid crap. Honestly I don't think people realise what makes graphics, graphics. DF explain that in every one of their 'Technical Analysis' videos but people here have no idea what normal maps, anisotropic filtering, cube maps, inverse Kinematics or any other graphics or physics determining process that occurs. DF are pros and basically they've been given babies to feed the information from textbooks to. sorry for the rant and everything. this ain't 1989 but the wall of text is gone now.

Last time I was this early Scalebound was still in production.

When Crysis 1 came out I was rocking an $8,000 PC and it just died in the ass trying to play that game! I use to overclock meaning I was happy to buy 4 or 5 of Intels flagship CPU's until I had a rock solid overclocker, we would buy 2 or 3 at first and sell them on at a small loss to achieve our desired result. I would make hundreds of dollars in phone calls asking different suppliers if they had CPU's from specific runs that other overclockers had success with and that usually helped slim down some of the spending. GPU's the same, always friends hanging around wanting to score the new GPU a little cheaper after it didn't meet my scrutiny, GPU's were always just pot luck finding a real overclocker though and then trying to pair it with a mate. Anyhow all this yet when Crysis dropped even we couldn't play the game at a solid 60fps and there were 3 of us with stupendously expensive computers all built like this with each part scrutinized. I've been there and done it and had a fucking ball while I was at it, even buying multiple SSD's and running in RAID 0+1 config. Who cares, the past is the past and I am happy as fuck with my PS4 Pro and any PC Elitist Twat that says PS4 Pro isn't an amazing machine has serious inferiority issues. Mark my words, 4K is the Death Knell for PC!

I think a lot of the game studios that Sony owns weren't as well known prior to making a smash hit with Sony. Besides many of these games weren't possible without the funding of Sony. There are good things and bad things about exclusive games. The quality is mostly at the very top possible, but you have to buy into that eco system. But the other way around without such an eco system such games might never have been made. Teaming up and creating an ecosystem has been mostly beneficial for human society. Ofc there are the communist horror stories here and there but even the best capitalistic successes came about due to an ecosystem with certain rules.

I would say The Wither 3 on PC with Ultra settings running at 60 fps looks incredible and probably looks better than Horizon Zero Dawn on PS4 Pro. However, the fact that they can make this game look so good considering the PS4 specs is quite an achievement.

Optimising even for known hardware is easier. It's still fairly challenging, I wouldn't call it easy.

Really sad the amazing hdr implementation isn't mentioned, one of the best graphical features the game has to offer.

Great video as always, DF! I really wish you would have went over the game's HDR implementation though.

i don't have a lot of ps4 games , i'm a pc users mainly , but , this one will come to my ps4.

Even as someone who plays mainly PC, this is still easily one of the best looking games I've ever played.

After dealing with Witcher 3's ridiculously long load screens and sluggish menu, this will be a breath of fresh air.

These loading screens are not ridiculous. CDPR simply didn't care. My old HDD has pretty good loading times, but why the fuck I must watch these unskipable bard's tales? I get it, they're good, but not as much when you watch them for fucking 10th time, especially when you load into save you made a minute ago.

I got a ps5 and a sony x90h tv and this game looks absolutely mind blowing on it.

Lets be honest here. 2160p with checkerboard rendering on a $399 dollar console is mighty impressive indeed. I am a diehard PC gamer but even I know to achieve similar results and get a solid 30fps you will spend a tad bit more than that. Yeah yeah sure you can pull what that potato masher dude did and find parts from 5 years ago and cut the cost, but your average every day consumer isn't going to put that much effort into it. Buying todays parts at current prices to match what the Pro has to offer is going to run you at minimum 500 bucks unless you get lucky with sales. If I were to compare a similar open world game to this that I play on the PC right now is Ghost Recon Wildlands. My current machine I built in 2012 was around $900 dollars(cost went up when I upgraded to a 980 in 2014) and running that game at 1440p with high preset results in an average of around 50 fps with dips into the lower 40's at the worst of times. I fathom to think what kind of money would need to be plunked down to run that at 4k/60. If Wildlands has a 4k mode on the ps4 pro then I would be might interested to see the outcome of that.

