[4K] Grass Valley - California USA - Walking Tour

Grass Valley is a city in Nevada County, California, United States. Situated at roughly 2,500 feet (760 m) in elevation in the western foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountain range, this northern Gold Country city is 57 miles (92 km) by car from Sacramento, 64 miles (103 km) from Sacramento International Airport, 88 miles (142 km) west of Reno, and 143 miles (230 km) northeast of San Francisco. As of the 2010 United States Census, its population was 12,860.
Grass Valley, which was originally known as Boston Ravine and later named Centerville, dates from the California Gold Rush, as does nearby Nevada City. Gold was discovered at Gold Hill in October 1850 and population grew around the mine. When a post office was established in 1851, it was renamed Grass Valley the next year for unknown reasons. The town incorporated in 1860.

The Mill street scene at the first of the video is now a brick stamped promenade with trees and planters and outside dining under colorful umbrellas. Much more foot traffic friendly. Also the Holbrook Hotel has been completely remodeled, as well as The National Hotel in Nevada city, our ‘sister town’ over the hill a couple of miles. Well worth a tour.

Love Grass Valley. Once or twice we practically screamed “Look right!”, as you do have a bias for panning left!

As someone who has been there, it is basically an old mining town and it has a lot of gold mining history. I recommend going to that big orange building at 2:37 it is a bakery with awesome stuff and good food.

How hard is it to find parking close by the downtown area in GV on weekends? Thinking about heading out there with my wife and toddler to hang out for the day, looks like a great relaxing place!

Mill Street used to be very convenient for drivers to park in front of the business they need now the drivers have no parking nearby. @@TravelingwithAndrew
