Hamilton Zoo
The first stage in the creation of a world-class wildlife destination in Hamilton has been hailed as “a leap forward”.
Work has been completed on a new entrance at Hamilton Zoo to replace the former 50-year-old building and includes a café and retail space. It’s all part of a wider scheme to combine the zoo and the Waiwhakareke Natural Heritage Park over the road.
The ambitious revamp project will eventually see the zoo and heritage park linked, plus a playground and, at some stage, accommodation.
“I could go anywhere in the world now and this meets any other zoo out there, this is world-class,” Fleming said during the official opening on Wednesday afternoon.
