4K・ Heavy Snow in Ginzan Onsen, Japan

🕒 12/29 4:15pm🌡️ 0℃ 🚶‍♂️3km
I walked through the small town of Ginzan Onsen during a heavy snowfall, surrounded by a blanket of snow. I savored a hot drink from a vending machine and strolled past traditional wooden buildings, old inns, and ryokans with warm lantern light.
The peaceful atmosphere was heightened by the snow-covered hot springs and the muffled sounds of the town. The mountainous landscape was outlined in the distance, surrounded by snow and dancing snowflakes.
As I reached the end of my journey, I took one last look at the peaceful winter wonderland before catching the last bus back. The memories of my snow-covered walk through Ginzan Onsen, surrounded by hot springs, old inns and ryokans, would stay with me forever.

    Ginzan Onsen is actually a bit of an overrated tourist trap. I mean, it looks NICE and you can score high on instagram by posting anything from there but as an onsen offering some non-guest service it is actually not that pleasant (compared to other places) + it is obvious from many videos that transport in&out of onsen is quite poor (by japanese standards at least) for both public and private transportation. Also, it is a bit too crowded now and loses it's magic because of that. There is a bit less picturesque Shima Onsen that is almost empty, mostly due to even poorer transport options...but because of that it feels a bit less commercial.

  • @a61374

    @a61374

    @@DrAhzek That is because people are there for the scene and beauty to take photos especially foreign tourists, a lot are not really there for the onsen but some local tourists and few foreing tourists do as extra. You have to admit it looks beautiful especially during winter, just because there is a lot of tourist do not mean its a tourist trap compare to scenic areas in Kyoto. If they can get tourists then surely its great for the area, suburb and rural town areas like these need tourism. The same can be said for Shima Onsen, and it has also quite a lot of tourists as well.

  • @DrAhzek

    @DrAhzek

    Жыл бұрын

    @@a61374 But I already said that it is a nice view. It surely is saved from the typical concrete monsters that other onsens have around. That being said, unlike Kyoto which was a capital back in the day, Ginzan is a tourist trap. It was made to be one (check the definition). If I was around, I would most likely go there myself but going to the region JUST for that is a bit overkill…but everyone is free to go where they want, like they want. Some people go to see flashing lights of Tokyo, while others prefer Hagi, Beppu and the region of Aso. I guess in many cases if Japan doesn’t have what you like, it might as well not exist :D