The facial animation while characters are talking is my only complaint. It's horrible. Nothing else to say - the game is amazing on any other aspect

15:50 very interesting stuff here. It clearly shows the relationship to the platform. Developers NEVER rerender movies in higher resolutions for PC ports. You can remember some 2011-2013 PC ports where these 720p movies inserted in 1080p gameplay looked just terrible. PC is not a gaming platform it is crutches to run console games.

This game is a masterpiece of design (and great to play), thanks for revealing the details.

KEVIN McDaniel lol yeah man I do have a separate PC gaming setup and I had PS3 but didn't upgrade to PS4 PRO bcz of Scorpio . Waiting for Scorpio to get released . But major of my budget goes in upgrading my PC and I rarely BUY PS GAME CD

Nah i still love PC, and i think VR is still a gimmick, but this goes to show how a game developed for a system with fixed hardware can be optimized to look incredible, while PC games have to be made for a range of harware configurations. You got some stellar games on the PS4 no doubt. Horizon, Last of Us, Uncharted 4, makes me want one.

Bethesda develops multi platform games so how are they an example of PC development. Granted that statement does come from a person who called 30 fps "smooth" so perhaps I shouldn't expect much.

A good multiplayer shooter would put a dent in Xbox, Not a single player game with limited replay-ability. Most people will go back to their multi-player games very soon. Just saying, Playstation needs its own counter-strike type game that can hold a large population. Like halo 3 was for the 360.

PS4 is more story driven experience, with some multiplayer on a few of it's titles like Uncharted 4. The multiplayer is mainly on 3rd party developers to fill in the gap. Xbox One is purely multiplayer and less story. Look at the sequels for it's flagship titles like Gears 4 and Halo 5! Both games storyline suck real bad, but the multiplayer is great. Xbox One needs story driven game. As a matter of fact, according to Phil Spencer, we might get just that with non tradition game yet to be announce from E317. I want to see Xbox One Scorpio's answer to Horizon Zero Dawn.

Who's back here after hearing rumours of PC release? I honestly cant wait to play this at 1440p maxed out and a stable 60+fps

The game looks amazing in every aspect, but what surprised me the most were the map and the clouds...

MOnster Hunter World, Souls games, Nioh, DMC are way better gameplay wise, Western devs don't know how to make great gameplay and combat systems anymore cuz they are too busy trying to aim for "realism" and cinematic BS

Wow! I have never seeing such a nice technical analysis of a game and it's engine before. You got a subscriber and do more of this type of analysis. It's something different from just talking about a game that so many others do. Btw. I noticed as you said the environment loading as you walk threw it so i will like to ask if you play it at 1080p at PS4 Pro is this issue less obvious? Because i noticed some games get less blurry and their environment loads from bigger distance in the Ps4 Pro than normal PS4.

There was like a bundle where if you bought an AMD CPU like the 3900x or 3950x you would get a code for horizon for PC, and supposedly it would expire like the start of July, so dunno but hopefully it releases end of this month, the start of next one, I could be completely wrong.

Game looks absolutely stunning, can't wait to pick it up at some point. Great video John. (Also DF should just finally disable comments on their videos. The amount of petty, pathetic kiddies and man children constantly bitching about goddamn game consoles/PC is astounding. Don't give them a platform.)

If you don't like the comments, don't read them. On videos dealing with PC hardware tests there are no console kiddies around and many comments are actually informative, sometimes pointing out certain flaws in DT's benchmarking methodology which led to them redoing videos to be more representative of true performance.

Can't hit the like button enough for the video. This game is truly a masterpiece.

More than 15 years later and there isn't a single even a single emulator for the original Xbox. It's not gonna happen

DigitalNow I dont have a regular PS4 but yes you are correct.

I plan to get an Xbox one X for personal reasons, I have an Xbox one and have not owned a Sony Console since the PS2. I bought the PS4 Pro because I wanted this game that badly. All in all, it was totally worth it, and this game is a fucking Masterpiece. Common titles like Fallout 4, Skyrim, Injustice 2, Etc will be preserved on the Xbox one X. But exclusives are my main reason for having a Sony console.
